why is our draw so hard

campaigners

We ended up with one of the easier draws last year. But this year our doubles are Eagles which is premium, but the other 5 Swans Port Demons Dogs Saints is a campaigner of a draw. We will probably need two wins on that Marvel swing v Dogs and Saints.

The toughest schools produce the hardest graduates Groupie. :)

The one issue is that these 3 wins have been on the back of our good players. We haven't had a young player emerge this year like Baker, Balta or Bolton. This list has to keep rejuvenating.
Bolton has been pretty big the last couple weeks, Taranto obviously doing what Taranto does.
Dusty & Cotch have also been playing good, I think it's star power of old that is winning us games.

Will just miss out. That Essendon loss will haunt us.

But then we would still have Dimma. That would make the 2 Marvel games a certain loss.

I don't think we make it, it's quite a tough run, maybe Port have locked up top 2 and aren't serious in the final round?? For me i would consider it very unlikely unless we beat Brisbane. The Swans game won't be easy for us at all either, they will have Mills and others back by then.

Nah the druggies and Gold Coast game will cost us I think it might come down to last round of the season and we play port over there and if they are playing for top spot they won’t rest players

Yeah, I've been disappointed with Sonsies progress, he looked like he could be a player last year but seems to have gone backwards. Ross looks a solid player and Clarke could be anything once he builds his frame and gets a few games under his belt. Gibcus injured has hurt his progress.

Yeah if we beat Brisbane IMO. Up in the air if we lose.

I think we can lose a maximum of three games, meaning no upset losses (i.e., beating Sydney, West Coast, Hawthorn, and North Melbourne) and no more than three losses of the following:

  • Brisbane (Gabba)
  • Western Bulldogs (Marvel)
  • Melbourne (MCG)
  • St Kilda (Marvel)
  • Port Adelaide (AO)

If we lose against Melbourne + the interstate trips, then the Marvel games are a must-win. If we beat Brisbane, then we can lose one of the Marvel games. To make the finals comfortably without relying on other results though, we can only lose 2 more games.

I believe we can do it. We’ve gone back to playing an offensive and efficient style that made us so difficult to beat last year. What’s even better is that we can now win close games. Even if only finishing 8th, I think we’ll make finals.

Solid analysis. I'm very confident that if we finish 8th, then we'll make finals

I still think our attack is letting us down. Basically our defence has been the reason why we have repelled the opposition when they have had I50 dominance. That luck will run out sooner or later. We need to get more goals out of Riewoldt/Miller/Ryan and also create more pressure from the smalls.

Let's look at the Brisbane game as a free hit. Most people here assume we will lose it, but Brisbane has been coasting for a few weeks so if we play like we have been, we are a chance. Need to start nailing our chances though.

Man I hope Lynch comes back soon, because he’d solve most of our issues tbh

12 wins and a draw would probably mean we scrape in. It's a pretty even comp.
Not this year i dont think it does with the extra round you would think its going to take 13.5 wins for Richmond to make finals
We have 6.5 wins so require another 7 wins and can only lose 2 more games

Dont think we make it and will finish 9th
Bombers loss is going to HURT

giv me flags

hungry fat bastard GIF

We should still aim for finals.
But for me finals this year isn't the be all.

We still need to start blooding some players that we haven't seen yet.
I don’t think we can hedge the bets. If we make finals we should be all out for the flag, that was the plan for 2023, it’s always been about the last dance with this group before the Cotchin, Riewoldt types go and the Grimes, Lynch, Martin types add another year to the older legs.

I imagine while finals are still a mathematical chance the club is all in on them, otherwise there’s an argument for a change in selection philosophy after the bye.

Not as simple as that, in this competition teams are always improving, if you don’t improve or you stagnate, you go backwards. If we’re relying on a last dance type scenario we are no chance bc cotch and Reiwoldt aren’t getting better. The only way we do some Damage is from the improvement of players like Ross, Miller, Ryan, HRS, clarke, Cumberland, Sonsie, Mj etc. The positive is that even though our two brightest lights last year cumbo and Sonsie have fallen off, improvement has come almost unexpectedly from Ryan, Miller, Ross, Mansell and Clarke. If cumbo and one of
Coulthadd/mj can also force their way in, then im Feeling pretty bullish

It's just looking like one of those years where we're gonna finish half a win out due to our draw.
