Got a feeling we might have to offer Darcy a longer contract then usual for a draftee. Sydney would throw the kitchen sink at him... They cant have got over gifting us Hird.. :p

I don't think we'll have to much trouble, he lives down the road from Windy Hill

Almost exactly the same as the Gibbs case, instead its West Coast getting screwed out of picking up Mitch's brothers

This is why ive always said that the rule should be when the son is born (example if born this year its 100 games) because you give him the idea for most of his life that his career is at the club his father was tied to and then the year of or before he is eligble to be drafted you change the sydtem. No other system in the world would do such a thing. That way at the last minute you cant say we've changed it to 150 games, then 200 and so on.

I dont think it will be a hard choice between next door or the next state, he'll be a don.

its pretty obvious why he is guaranteeing it, with Hawkins being such a talent and would have gone in the top 3

And?

The F/S rule is to reward the player and the club by keeping their footy club in the family. Why should the AFL punish a club for trying to do this? If they change it now it undermines all the 3rd rounders previously used on F/S picks. Just like with the PP rule. This AFL administration just cannot help themselves. They are addicted to rule changes, both in the game and in other areas.

I think what there trying to say is that it could be changed to the bidding system and for me i just dont agree with that system for this particular reason,
what if a side that finished first bid their second round pick (n.32) against the side the son is eligble for that finished last , theyd have to match it with their second round pick(17), for me id like to see it stay the same with maybe a change to eligbility on when the son was born;

or make the sides nominate these kids when their say 15 like the NSW scholarship sceme. But for me the bidding system is flawed for the reason i outlined at the begining of this thread. Its the only system in any type of draft we have and i think the AFL should keep it and when it comes to hawkins didnt his father make geelongs team of the century, if so to me that's enough eligibilty

IMO either get rid of it or leave it as it is.

No system is going to be "fair" for everyone.

I doubt they'll change the rules for the 2007 draft anyway...

Oh that's rich.

Matthew Lloyd's father John played 29 games for Carlton between 1965-'67 and was eligible for Carlton under the F/S rules around that time.

From memory the AFL changed the F/S rule just prior, 93 or 94 perhaps, to him being drafted in 1995.

Didn't hear any complaints then.
