Drinking chimay tripel - simply amazing.

HAs a bit of spiciness, some nice floral hops and some sweet, warming alcohol. Pours with a nice fluffy head and is a beautiful cloudy amber.

After drinking Boags Draught, Carlton Draught and Coopers Stout (and even a few of the Oettinger Pils tallies) over the past few weeks, this seems like a revelation.

Was up in Leura Cellars in the Blue Mountains this past weekend, and found a cache of Rochefort 8's in the fridge for a very reasonable $8 a bottle (considering they go for an extortionate $12+ at the various Belgian Beer Cafes).

But before you Sydneysiders all rush up there, let's just say the fridge stock has currently been exhausted. ;)

Anyone a fan of weihenstephan (sp)? Really dig the Kristal one and I am a big fan of wheat beer as well. Belgian Beer Cafe is expensive as hell but it's good to try those different beers. Tried a like mango beer. Tasted OK but just tasted like juice or one of those cruisers

I havent seen the Elephant Carlsbergs for a while either. Big fan of little creatures rogers and bright ale.

I bought 4 bottles of the 10 a while back. Paid $13 a pop at Ackland St Cellars.

I might go back and grab a few of the 8's if there is any. I put two of the 10's in the fridge on a friday morning, planning to enjoy them that night. My old man popped in to finish painting my windows while I was at work, stuck his head in the fridge and went "Hello". At about 11% ABV the 10 is a hefty beer. After he polished off both bottles, he washed them down with a 500ml Zywiec. Found him asleep on the couch, pissed as a parrot before dinner time:rolleyes:

Brought myself a copy of Michael Jackson's 500 Great Beers Guide the other week. Interesting read.

I have been tucking into some Kozel dark ale of late, it was on special at the International Beer Shop in West Leederville. I quite like it.

I've been drinking the German beer Bitburger lately. Apparently it's Germany's most popular draught beer so it's probably equivalent to a German VB. I really like it, nice and crisp.

i've only had bitburger once, and that was during the Sydney Olympics where we discovered they had the Mini-Kegs. Thought it was okay then!

Lately i have been making my own home-brew so I will say thats the best.

My favourite beers tend to be the ones I drink when eating street food in other countries! must be the experience rather than the beer, cause im talking Tiger, San Miguel ....

Has anyone tried any of the Rogue beers from the USA? Shared a Double Dead Guy Ale 750 ml with the sister-in-law's fiancee (sp?) on the weekend among other goodies (Prickly Moses Saison 750, Red Hill Scotch Ale, Holgate Hopinator plus some Croatian lager he had in the fridge to take a break from the heavy stuff) and at 9.5% (had to look this up on ratebeer.com), it's a real creeper. Try it. It's a bit $$$, but what high-alcohol craft brew isn't?

Reading a fair bit about James Squire is this thread, I've had Amber Ale, I rate it but not sure I'll get it again, Golden Ale and Malt Runner seem pretty popular, any recommendations?

What didn't you like about the Amber? That's what I go to as my standard these days.

They're all good in their own way, IMO. Although I haven't had the Porter.

No, I did like the Amber, but I'm more of a person who likes a refreshing beer after work, and it seemed a little too thick rather than refreshing, but still It's a quality beer.

I've just bought some of the Sundown Lager so hopefully thats more up my alley.

James Squire Golden Ale is absolutely delicious, one of the nicest beers to drink.

Coopers Pale is my standard, refreshing, easy to drink and not to heavy. Dont mind a sparkling ale either.

Kilkenny off tap is delicious, when done properly. So smooth yet delicious. Also a Guinness drinker and dont even mind an evening on the Old.

Will drink Reschs as well.

Kind of how I feel about the Amber Ale too. It's a great drop, but I'm rarely in the mood for it. The Golden Ale is delicious though, definitely recommend it.

Kilkenny tastes like an iron pole.

Been on a bit of a mini beer drinking spree today.

Tried
-Hargreaves Hill Pale Ale - a bit meh. Had high hopes, some interesting yeasty character, but would have preferred much more hoppiness.
-Salzburger Stiegel Bier - a nice pilsner, went well with today's pizza.

Also knocked back a couple of Gippsland Golds from Grand Ridge, and a Melbourne Bitter.

The drive-thru near me has a deal going on Monteith's at the moment. 4 x 6 packs, mix & match for $49.

I got 2 packs of Black, one Golden Lager and one Pilsner.

The Black beer is a fantastic cold weather beer. Reasonably thick body, fairly alcoholic, but easy drinking enough that you can drink a 6 pack, no problem.

The Pilsner is just a great every day beer with a nice flavour hit compared to other pilsners.

The Golden Lager is a very light, easy drinking beer that goes down well if you chill the shit out of it. More of a summer beer. This was my Christmas day beer last year.

I love the mix & match because I can get a wide range to meet my ever-varying beer moods.

The Irish Red Ale goes alright too, but I gave it a miss this time. The Radler is the only one I don't like, cos it's a radler.

Got a slab of Fat Yak recently and have been enjoying this beer a lot, it's one that's very easy to drink.

Has a bit of a fruity small and aftertaste to it.

Anyone else tried it?

Stiegl (minus the second 'e') is a great brewery. Did a tour of it a couple of years ago. They have a great range of beers. Well worth the visit if your ever in Salzburg.

Nice beer.

For me though I really have to be in the mood for this type of beer but when you are it is perfect to fill the craving. Other beers I like when I’m in the mood for a strong flavoured of fruity beer are little creature’s bright or pale ale & Roof top & about a dozen others.

I hardly drink any European beers anymore as I find I enjoy the Australian micro/craft beers a lot more.

Just had some Number 1 in Noumea & some Tusker in Vanuatu.

Both not bad.

Edit: Just read what I posted that I had some number 1, lol. It was in fact a beer & it did not taste like urine.

many stouts in bottle >>>> guinness in can (& on tap in Melb.).

Cases in point - Guinness Foreign, Coopers Extra and the one I'm enjoying right now, Southwark Stout. Great value and 7.4%. SA's not good for much, but they've got it right with Coopers Extra & Southwark Stout.

Feelin' it:thumbsu:

As an aside, the Crown Ambassador is coming out again (or someone I spoke to is getting a few bottles for his store). Has anyone tried it? It sounds like something you'd cellar, but at $95 for a 750ml it better be as good as some of the absolute pearlers that are made here/imported for half the price.

The idea of someone like James Brayshaw bringing this out after a Footy Show and all the associated peons trying a glass and spitting it out claiming "this doesn't taste like Crownies" just makes me shudder.

Just who/what is the market for this beer?
