I didn't know that - how many were killed just prior to the USSR entering the war?

I still think Pol Pot is the worst.

Stalin executed all of the officers in the army, replacing them with loyalists.
Hence the heavy casualties and defeats

Mussolini was probably the most intelligent and i reckon looked the coolest

Mussolini was a dick head

Joe Stalin was a serious nut case .Paranoid, frightened maniac.Probably the worst thing about this crackpot was he thought he was the main man for the USSR. Joe would always have to come home and check if he left the stove on. One creepy critter.

i was listening to the sunday night safran podcast, and i have to say http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saparmurat_Niyazov should get an honourary mention!

to put things in a nutshell: he renamed days of the week, and months of the year, of which the first month of the year was named after himself. the title he gave himself was "leader of his people" proclaiming himself "president for life!" <- oh yes- i rule!, and he put a 75 metre tall giant rotating golden statue of himself to commemorate HIMSELF!

that's exactly how i want to be a dictator! Me Me ME!!!! <- seriously i really didnt think it was possible to be a leader of a country and run it like if you were a 6 year old!

but hes dead now, its ok, we can all dance - on his grave! :d

hahahah.

According to wiki, he also renamed the Turkmen word for bread with the name of his mother.

As well as:

  • Niyazov banned the use of lip syncing at public concerts in 2005, citing a negative effect on the development of musical arts incurred by the use of recorded music.[23]
  • Dog and cat ownership in the capital is restricted to one animal by a law restricting the keeping of herds of animals in Ashgabat.[citation needed]
  • According to the Asgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru right hand-drive imported cars converted to left-hand drive were banned due to a perceived increased risk in accidents.[24]
  • Niyazov requested that a palace of ice be built near the capital, though Turkmenistan is a desert country with a hot and arid environment. The palace was never built.[25]
  • After having to quit smoking in 1997 due to his resultant heart surgery, he banned smoking in all public places and ordered all government employees to follow suit. Chewing tobacco on Turkmen soil was later banned as well.[citation needed]
  • In February 2004 he decreed that men should no longer wear long hair or beards.[26]
  • He also banned news reporters and anchors from wearing make-up on television, apparently because he believed Turkmen women were already beautiful enough.
Top guy.

he put turkmenistan on a map (however to paraphrase not the map)

that's why his name immediately springs to mind when i round up a list of dictators, 2 years ago!

it took a conversation on sunday night safran with jon and jack faine talking about their book 'from here to there' for him to get a blurb discussed about him :p

but seriously: i dont think theres any dictator that has had more movies made about him than Hitler, there was a time when world war 2 films was all the rave (boy with the striped pyjamas, inglourious basterds, the reader etc)

Stalin easily. Killed more of his own people than any of the others, if anyone started to build a power base that he thought might threaten him he killed them.

Also purely on the fact that Lenin warned them against ever giving him a power as he would do exactly what he did makes it more unbelievable.

Stalin was paranoid enough to kill his best friend. He would be 1st with Hitler coming in 2nd for me.

Hitler tried to wipe out an entire race of people, surely that slots him into first over stalin/pot/mao who killed mostly their own people in closed societies?

Hitler was easily my favourite dicktaker of all time. It is often forgotten that he wrote 'Mein Kampf' while doing time for receiving swollen goods. Is it any wonder he called the book, 'My Struggle'?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI_prefix

Quote:
One hitler shall henceforth be a unit of measurement equal to 6.0*106 human deaths.

Standard SI prefixes apply. Thus Harold Shipman's achievements amount to 36 microhitlers.

The true utility of the hitler as an SI unit is it allows useful unit conversions.

For example: the EPA currently values a human life as being worth 6.9 million us dollars (6.9 megadollars). A simple unit conversion thus gives us 1 hitler is equivalent to -41,400,000,000,000 dollars. (-41 teradollars).

It can therefore be quantitatively established whether or not someone is "worse than hitler". When congress failed to pass a stimulus bill in 2008 the market lost 1.2 trillion dollars in 1 day, roughly equivalent to 29 millihitlers. Joseph Stalin is the only human I know of who can be called worse than hitler, as his achievements clocked roughly 5 hitlers.

When your bank nails you with a 35 dollar fine, you can confidently tell the teller that they are currently ****ing you over to the tune of 84 picohitlers and ask if they have a very tiny auschwitz behind the counter.
