FFGenie 2008.1 is out!
Download from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/FFGenie

For the newbies
What is it?
A program to assist you in viewing the stats of any Virtualsports run AFL fantasy comp (DT, SC and Yahoo). It incorporates the price change formulas of these competitions to help you predict the price changes of every player.

Can my machine run it?
Yes, being a java application, it runs on any OS that supports java. The major ones are covered (Windows Linux Unix Apple) but I've only tested on Windows. I have seen an Apple version screenshot, no Linux/Unix ones yet (anyone out there? :p)

Features
- Every column in the table is sortable, and can be hidden.
- Filters can be configured to view only a subset of players, including an ability to filter in/out your own team. (See user teams)
- Addable columns:
* 'If Score' (Predicted price change if player scores "X" in the next round)
* 'For Change' (The score needed for the player to move "$X" in the next round)

How accurate are your predictions?
The actual price changes are dependent on the total scores for the round, so it is actually impossible to predict the changes to the exact dollar. However, the variability of the changes are quite small, and from past years I would estimate the error margin to be around +/- 500 at the maximum, but typically much lower. Of course, I cannot give any guarantees so use these predicted changes at your OWN RISK.

For the oldies
What's new?
- Added 6 new columns: predicted price changes in 2 and 3 rounds time, plus # of selections and selection change from last round.
- User Teams can now store the team id making it easier for you to update your User teams.

What's changed?
- The data files should now be 'imported' instead of 'opened'. (see instructions below)
- Filters and sorted columns are not saved. This will be corrected in the next version.

Instructions
1. Make sure you have java 5 (or later) installed on your machine. To check, open up a command prompt or shell and type java -version. If an error message comes up, it means you don't have java installed.
2. Download FFGenie2008.1.zip. Unzip using your favourite zip program (e.g. WinZip, WinRAR etc.) into a directory somewhere on your computer. Make sure the relative directories are kept (e.g. /lib)
3. On most computers, you should be able to double click the jar and the program will start. If you're a Windows user, double clicking FFGenie.bat should work. Otherwise start a command prompt or shell and type java -jar FFGenie.jar
4. Download the round scores for your desired comp.
5. Select "File" from the menu bar, "New", choose your desired comp.
6. Select "Actions" from the menu bar, "Import stats from file" and point to the correct stats file (*.ffs).
7. You're away! Make sure to save your file so you can open it next time without having to import.

What's coming up
I've only released this version early because people were clamouring for it and I was falling behind schedule. I have in mind, an overhaul of the filtering system, which should make it easier for users to configure and SAVE filters. This will also include viewing/hiding of columns.

Issues and Bugs
Any issues and bugs, please post them here and I'll see what I can do. I know some of the instructions are quite complicated especially to the computer illiterate. Rest assured I'm working hard to make it much easier to run the program for the next version, it will be as easy as clicking on a link in a web page.

6. Select "Actions" from the menu bar, "Import stats from file" and point to the correct stats file (*.ffs).

When I click "Actions" it doesnt come up with "Import stats from file." Ive downloaded the R1, R2 and R3 scores for DT. Any help?

Are you running FFGenie 2008.1 or 0.5?

I've downloaded the FF Genie 2008.1 fine, but when I try and download the scores it either just loads and loads and loads and says page cannot be found, or comes up with a whole heap of number such as;
DT
3,4137.084300000,0.259192175
713
Id,Price1,Price2,Price3,Price4,Price5,Price6,Price7,Price8,Price9,Price10,

ect...

1) I think the optusnet mirror sometimes stuffs up for sourceforge.
but
2) Your browser is configured to open files instead of saving them.

In any case, I've uploaded them here as well:

Oops, should have specified.

You need FFGenie2008.1.zip NOT FFGenie2008.1-src.zip

Src is the source files which I'm required to put up.

I have Windows, I have now downloaded the correct file. I go into it and click 'FF Genie.jar' but the same thing happens. Now 3 files come up.... 'META INF', 'ffg' and 'data'...

ok.. done that but for 2 seconds a black box comes up but disspears... ill try changes my preferences to not allow them to associate jar files

Okay that means there's something wrong with running the bat file. Probably means you don't have java installed.

Start...Run...cmd <enter>

cd to the directory you installed it in.
ffgenie.bat <enter>
