got a sixer of Little Creatures Pale Ale last night and was a struggle to get through it. Very strange aftertaste

I agree - I have also recieved the 2 worst hangovers in my life from drinking 5-6 Little Crestures... Not sure if it is just my reaction or if there is an unusual preservative/chemical in there that is giving me some pretty serious headaches for the day after. Never Again.

Fat Yak gets my vote though... good drop.

Yeah same. I thought the strange and strong taste might have been the fact that it claimed to have no preservatives or additives. I tried it along with two other mates and all of us hated it. Tasted like detergent had been mixed in with it.

Will have to try James Squire now.

What's the verdict on Fat Yak?

On special at Dan Murphy's so I'm thinking about picking up a carton.

If you've never tried a beer before, I recommend you don't buy a carton, buy a six pack or even one stubbie and give it a go. If you like it, that's great but if you don't then you're stuck with 23 stubbies of a beer you don't like.

Fat Yak is superb though, great beer. I'm sure you'll like it FBF.

Fat Yak is pretty much tied with Pepperjack for my favourite beer.

I saw in the newspaper ads for Dan Murphy's today that there's a new Little Creatures dark ale out. Anyone tried it yet?

Is that the White Rabbit?

Interesting beer. Didn't mind it, but it's a hard one to tag.

I've got a few mates that are very hesitant when it comes to beer and that don't like Fat Yak at all, while the ones that drink lots of beer (us snobs) quite enjoyed it. So maybe it's an aquired taste?

There's your answer. If they aren't fond of beer then they won't like most of them no matter how good they are.

We have just put Fat Yak on tap at the pub I work at. We will also be stocking the new low-carb premium VB beer: VB Raw. It will be officially released tomorrow. We have two stubbies but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Not that VB was getting much love in this thread anyway, but Fosters have reduced its % again to 4.6%. Can we all just stop drinking Fosters' stuff in the hope that they keel over and die? It will obviously never happen, but I cannot understand why people will continue to pay more and more for an increasingly inferior product.

So that means no more VB, Draught, Melbourne, Pure Blonde, Natural Blonde, Corona, Stella, Asahi, Cascade, Crown, etc. Great, thanks.

Wow, really? They dropped Carlton Cold a while ago now VB. There's going to be a lot of pissed off people when they find out about this.

Bring it!!!

We can only dream the dream, but on the flipside isn't Fosters the owner of Matilda Bay?

Likewise, we'd love Lion Nathan to drop off the earth too, but to deprive the good folk of Squires brews would be harsh, yes?

About two weeks ago I was fortunate enough to get to go to the St Sixtus brewery in Westvleteren, Flanderseses region of Belgium, and sample some of their product.

It's as good as the reputation that preceeded it. Probably the best beer I've ever had.

I managed to get a bottle of it which will be accompanying me home in Jan 2010, and opened at 5pm the next time the Pies win on the last Saturday in Sept. (Setting myself up for some major punchlines, I know)

Also got to the Rochefort region and was flabbergasted to see rows and rows of the local trappist product just below the soft drink fridge in the petrol station I filled up at. Going for just over 1 Euro a pop.

I'm not a beer drinker really. People tell me it's an acquired taste but frankly i'd rather drink something i like straight away. If however I didn't have any other option Asahi would be my first and last choice.

My favourite beer is Holsten from Germany.

Although, I can't seem to find it around Melbourne anymore. Previously I would go into Safeway liquor who would usually stock a 6-pack.

Anyone that could help me. I rather not order off the internet.

OK, new beer on the market that needs to be boycotted please. VB Raw. I mean what the f*ck is the point in this? Another Fosters owned low carb/lowish alcohol beer with no flavour for the idiots that think drinking this beer will help them lose wait?

Pure Blonde, Natural Blonde, Carlton Dry, Carlton Dry Fusion Lemon, Cascade Green, Carlton Dry Fusion Lime, Cascade Blonde and now this? And they're all shit.

Seriously Fosters. FOAD.

Didn't want to start a new topic about it but has anyone ever tried out that beer sold in the Aldi supermarkets, or any of their their wine/whiskey/bourbon/vodka/coconut concoction look-alikes?

Hey their hedgehog slices and energy drinks are (surprisingly) quite good, so you never know. :thumbsu:

But I doubt it.

I love Guinness. That is my absolute favourite, but enjoy the following

Brass Monkey Stout
Dogbolter
James Squire Amber Ale
James Squire Porters
Redback

I had Kirin for the first time on the weekend and really liked it. Will look out for it on special.

Yes mate, have tried a couple of their beers - Shipstones Crew is an Amber Ale and IMO not a very good one.

They also have Wernesgruner (sic) which is a German pils and is very good - about $12 per six pack or $40 a slab.

A light beer "Storm" is also a reasonable drop for those who drink the stuff.

Also had some Sav Blancs (Twisted Fork) and thought they were pretty good value, they have a cheaper version of Baileys which tastes slightly watered down but drinkable enough.

BTW - if you like their hedgehog, try their melting moments, they are superb.
