Garry Ablett said he wants to leave Gold Coast and is asking to leave, kolo just this week said he wants to stay at Geelong and signed a contract.

How is this in any shape or form hypocritical? One had stated he wants to leave, the other had said this week he wants to remain at Geelong. Very unusual hypocritical reasoning. Completely oppositive situations.

You do realise it is garry wanting to walk out of the suns? Geelong isn't doing anything arrogant, he is knocking on our door.

1. Can you please show me where Ablett has said this year that he wants to leave....
2. Kolo is now contracted , fair enough. So by my reasoning he's off limits.
3. Ablett is also contracted. By my reasoning it follows that he's off-limits.....
4. If Geelong is interested (and I have no idea if they are) but if they are interested in looking at bringing Ablett back to Geelong, then your contracted players are fair game too.
5. It doesn't matter "a hiil of beans" if one wants to stay or one wants to go, they're both contracted.
6. And if he's "knocking on your door" and Geelong want him, then Geelong will have to meet GC Suns terms, whatever they may be.

I, for one, don't particularly care one way or the other, if he stays or he goes, as long as it's on Gold Coast Suns terms and not Geelongs, Abletts , his wifes, his agents, the AFL's , the Governments......get my drift
If he didn't want to be here, then he shouldn't have signed a heavily front-ended 3yr contract. But with that a**hole Pickering as an agent, you'd expect no different......

He's contracted for 1 more year, so he gets traded on our terms, or he plays 2018 with us, he retires, or he gets de-listed and goes in the PSD. (which no-one wants)

I'd prefer for him to be traded.......his talent is immeasurable and people need to witness that for at least one more year (if he can get his body right)

I have read your Ablett thread over at "Total Footy" and I'm not buying what you are selling us.
There are a heap of your fans frothing at the thought of GAJ.
So pay up and pay up big time.
We will take an above average inside mid and you can pay for him out of your cap.

You and i are not going agree so i am not going to discuss it with you (no offence just not a good use of either of our time).

Couldn't read the full article Due to subscription required but it seems like the geelong community really want gaz and will push the board to get a deal done.

Yeah the whole we don't care rubbish that has occasionally been expressed on this thread was so insulting to our intelligence.

Pay up Geelong and pay up big time
We aren't like the federal govt that subsidises the place so that they can stay on the map, come to Papa Cochrane and pay up.

You just made a lot of waffling illogical posts that you could have made in one sentence instead of points.

Yes he requested a trade at the end of last year to Geelong, he is knocking on our door, we didn't knock on his. It's like your girlfriend calling up a guy every night and you get angry at the guy and not your girlfriend, you should take these issues out on Garry not Geelong.

Kolo signed a contract last week, if he didn't want to stay why would he sign a contract? That is the complete opposite to Garry who said he wants to leave GC.

Surely I don't need to explain how a player who wants to leave and a player who wants to stay are not identical situations? I will leave that for you.

All your problems and anger over this should be at Ablett, not Geelong who received the call.

...he is knocking on our door
...opposite to Garry who said he wants to leave GC.
...a player who wants to leave
A bit of waffling there from you pal. Maybe you could have said that in one sentence and pissed off?
...we didn't knock on his [door]
Are you sure?

If he wants to go, and we get the trade on OUR terms, then he goes. I don't have a problem with that. And I'm not angry, not one little bit am I angry.
And believe it or not, I have no problem with the Geelong Football Club.
Anyway I don't need to say anymore as the 3 posts after yours have said it all....

They're simply pointing out that a player being contracted is irrelevant in either case. Geelong supporters who say Jake Kolodjashnij won't be traded due to being contracted makes about as much sense as Gold Coast supporters who say Gary Ablett won't be traded due to being contracted. So long as both players are open to being traded, it's all good. A contract does not preclude any player from being traded or used as a bargaining chip, though. It's as simple as that.

You only need to look at Dean Gore. The bloke was freshly contracted to Geelong when Geelong used him as steak knives to acquire Patrick Dangerfield.

A contract is only relevant to a club insofar as a club is open to taking it on when a player is traded to them, ie will Geelong be happy paying out the rest of Gary Ablett's contract for 2018 and will Gold Coast be happy paying out X Player's contract (Jake Kolodjashnij?) as it stands? That's really it.

Dean gore was a VFL player, we all know how that becomes a different story entirely. Dispensable.

Never said a contract means you can't be traded, definitely not.

Was pointing out how strange saying a player who wants to stay and a player who wants to leave are in similar situations, they aren't similar predicaments. Completely opposite mind sets. Only a signature on a piece of paper is similar, every discussion and talk is going to be extremely opposite at the table.

I can't actually recall a player who the club required and recently contracted that was best 22 and wanting to remain at a club who got traded out. It does happen but it is extremely rare and unusual circumstances; example croad for pick no 1, . Clubs just don't do it unless they want to leave or they are dispensable such as age or other issues or they see a massive upside and steal to it. Cannot recall it at all happening down at Geelong in a very long time to say the least.

Not sure what you guys think is realistic value for him, given his age and health?

I understand it's emotional for Gold Coast that he wants to leave, but like I said he came knocking on our door, you guys should focus your frustration at gaz, he has done this to the club, not Geelong. All the posts about Geelong in here are irrational

Who are the elites? Your confusing me as much as the poster who said I am mad about Ablett wanting to come home to Geelong.

If you look at my posts on the thread on the Geelong board I have made occasionally about it, and I know you do as you have been quite emotional on this topic so far, I have said I'm not that keen to get him back, don't think his body will hold up that well. Will be nice to have at a reasonable fair price, but anything more and it's just too risky with all factored. Devon smith and hopper are the big fish.

That is so cringe worthy that I would have assumed the Geelong Addy were behind it

Luke Darcy on MMM this morning "The Cats are up to their eyeballs trying to do this (deal). They're playing the game, but behind the scenes everything that can be done to make this happen is currently being done."

Next you'll tell us that Boak knocked on your day a few years ago as well. Another contracted player that you were 'seducing' and got caught out.
Pay up or pi55 off.

Surely Abletts family situation is so dire any Melbourne Club will serve his purpose of getting back home to help out.
What a guy, he is so selfless.

It's a well documented fact confirmed by abletts management that he seeked a trade home to Geelong last year requesting to leave. It is a fact he asked to leave and come home to Geelong. He knocked on our door, we didn't knock on his. Take out your frustration at Ablett and not Geelong for the ordeal.

I'm interested to know what you consider fair deal?

The Geelong consensus is a 3rd round pick.

He's still in the top 10 players & OUR best midfielder.
Your 3rd round pick would be in the 40's at best.
Yeah, nah.
I can only see a deal being done with another club involved. Adelaide / Daniel Menzel and Charlie Cameron etc.

A third pick might satisfy another club but for gold coast it doesn't.

Disregarding the disappointing fact ablett is our best midfielder and in our top 3 players.

The sun's will go into the draft with 6 draft picks prior to Geelong’s 3Rd selection. Here is the link.
http://m.goldcoastfc.com.au/news/2017-07-11/indicative-draft-order-july-edition
It's a simple supply and demand logic.
Gold Coast won't need a late 3Rd Rd pick
So the only pick of relevance to us is the early 2nd rounder (Carltons pick). And again the last thing GC need at this point I expect will be more draft picks (unless they're top 10 picks again). So logic says gold coast won't trade ablett to Geelong unless they can get a required player in the deal or use a pick from Geelong to secure another player.

And this is all disregarding the financial issues that come with this. Who knows how it will affect a deal.

So please bare this in mind when you see us GC supporters constantly throw up contracted players at Geelong as it is the most likely way a deal will get done.
