Just wondering which commentators people like and dislike, wether it be on radio or tv. I've put a couple of mine down below.

Like:
Jason Dunstall
James Brayshaw
Alastair Lynch
Eddie McGuire
Dennis Commetti
Andrew Jarman (I know alot of people wouldn't like him, but you have to love his passion at least)

Dislike:
Dwayne Russell
Tim Lane
Matthew Campbell
Liam Pickering

.

Just about in line with my thinking, HawkFan15.

The most annoying is Dwayne Russell with his most repetitive style of phrasing in describing a game and his unnecessary raising of his voice at incidents on the field in attempts to sensationalize when there is nothing really in it.

He repeats himself so often with stats on players and past occurrences at which he obviously spends many hours in preparation for his two or three hours of jaw-boning which he would have us believe is commentary.

And worst of all, like so many others, he blabbers on about a scene we, the viewers, obviously can see for ourselves. AFL commentators should follow the style of British soccer commentators who, mostly, call the names of the players as they appear in action on screen.

Just my point of view on one of the worst media presenters by far.

I don't have foxtel so I listen to many games through the net, and you can't go past the guys from SEN. And you get a laugh as well. I just can't get into 7 when we get their games here in Qld, it's like revisiting the 80's.
Ten has Luke Darcy, I find him the most informative and more knowledgeable than blokes like Walls and co.

LIKE: Brian Taylor (when Collingwood are not playing), Dwayne Russell, James Brayshaw

DISLIKE: Rob Walls

Don't mind most of the blokes you've got in your list there. Lynch and Eddie shit me if they're commentating Brisbane or Collingwood games though. Haven't really heard much of Jarman's commentary either. Used to not like Pickering but the last few games i've listened to his calls he's been alright. I'd have to add Tim Watson to my dislike list. He rarely gives more insight than a 2 year old from what i've heard of him.

Can't Stand Dwanye Russel,John Casey or Mat Campbell.
Tony Shaw and Liam Pickering are the worst special comments.

Quarters is the fav caller.

Jason Dunstall is a good commentator because he is an intelligent man. He knows his footy, and doesn't need gimmicks nor catch phrases to keep his call alive. He simply talks "the game" and this makes him interesting to listen to. He's one of the few (if not the only) commentator to realise that all people want to be told is what's happening on the field, who has the ball, etc.

Eddie Maguire is the perfect commentator in a game that is genuinely exciting (and not involving Collingwood). However, if the game is a little bit on the boring side, Eddie's attempts to make it sound like the greatest game of all time can get on the nerves a bit. I'm not totally enamored with commentators who scream their lungs out for the entire game.

Dermott Brereton loves to analyze the game, and cannot wait to tell you what he knows. I find him interesting for the greater part, but I can understand why people not interested in the strategic part of football would find him annoying.

Dennis "gosh I'm so amusing" Commeti is one I have enjoyed for many years, but lately he seems to be more intent on slipping in little quirks he has obviously worked on at home, and at times they are totally irrelevant to the passage of play. Just stick to calling the footy Dennis, you're good at it. Leave the comedy to Dave Hughes.

Malcolm Blight is someone full of football knowledge but is one who obviously doesn't enjoy the modern game as much as he did 10 or so years ago. At times he finds the game irritating and is not afraid to let it known. I can identify with Blighty but, once again, I can see why people find him annoying.

Brian Taylor & James Brayshaw - entertainment value and good for their format on radio. Not so keen on either one on TV.

Rex Hunt - the novelty factor wore off years ago. He just annoys me.

Andrew Hudson - insignificant twirp.

Andrew Maher -totally annoying. He means well but I just can't warm to him.

Bill Brownless - great bloke, would be fun to have a beer with, but he has little to offer in his commentary. Good value for a bit of light relief but that's about all.

Tim Lane - if I said what I thought of him, I'd get a red card, so I'll just leave it at that.

Mark Doran & Francis Leach - arrogant tools who really need a kick where the sun doesn't shine.

David Schwartz - I've got nothing of interest to say ... akin to Ox's commentary.

Sam Newman - the game needs more people who know their footy and are prepared to speak their minds. I'd love to see Sam some back and adopt a slightly more serious and pointed attitude to his sports reporting. Would be fantastic.

Sam Kekovich - cannot get enough of Keka. Sadly, I rarely see him these days, he amuses me.

Karl Langdon - best commentator I've heard in years. Where in hell is he???

Here are some Adelaide callers who I have to endure:

KG Cunningham - very passionate man, parochial South Australian, but his passion and tunnel vision for all things South Australian makes him impossible to listen to. Needs to take the quantum leap into the 21st century.

Graham Cornes - psuedo intellectual who, together with KG Cunningham hosts the "sports" show on 5AA. Sports show? Don't make me laugh, more like the "Crows" show. He is a man who pretends to be intelligent, but he fails miserably in this area. Has enormous chips on his shoulder of all things Victorian, which is okay in small doses, but he is consumed by it. Has so many persecution complexes and conspiracy theories about his time as Crows coach, he's a pain in the gluteus maximus.

Stephen Rowe - King sized tosser. If you haven't heard this guy, how lucky are you?

None of the other commentators interest nor bother me all that much.

I really like n buckley, he’s obviously an intelligent bloke who can make articulate and informative comments unlike the other boofheads ox and timmy watson. I don’t find him biased to Collingwood at all :thumbsu:

I only disagree on Dwayne. I reckon his over the top performances where sounds like he has a man crush on any player who does anything seemingly exceptional on the field, I see as only being good for the growth of the game.

Cannot stand any of the commentators on PortTel and also Channel Essendon (7).

Biased hacks.

Tim Lane also deserves a fair kick to the aggots for his hatred of Hawthorn.

My most hated is Dwayne just because he is so repitive in his phrases and can really sink the boots in when you are loosing. Lines like "skills like that make a grown man cry", "perfection", "pure gold", "it doesn't get any better than that". Also I should have added Swarz because I just don't find him insightful, he is biased to teams and players, once he gets a theory he wont stop on it, eg pendelbury is the smartest player in the league, rischitelli will win a brownlow in his career and now he is pro bulldogs because he is coaching there and he has this habit of saying like grunting or making this oh ho sound whenever someone does something good.

Pickering I'm not a fan because he is comprimised in his opinions.

Personally I like Blight and Dermott I find their thoughts on the game interesting.

Not too hard.

Like:

Dennis Cometti
Jason Dunstall
Dwayne Russell
"Smokey" Dawson ( when he was on ABC radio)
Dermott
Tim Lane (on radio)
Clark Hansen
Bruce (when he isn't overtly excited or calling Essendon games)

Dislike:

Garry Lyon, Brian Taylor, and James Brayshaw in combination.

I'm still getting over an afternoon's commentary where they went on and on about extending "the dukes" when going for a mark, and seemingly forgot about the game.

Bernie Quinlan. Bagged Laurence Schache mercilessly one game

Rex. A bit too transcendental and esoteric for my liking.

Walls. Just find him repetitive and predictable. (Oh there's Luke Hodge getting tackled by 3 players. Time to remind the viewer's how tough he is again.)

Liam Pickering. I dunno. He just grates. Probably just me.

Drew Morphett. Find him annoying. Plus, remember him referring to some players with non-Anglo names as not being Aussies when calling for Ch. 7. Very poor form.
