I work in a bottleo and because of that I know my beers quite well. If you ever want to try something thats better than about 95% of the ratshit being mentioned in here try some of these. I am not into wheat beers they are too over the top for mine (at the moment though I reckon that will change) so heres some a bit more easy drinking and not like your having a meal in a stubbie.

Zyweic - Polish beer is awesome. Have only tried a couple and this ones a beaut. Would love to try more.
DAB - German lager. ****ing brilliant beer especially out of the big 500ml cans oddly enough.
Budvar
Imported Stellar - Not the stuff brewed under license by Fosters. The stuff thats actually imported. Same goes for Heinekin and Becks although they aren't as good.
Trumer Pils - Austrian Pilsner. Best pilsner I have ever tasted.
Gage Roads Lager - Last I heard the way things are going with this mob they'll be out of business soon but god knows why when they have such a good beer like this
James Squire Golden Ale
Blue Tongue Lager
Nastro Azzuro Peroni
Cascade Green - For a PF and low carb beer its tastes amazingly good. However I've heard it has like 2/3rds the carbs wheres as Pure Blonde and co only have 1/3rd hence its cheating.

Have more but I just can't remember.

Overrated Beers:
Kirin = Rich mans Carlton Cold. Asahi and Sapporo are so much better its not funny.
James Squire Pilsner = Probably harsh but its just not my cup of tea. Way to bitter a lot like English beers I have tried.
Obviously just about any CUB beer they have lol. Marketing genius's. Swans beers are that much better and they should be suggesting this more imo.

Anyway go off and try some of those. Might add a few more in the next few days if I can be ****ed.

EDIT - Looking through this thread a little further there is hope :p.

My favorite beers:

Aussie:

Little Creatures Bright Ale-a staple in my fridge
Barons Black Wattle Original Ale-a great surprise!
Holgate pilsner- a bit too carbonated but enjoyable
James Squire Amber Ale- when its on special is good value.

Honorable mention:

Coopers Sparkling Ale- absolutely loved it back in the mid 90's!
Not sure if its been changed too much, or its just me, but it doesn't do it for me anymore. Still it will
always have a special place in my beer drinking heart

Imported:

Zywiec- $50 for a case of 20 500ml bottles at IGA. Good beer, but not exceptional.
Leffe - tried one last night. Nice!
Chimay Blue Cork bottle - overpriced but very enjoyable and complex.
Duvel - again way overpriced, but I love a strong ale

I've read some beer reviews online and the following are now on my must try list:

Rochefort 10
St Bernadus

does anyone know where I can get these? Dan Murphy didn't have them and didn't seem to interested in helping me get any.

Rochefort > St Bernadus, but both tremendous beers

Can't imagine it would be too easy to track down these two, but I've been researching in preparation for my return to Sydney next year, and it appears some of the branded Belgian Beer bars there and in Melb stock the Rochefort at heavily inflated prices.

I had some St Bernadus Abt 12 two weekends ago, not as smooth as the Rochefort 10 (which is #1 on the list atm), the alcohol content is much more noticeable, imo not always a good thing.

I think I said it somewhere else on this thread, but the Prior 8 is better than the Abt 12.

And ET, Purvis Cellars and Acland Cellars have the Rochefort 10. The St Bernardus is a little bit harder to find, but i'll be speaking to a beer importer in the next few days, I am going to see if I can get some sent to me, or if he has any liquor stores buying some through him :D

I will cop it from many football supporters as we are playing like shit atm, but I won't cop it from bloody Richmond supporters. And what does my football team have to do with beer anyway?

I have tried more beers and know more about beer than you do about anything. Idiot.

Think what you wish little man.

Just had a Stella, very nice drop.

Stella is the worst beer produced in the world's best beer producing country.

You have no idea whatsoever. Go have a Heineken next you cultured thing, you.

It seems they are both hard to get so based on that I might just stick to trying to source the Rochefort. Thanks:thumbsu:

Excellent! I might even head down to Acland cellars tomorrow afternoon. I've been drinking wine and scotch lately but have had a renewed urge to drink some very good beer. Looks like all roads lead to Diablo's for a session of St Bernadus:D

I'm drinking a good aussie called Barons Black Wattle Original Ale at the minute. Now, I'm more of a guzzler than a connoisseur so my description won't be great but its a lovely darker Ale with a caramel/toffee flavour. They use roasted wattle seed and it gives it a nice finish.

I'm enjoying it but my VB swilling mates don't rate it. Anyone else a fan?

I've given it a pump up at least twice on here in the previous months.

It's marvelously complex, full bodied, hints of chocolate and toffee, lovely roasted characters and a bold yet not overwhelming hop finish.

To put it simply, it is the best beer in Australia by a mile.

It's so good, it's even won CAMRA awards, and that's not something many, if any, Aussie beers have been able to do previously.

That's exactly what my taste buds wanted to say but I couldn't articulate it as well as you just did lol. I reckon Barons is unbeatable for taste and value.

i'm quite fond of some of the asian brew

kirin and asahi being the obvious japanese choices

also when i went to china, tsingtao was the country's favourite, and among mine

I think Sapporo is the best of the Japanese beers. BWS sell it for about $53 a slab.

Sam Addams and Sapporo are two of my favourites. I also enjoy a few beers from Canada such as Alexander Keiths and Sleemans. As for Aussie beers, I like James Squire and Coopers. Getting into the home-brew at the moment though.

When it comes to Aussie mass produced I can't go past Boags premium.
I don't know if they have stopped making it but there used to be (6 months ago) a very good little Victorian beer called the Cricketers Arms, or something there abouts. It was a very nice beer.
And of course when it comes to Aussie ales, it is very hard to go past Coopers.

Have just tried this years Cascade First Harvest and James Squire Hop Thief both are quite nice, very flavoursome! Another I had was Steinlager Pure, very crisp, I'll never say Kiwis can't brew beer again

The James Squire Hops Thief sounds interesting.......wouldn't mind trying that.
Just had to cancel my trip to Berlin, very pissed off, Berliner (I think thats hows its spelt) the local beer is fantastic, one of the best everyday beers I've tried...so crisp!

If you're in Germany, the Bavarian beers are clearly the best available. I felt like punching the idiots drinking Becks whilst there was Augustiner, Paulaner, Lowenbrau and Hofbrau available.

Not in Germany, but thanks for the tips, I'll look into them next time I'm there.
The Bavarians do make some very good beers, although I'm not a massive fan of the wheat beers......more of a lager man myself.
Last time I was in Germany I coun't believe it when I saw people drinking Becks, or when I'd go into bars and it was the only thing available....its just rubbish..with so many good beers available, and cheaply, they still drink that dirty bath water...just amazing.....
