Fave Line from a Song

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan"

Ballad of a Thin Man - Bob Dylan

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?

This is the first line of Visions of Johana. It is quiet an extraordinary song especialy when heard in the accoustic live version which Bob gave it in the late 60's. Every new line in the song is thought provoking.

'The darkest hour is just before dawn'

[Dedicated To the One I Love, Mamas and Papas]

'Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be'

[All You Need Is Love, Beatles]

I was delayed, I was way-laid
An emergency stop
I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
And the pain was enough to make
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect
And plan a mass murder
Who said lied I’d to her?

Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before - The Smiths

We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

Tonight, Tonight - The Smashing Pumpkins

Oasis - Live Forever:

Maybe I will never be,
All the things that I want to be,
But now is not the time to cry,
Now's the time to find out why!
I think you're the same as me,
We see things they'll never see,
You and I are gonna Live Forever

Elbow - Powder Blue:

Bring that minute back,
You never get so close to death,
Makes you so alive,
I share it all with you,
Powder Blue

Manic Street Preachers - Ocean Spray

It's easy to breathe, it's easy to grieve,
To breathe only air where life should be,
It's easy to laugh, it's easy to cry,
To cry so so hard that it can't be denied,

Oh, please stay awake,
And then we can drink some Ocean Spray.
Oh, please stay awake,
And then we can drink some Ocean Spray.

Elbow - Leaders Of The Free World

I'm sick of working for a living,
I'm just ticking off the days 'til I die

The Bluetones - Slight Return

You don't have to have the solution,
You've got to understand the problem,
And don't go hoping for a miracle.
All this will fade away
So i'm coming home.

The Smiths - There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out

And if a double-decker bus,
Crashes into us,
To die by your side,
Is such a heavenly way to die,
And if a ten-ton truck,
Kills the both of us,
To die by your side,
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine

"When Jason wiped snot on a mod's jacket in the kitchen, his conscience was watching from behind the fridge.
He got mistaken for a ****ter outside KingBurger, and cried into his moustache.
He declared his chips horrible and threw them into the gutter.

Later he went for a walk in the park. Children ran up and spat at him. Even the birds in the trees seemed to whisper "get f*cked"."

Lubricated Goat - Jason the unpopular.

"Don't give me no lip, I got enough of my own"

Aerosmith - Falling in love (is hard on the knees)

Best line ever IMO :)

So many Smiths lyrics come to mind, but I'd say the whole of "I know it's over" stands out. Just ridiculously blunt and in your face.

It's possible to quote many from The Beatles, but I do love the lyrics in Hide Your Love Away and Tomorrow Never Knows the best. The whole idea of saying "Hey, you've got to hide your love away" is quite powerful, IMO.

The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice: "It seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it. But let's talk about it. Wouldn't it be nice." Love that song and that line in particular because it sets up one of the all-time great albums.

Also love the line from Belle and Sebastian's 'The State I Am In' : "The priest in the booth, had a photographic memory for all he had heard. He took all of my sins, and he wrote a pocket novel called the State that I'm in." Perhaps it's the way Murdoch sings it, but I love that line.

I'll have to agree with the Billy Bragg Greetings from the new brunette line. But almost any old Elvis Costello

You lack lust, you're so lacklustre

and from New Amsterdam

til I step on the brake to get out of her clutches
til I speak Double Dutch like a real Double Duchess

She said let's put a plastic bag over our heads
and then kiss and stuff 'til we get dizzy and fall on the bed.
We were in heaven for five or six minutes, then we passed out
and I was so in love I thought I knew what love was all about...

At a Christmas-party, I'd hold your hair when you vomit,
I'd help you up to brush your teeth, and then I'd kiss your stomach.
We lie still on your bed, the room is lit only by the tele
and it's a perfect night for feeling melancholy.
