err, you forgot the hard-ons. the most successful australian independent band of all time.

I'm not disagreeing as I am a fan of the Hard Ons but under which criteria are they Australia's most successful independent band "of all time"?

When was there ever an Australian alternative chart? I haven't ever heard of such a thing. Does it still exist?
JUKE music paper used to run an Alternative/Indiependent chart up till about 15 years agobased through the indie record stores. It was a big deal for bands like The Clouds and Falling Joys to crack the national Top 20. But bands like RATCAT, Frente!, Spiderbait and The Cruel Sea managed some strong charting singles and albums, then You am i had 3 #1's in a row. By then the so-called Alternative had become the mainstream. A band like Powderfinger is a prime example.

There was a chart called AIR.CHART don't know if it still exists.

Thanks for that TD I had no idea.

I saw the hard-ons at The Shents in about 1988. The speaker stacks were about 1m off the ceiling and dudes were climbing up and from a crouch down, diving into the crowd. Was a pretty decent gig.

Agreed. "Smashed On A Knee" is a classic.

Hoss, Freeloaders, God, Bored!, etc.

Don't make 'em that like anymore.

Wow the Freeloaders get a mention on BigFooty! All of the Dogmeat bands were great - you add the Dirty Lovers, the Splatterheads, Red Planet Rocketts, Brother Brick, the Sunset Strip. I played on many a bill with these all of these bands. The Powder Monkeys could have been huge if timing and bad luck didn't get in the way.

Anyways back on topic:

The Stooges - Funhouse, Blue Oyster Cult - Tyranny and Mutation, The Dictators - Go Girl Crazy, Black Sabbath - Master of Reality, MC5 - High Time, The Saints - I'm Stranded, Radio Birdman - Living Eyes, The Ramones -Road to Ruin, Alice Cooper - Love it to Death, Motorhead - Overkill, Sunnyboys - ST, Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity. One of these although Funhouse probably still holds number one spot for me.

If I could nominate an EP - Long Live the New Flesh by the Eastern Dark.

Everytime I see a list of the 'Top 50 or 100 records' in history, if Funhouse isn't in the Top 3 at the very least, I immediately ignore it.

That is the worst troll comment I have ever seen...
