Re: FFGenie 2010.1

How do I find my team ID. When I click find and then enter ranking and then search, nothing happens.
The spreadsheet works fine though.

You have to login into the AFL Dreamteam site to find your ID number (if you have a mate in your league get him to go to the league ladder and right click on your team name, then select PROPERTIES and your team ID is there) You can't do this for your own team unfortunately. Others may know how to??

If you have a high ranking (or can be bothered searching with a bad ranking) you can look through the rankings page and right click on your team name to find your ID.

Hi Grimlock,
I'm using a mac and have been able to get ffgenie to run however not import the stats. Downloaded the .gz file you posted it, extracted it so it was an .ffz file however when i try import this file i get the following error message.

"import error. not in GZIP format".

any ideas?
cheers

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Yeah there's a bug in that function after they changed the layout. But as I've said before they now have a search function in the "Rankings" page where you can search for any team including your own.

No, ffz is just a rename of the gz file. The file contained within the GZ/FFZ file should be a ffs file, but you can in fact call it anything but ffz.

Release 2010.2

The focus of this release is on user teams, especially with regards to tracking user teams over the course of the season.

The Bad News: Any user teams you have configured will be lost. (If you want your old teams for some reason, you'll have to run 2010.1)
The Good News: The new features will allow you to easily add back any of your teams in a flash.

I have somewhat rushed this release out because the user teams tracking will only be useful if you update at every round of the season, and hence it is important that you update before the lockout for Round 2 is over.

New Features:
  • Ability to use login information to retrieve your own user team information. No more resorting to finding your obscure team ID information. To use this feature in the "User Teams" dialog, set "Team Type" to "Website Login" and enter your login and password. Note your password will be stored as plain text on your machine. If you don't wish to store your password, leave it blank and you will be prompted to enter it each time you update your team.
  • Each user team's history can be tracked across all 22 rounds, and this now includes weekly score, overall score, team value, weekly rank and overall rank in addition to the players and salary cap left fields. However, the user must be vigilant in updating after every round. If one round is missing, the program cannot fill in the blanks, so to speak.
  • You can load all of your league(s) as user teams in one go. Click the "Load" button in the "User Teams" dialog, and choose the "League" option. This will prompt you for login, password and game type. If the checkbox "Update Loaded Teams After Loading" is ticked this will also update the teams information.
  • Bulk update - This allows you to select multiple teams for an update. This will be handy in later rounds to allow you to keep track of all your user teams.
  • New Game Type - Sportsbet http://sportsbet.afl.virtualsports.com.au

Bug fixes:
  1. Updating from website is fixed.
  2. Data scraping from VS website is fixed.

Use this version, use the update features as normal, and don't worry about those ffz files anymore.

General notes:
  • Please be patient when using the new "Login" options. They have to load 2 or more full web pages to get the relevant information.
  • The size of the program has increased so please be patient while it's downloading the new version.

However, the user must be vigilant in updating after every round. If one round is missing, the program cannot fill in the blanks, so to speak.

I've just downloaded 2010.2 and loaded all my league opponents into user teams. This worked very smoothly, and quickly. However, it did not calculate nay of their salary cap remaining figures, only mine. Is this how it's supposed to work?

Do I need to add them in manually? If I do, won't it just reset them to zero when I update next round?

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Yes I should have mentioned that it only pulls the salary cap out of your team. I have an idea of how to calculate for other teams but haven't implemented it yet. If you manually update, it only updates the current round, so it won't override whatever you placed in the fields for the previous rounds.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Great work grimlock.

By the way, if you have joined a Group, then you can identify your own team ID number by going to the Group page and plucking the number after 'other_teams&tid=' in the URL.

For example, my team is this URL in the Group:

http://dreamteam.afl.com.au/?p=other_teams&tid=7622&lid=1

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

I love this software. Grimlock you are a champion! I do however have a small problem which someone may be able to help with. Whenever I try and load a file I have previously saved I get an error message that says

"Error: Invalid file. No enum const class ffg.entity.AFLPosition.CTR It is likely this is a stats file and should be IMPORTED rather than OPENED."

It is a mild irritation that I can't just reopen saved files.

Great work on the new version Grimlock:thumbsu: It shouldn't be too hard now to calculate the profit/loss of each trade and thus the salary cap left. I will have no need for my spreadsheets anymore.

One suggestion is that you also provide a trades left indicator for each team when you implement your salary cap left stuff ;).

The only thing that I can see causing problems is the new multiposition players and working out when they have only moved versus being traded.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Grimlock, i can't get into the program at all since the upgrade:

An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

when i try and use the website login option to download teams i get the following error popup. "Java.net.UnknownHostException: SuperCoachHeraldsun.com.au".

could it have anything to do with my team name having ":" and "-" characters in the name?

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Uploaded R2 files

I also know there's a bug where if you update from team Id, it gets your weekly and overall ranking mixed up.

First, thanks for your work on this grimlock, it's awesome!

Is there any way I can manually download a stats file? I'm behind a firewall here and if I can't I'm SOL.

Re: FFGenie 2010.1

Those unknownhostexceptions means that you can't see the website. Www.freewebs.com in the first case and the sc site the second.

You can always get the stats file at
www.freewebs.com/ffgenie/stats/2010/DT/DT-R2.ffz

change the game type and round for the appropriate file
DT SC YA FO SB are the available game types
