I'm sure this type of thread has happened 50,000 times before, but voting on Harry Potter #4's do you like Carey poll, reminded me of my all time best Carey moment...

It's wasn't at all spectacular, but i p1ssed myself laughing when it happened

95 or 96? vs. the tigers. my mad tigers supporting cousin and I were sitting on the boundry fwd pocket

Carey is being double teamed by 2 tigers defenders and they've pretty much muscled him out of this contest. the ball comes sailing in and I could swear Carey goes "Mine!"

The two defenders drop off, and he takes the grab flat footed. UNREAL! god i laughed. My cousin nearly jumped the fence i had to hold him back. A magic moment  :D

My first match I've been was the second match against Essendon in 1999. Essendon won by about 4 goals, but it was great match. Carey was easily my favourite player back then and I think he kicked 10.5. At the other end, Lloyd kicked 7 goals. My favourite all time Essendon/Kangaroo game even though we lost. I hated that comeback in 2001!

One of Carey's best games!

Against Port Adelaide in the rain- a final. He led out twice from the square and was ignored. As the player with the ball about 50 out kicked it into the top of the square Carey ran back with the flight, flew into the oncoming pack, took the mark and kicked a goal. PURE BRILLIANCE, COURAGE and PERSISTENCE.

Having a respectful, friendly chat on the boundary with a little boy I know who follows the Pies. Plenty of great moments on the field, of course, but nothing beats seeing a champion with the human touch when there's no spotlight and nothing for them to gain.

Carey played a blinder against us in the QF on 1997. We had finished 2nd and Carey dominated in the wet, and kicked 7.

The game in 1999 against Essendon where he kicked 10 was unreal. That banana from the boundary was truly brilliant.

He's played a heap of blinders.

This is one of my all time favourites too. I have the game on video, but it doesn't really show how hard he ran from the 50, back in to the goalsquare with the flight of the ball, crunched the pack and marked.

I think Port were making a little comeback at that stage, and Carey decided to stamp his authority on the match.

Also loved about 3 of his matches against the Dons... one in 1993 in the last quarter, plus the ones listed above (although later in his career a Carey blinder usually meant we lost).

The game against Melbourne, he kicked 10.2. The two were posters. He marked everything, and had the whole forward line to himself.

Another one was where he beat Jacovich on the boundary, turned around, ran past him and goaled from 50. He may have handballed along the ground, and gathered the ball as he ran around.

And the 60 metre torpedo in the night GF v's St Kilda at Waverley. Amazing effort in the last quarter, and he set up every goal that quarter to win the flag.

Thanks Thewlis Dish and Fusion. You've brought a tear to my eye. I haven't seen the replay many times but your descriptions and that fantastic photograph sure help me relive the great moment. Thanks again. :)

Look at Wanganeen. Way to stand up and fight in a final Gav!!!!

He is genuinely cowering!!!

Too many to mention but I do enjoy watching my tape of the 98 pre season GF against the Saints especially his game in the last qtr.

Off the field fave moment was in the off season, I was having a cold one with friend at my local when Carey came in with some mates for an ale when a young kid came over from the bistro area to ask for an autograph. Signed it with pleasure and even chatted to the kid for a bit. One happy kid that day.

Unfortunately that picture doesn't quite do justice to how good the mark was. As was mentioned, he made a couple of leads, was ignored, and sprinted back and went headfirst into a pack, in the wet no less.

Typical Duck.

around 7 yrs ago while living in perth i went to see north v freo at subiaco with a few mates , one of whom is a roos supporter . we sat ourselves fair in the middle of the dockers cheer squad ( as ya do ) right behind the goals..
freo were winning pretty easily up until half time and the dockers cheer squad were giving carey a heap , really bagging him ..
well , after half time , he turned it on in the last and when north was kicking to our goals , carey was on fire .. one goal he kicked was running into an open goal about 10 m out and he drilled a low torp straight into an unsuspecting docker fan right in front of us , continued his run to the fence and gave'em heaps .. we of course were up standing in full cheer as the roos got home pretty comfortably in the end ..
it was a display i won't forget , i think he bagged 5 or six in the second half ..

thanks for memory duck ...

Tough question. So many memories.

But i have a special little box of hatred stored in my black reserved especially for Essendon. I really do dislike the bastards.

So with that in mind, the way we stormed home with Carey leading from the front in the final quarter of our 1993 round 15 game against the pricks holds a special place for me. That was a tight contest for 3 quarters. Both teams were going at eachother at 100 miles an hour, but Essendon carried momentum into the last quarter courtesy of a 4 goal 3rd term which gave them a 10 point lead. They looked to have the edge.

Pfft. Whatever.

I swear i saw Carey laughing at them as they double, triple and quadtriple teamed him as he took contested grab after contested grab to be pivotal to our 8.8 to 1.2 final term to completely embarrass them by an eventual 38 points.

Vintage Carey, vintage Pagan and it really cemented us as serious contender. Obviously the flag years are special, but 93 was my favourtie year i've ever had going to the footy. So many young guns coming through, such a credible brand of footy and of course the true emergence of our greatest superstar. That Essendon game represents all that was good about all of it.

at one of the family days he took my black texta and i never got it back:D

seriously though his game against melbourne where he dominated was a classic, but the essendon games mentioned especially the one where he took apart 2 or 3 opponents in the last quarter including tim watson sticks in my mind

Agreed. My favorite game from my favorite year. Some of the wins that year were just brilliant. Beat both grand finalists by 38 points, smashed the pies at Vic park, beat the eagles in Perth etc.

My favorite Carey memory was from 99 though. Against Carlton at the G. Was a night game and they kicked the first 5 of the game and we were in all sorts.

2nd quarter I think it was when he came on a long lead to the wing at top speed and took a chest mark and collided with Dean Rice at the same time. Rice was down for a long time and he was a tough bugger. Was never going to drop the mark though. It summed him up for me tough and intimidating mixed with all the talent in the world.

Couldn't have put it better. That is the game I referred to earlier. Essendon triple teamed him - one hit the left arm, one the right arm, the other the back of his head. Unstoppable.

I agree 93 was a special year. Our crowds were hungry for success, and were quite vocal then. It's a pity that we don't seem to have the passion in the latent supporters anymore. Our supporters are too quiet at games. I think when a team is on the rise, like St Kilda, it is a genuinely exciting time. We've been spoilt by success.

Back to the Essendon game - I think we kicked 6 in a row in the last, to blow them away. Great memory. (think it was at the G on a Friday night).

And I think we all hate Essendon more than any other team.

I was working in the city early that day, and there were a heap of Port fans roaming the streets thinking they were going to knock us off.

This one f*ckwit starts raving about how he was going to have kangaroo steak for lunch before going to the game

I told him to look out because y'know, it can be a bit tough that kangaroo. and anyway it's going to be the only taste you'll get all day...thanks to Carey it was :D
