It's the perfect album in so many ways. I would have thought with your tastes you would have loved it but I can also understand why you don't. I don't quite get the Sonic Youth link either?

At the moment it's my Go To album when I'm on a plane (which happens more frequently than I'd like).

That's an idea for a thread "Your Go To Album" for different situations...

i just thought the guitar textures were SY like..more mellow though
willing to give it another try though

great thread and some excellent choices. :thumbsu:

a truly great album is a rare bird imo; I have plenty of albums that I really like, but there are often a few tracks that I am compelled to skip; my rule of thumb is : for it to be considered a great album (to me) then there can be no more than two tracks that you would skip, regardless of the quality of the other albums.
I'm sure I'll break my own rule with this list though ;)

Whoa, that was hard. Very, very rough list.

Good list agree with all the albums (out of the ones I've listened to, some I'll get to later) apart from Kid A but that probably will grow on me eventually.

Hmmm...

I just realised that in this digital age, I have rarely listened to a whole album, from start to finish for over a decade.

Now it's all shuffle on the iPod, or Shuffle on the computer...or learning songs to jam with others, or learn on acoustic.. So much music to listen to, so many downloads to try, kids, not enough time for a whole album...

So I guess the vast majority of mine, with a few exceptions, go back to my school, uni, or younger career days, when you'd get a new disc and go end to end with it 10 times in a weekend. Like a good friend. From start to finish (with a short gap while you flipped the vinyl) Oh heady days :D

I guess what I've just described might be the case for a few of us older ones...

In no order, 20 or so...

Led Zep - Physical Graffiti

Silent Alarm - Bloc Party

I heard "Helicopter" on FIFA 06 and fell in love. I used Limewire (oh, nostalgia) to get some other tracks on my dial up (we lived on the side of the street that could only get dial up, or $60-a-week 2GB wireless...) and proceeded to fall in love. The album kickstarted my love in music. And from that, enabled me to gain some cultural perspective and to indulge in the culture I am now a part of. Stylistically, sonically, and lyrically, it's an amazing record. No other LP will mean as much.

Kid A by Radiohead

It just sounds so oddly perfect. There are moments in which seem no less than absolutely flawless, and almost too great for five humans to make.

OK Computer by Radiohead

Is a more guitar orientated feeling of Kid A.

Turn on the Bright Lights by Interpol

So awesome in its atmosphere. There is such a density and level of maturity pouring from each track. Styles differ and swerve, from the brooding "The New" or beautiful "NYC" to the fast pace of "Roland". But there's an enviable cohesion despite sonic difference. It's an enviable, luscious, dark, and beautiful album.

These are my main ones, but I'm certain there are others.
