Fastest AFL Player?

I have read that Ruslings quickest 100m recorded was 10.6. Not bad for a bloke that is 6"3'.

Not sure of his 20m sprints though...

Anyone know if they are doing the sprint again these final series?

i think pearce is the fastest in the league over 20m, with nathan krakouer JUST behind him

shaun burgoyne is faster than the above two over a longer distance, 60-100m i think

no wonder port are in a prelim then... just might have the 3 quickest in the comp!!! open your eyes... there are other teams out there!! D Wojak for mine, a couple of his runs thru the centre this year have been STUPID Quick

what people have to realise about the grand final sprint (at least last year's) is that it is handicapped.

edit: and i wouldn't know who is THE fastest from the other teams. i know who has pace, but am not necessarily sure who is dead-set quickest from other teams

Davey at chasing people down, wojac taking off though and breaking the lines, he is one of my favourite players too watch cos of this ability, he tore the kangas apart last weekend. Judd and Pearce are both very quick too

Forwards, Rusling is quick, and so is M.Williams

You'll be suprised, Peter Burgoyne actually did some 20m sprints this preseason apparently quicker then them 2, despite having his hammy problems last year....

Clint Benjamin from the Blues will make ever player mentioned on this thread look like they are going backwards when he hits the scene. Sub- 10.5 sec over 100m but apparently 400m and 800m are his specialties.
Yes he can run, and others can jump and do all sorts of wonderful things...

But can they play football?

That whole draft camp bugs me, so many champions wouldnt get recruited if they went on that alone.

well, going by the Draft camp results, he's right.

And yes, Wojinski looks lightning quick when he decides to turn it on

Which is why they don't - If you're good enough and the right size you will be drafted

I don't care about testing and camp results.

On the football field the fastest player sprinting in a straight line with the ball that I have seen with my own eyes is Brett Deledio.

Seen him come out of nowhere on the TV screen to accept a handball with one hand and the ball behind him as he's running, then bursting through a pack at full pace he is already at the 50m line kicking for goal...

Also Wojinski is close to one of the fastest I have seen with the ball.

Davey and the likes are super fast but they don't always run in a straight line, they use little footsteps whic h make them look a little faster than reality too, Deledio is taller so would appear slower (and is still fast) so with the ball is as fast as anybody IMO.

And don't even mention guys like Clinton Benjamin... look at Oakley-Nicholls, he is meant to be faster than Deledio but on match day - with the ball and low on confidence - he doesn't look anywhere near as fast.

Plus this thread is all about naming your team's best and fastest player :p

Leg speed counts for little unless a player has the ability to use it to his advantage.

Those that do (off the top of my head):
The davey's
Pearce
Rusling
Wojcinski (sp)
Ablett
C. Brown
Buddy
Judd (when fit)

Deledio doesn't exploit his speed as much as he could. (yet)

There are also some quality defenders who use their leg speed to great advantage by making the contest when they look out of it.

Back in his Hawk days, Chick was super fast and used it well to apply great forward line pressure, he probably did at the Eagles also but I didn't take any notice.

I know, but so many duds get picked cause they can jump or run

I know it sucks...I see so many good junior footballers getting shunted by TAC teams because they're too small or too whatever yet some people that actually make the squad can barely kick over a jam jar but because they're 6 ft whatever and can run like the wind they make it onto a TAC list. It happens all the time the TAC clubs figure that they can teach these guys the basic skills etc etc and they'll eventually become a great prospect because of their athletic traits.

I reckon Deledio is the fastest in traffic I have seen this year

My favourite moment with Deledio this year was against Essendon in the dreamtime game he got the ball in the middle took one look at Camporelli and took off like the wind, Camporelli just stood there didnt even bother trying to chase.

He would appear slower yes but he's got a much longer stride length than a Davey or Pearce due to his superior height

Judd, his pace over 20m is intense plus he's 189cm which enables him to have long strides which makes him travel further. :thumbsu:

Theirs one that comes to mind here...

Nathan Batsanis, Port got him on their rookie list, he got a lousy 38 possessions in the Grand Final, best and fairest in the Under 18s (ahead of Gray who we also picked at pick 55)

I hope he gets elevated, I remember last time I was in Melb someone called on SEN asking what happened to him, naturally they had no idea...

but this kid can play football! I could picture someone like Roger James not getting picked in this day and age...

And theirs been countless others....

For the smalls, Foley is lightning he should get a mention, both daveys

medium size - judd and deledio are very, peter Burgoyne..

For talls the ones i have noticed are rusling and buddy, although Spiders little Brother i have noticed is deceptivly quick.
