To me it’s the iconic moments which make a Grand Final memorable. Ones that come to mind.

1970 Carltons comeback and Jesalenko you beauty the mark.

1977 Grand Final draw. The first Grand Final to be televised live in Melbourne finished with Twiggy Dunnes huge pack mark and goal at the 32 minute mark to draw the game.

1979 Wayne Harmes tap in from the boundary.

1984 Essendon last quarter comeback and Leon Bakers blind turn and goal to put Essendon in front.

1989 Mark Yeates hit on Dermot, Dermot spitting blood then moments later mark and goal.

1993 Michael Longs run and goal with Silvagni claiming touched.

2005 Leo Barry you star. Match saving mark.

2008 Stuart Dews heroics in the third to break open the game. Two goals. Two assists in less than five minutes.

2010 Grand Final draw. Brendan Goddards Mark and the Stephen Milne bounce.

2018 Dom Sheed match winning goal.

Good list.

I think Matty Scarlett's toe-poke in the 2009 GF, leading to the game-breaking Chapman goal, also qualifies as an "iconic" moment. A great sequence of play to decide a terrific match.

Peter Hudson's kick into the man on the mark in '71 while lining up for what would have been a record-breaking 151st goal of the season is worth a mention, too - as is the fact he played most of the game concussed following a Cowboy Neale bump. They were different times.

1958 = Melbourne vs Collingwood - Collingwood protects the 4-peat with a huge upset.

1966 = Collingwood vs St Kilda - St Kilda's first flag, courtesy of a late Barry Breen point.

1967 = Richmond vs Geelong - One of the most underrated GFs. Richmond starts a new dynasty under Tom Hafey.

1970 = Carlton vs Collingwood - Carlton's huge comeback. Jesaulenko takes the "mark of the century".

1972 = Carlton vs Richmond - Highest scoring Grand Final.

1975 = Hawthorn vs North Melbourne - North's first flag.

1977 = North Melbourne vs Collingwood - Draw.

1979 = Carlton vs Collingwood - Wayne Harmes boundary line moment. It was out! ;)

1984 = Essendon vs Hawthorn - Essendon ends their 16-year drought with a memorable final quarter performance.

1989 = Hawthorn vs Geelong - Arguably the greatest GF ever. Ablett kicks 9.

2002 = Collingwood vs Brisbane - An old-school GF in the wet. Lions prevail in a tough one.

2004 = Port Adelaide vs Brisbane - Port's first AFL flag. Brisbane's great run comes to an end.

2005 = Sydney vs West Coast - Leo Barry's game saving mark. The Swans end the longest premiership drought.

2006 = Sydney vs West Coast - "Who would have thought the sequel would just be as good as the original".

2007 = Geelong vs Port Adelaide - Biggest winning GF margin as Geelong breaks a 44-year drought.

2008 = Geelong vs Hawthorn - One of the great GF upsets which solidifies the rivalry between the two clubs.

2009 = St Kilda vs Geelong - An evenly contested game, with Geelong coming home late.

2010 = Collingwood vs St Kilda - Final GF draw.

2012 = Hawthorn vs Sydney - A match with several lead changes, before the Swans strike late.

2016 = Sydney vs Western Bulldogs - Dogs end their 62-year drought to cap off a remarkable final series.

2017 = Adelaide vs Richmond - The Tigers end their 37-year drought.

2018 = West Coast vs Collingwood - Sheed's late winner. Biggest GF comeback since 1984.

I love 1990, but I don't think it's famous for anyone other than Collingwood supporters.

1991 West Coast vs Hawthorn - the first time an interstate side in a grand final, first and only match at Waverley and Angry Anderson and the Batmobile. Last premiership win of Hawthorn’s golden era. Bound for glory!

2011 Collingwood vs Geelong - two best teams of 2011 going head to head in wet weather. Remembered for all the wrong reasons thanks to Meatloaf’s infamous pre match entertainment. Channel 10’s last AFL match televised.

2013-20

Best contest: 2018
Best beatdown: 2014

The rest weren't very memorable imo. Some romance here and there, but as football for neutrals 2018 & 2014 is all you need from that era.

1967 was as good as any. 1972 saw 50 goals kicked. 1970, 1989, 2004, 2012 the other standouts from the TV era for me. Some games were tight and intense but otherwise not that memorable; many others contained one or more famous moments.

1967 deserves a mention as mentioned above, cracker of a game, close all day, lead changes through the last quarter, simply a great game.

Someone mentioned Grand Final moments, how about 1973 when Laurie Fowler runs through John Nichols - "Nichols is Down, Nichols is Down". He sure was, then Balme broke Southby's jaw (he stayed on the ground until 3/4 time) and whacked another defender (Cattogio?) - one rough game that (plus all of the events I just described are in the first quarter) although someone else mentioned 1971 which was certainly a rugged game too.

1972 Grand Final, Richmond scores a record Grand Final score, except for the fact Carlton scores even more. What was it, 50 goals? Watch that game one day, it is ridiculous, just goal after goal, 77 scoring shots.

The bloodbath in the 1940s is famous.

Bob Pratt missing a Grand Final because he got hit by a truck (driven by a South Melbourne supporter) and South lost.

Plenty of legendary Grand Finals, plus a few duds. I was at the draw in 1977 and it was pretty stunning.

Why no 05-06?

Also to the OP those should definitely be there. And 2018 of course.

1990 always seams to be over looked though.

Must say 2021 grand final will be more famous then 2020 out of the covid flags.

never liked 2020 was a horrible gf played on a crap ground that is the Gabba. Perth is way better.

Apart from 1990 and 2010 (2 both draw and replay more so the replay) my other top 5 favourite GFs are:

1989 marvelled at both teams possibly the greatest gf ever played and
2016 a feel good gf for the dogs

2021 has a feel good feeling about it too be even better if Melbourne win it.

To be honest good gfs have been few and far apart too they have been non events the bulk of them.

I did like the duels sydney and west coast 2005 and 2006. I liked the Leo Barry marking moment.

Did not rate 2007,09,11 geelongs gfs boring as in 2011 collingwood should have won.

And hawks 2013-2015 more boring gfs

2021 is the one im looking forward too.
