Good thread idea.

If we arbitrarily say you need to have played at least 100 games to be considered, would the number of players in the 'non flag' camp significantly outweigh the flag camp?

Weight of numbers to pick from alone would be some advantage to the non-flag players.

Then of course you have to consider: with the likes of Bobby Skilton standing out in poor sides - would he just be another good player in a top side, or would good teammates elevate his play even further?

Yeah just make your teams everybody is eligible.

Non-flag camp would have more players to pick from but quality could outweigh quantity from the flag camp side.

I'll keep mine to AFL era to fit your criteria.

Flaggers

FB: Enright Scarlett Wanganeen
HB: Hodge Rance McLeod

C: Judd Voss Matera
FOL: Cox Williams Ablett.Jr

HF: Hird Carey Martin
FF: Franklin Dunstall S.Johnson

IC: Goodes Cousins Akermanis Dangerfield

Non-flaggers

FB: Burke Andrews Clement
HB: R.Smith Roos Hinkley

C: P.Kelly Hocking Buckley
FOL: Stynes R.Harvey Fyfe

HF: Pavlich N.Riewoldt Ablett.Sr
FF: Modra Lockett B.Johnson

IC: Richarson Goddard West Betts

Non-flaggers would have GAS, Pavlich, B.Johnson, Smith, Buckley and Richardson running havoc as utilities.

Although the flaggers could rightly do the same with McLeod, Hodge, Goodes, Akermanis, Hird and Dangerfield.

Edit: Out Rutten, in Andrews.

Just considering some of the teams who've had memorable droughts over the history of the league, a few names I'd throw up from each team (several of these could have been included under multiple teams, so I've just gone with the team that i associate them most readily with:

Adelaide: Tony Modra, Eddie Betts
Brisbane: Lachie Neale
Carlton: Bruce Comben, John James, Patrick Cripps
Collingwood: Des Tuddenham, Len Thompson, Nathan Buckley
Essendon: Zac Merrett
Fitzroy: Kevin Murray, Garry Wilson, Paul Roos, Bernie Quinlan, John Murphy
Fremantle: Matthew Pavlich, Nat Fyfe, Aaron Sandilands
Geelong: Gary Ablett Sr. Garry Hocking, Paul Couch, Dick Grigg, Joe Slater, Henry Young
Gold Coast: N/A
GWS: Toby Greene
Hawthorn: Col Austen, Bert Mills, Jim Bohan
Melbourne: Gary Hardeman, Robert Flower, Garry Lyon, Jim Stynes
Port Adelaide: Travis Boak
Richmond: Matthew Richardson, Maurice Rioli Sr, Bill Morris, Roy Wright
St Kilda: Tony Lockett, Robert Harvey, Nick Riewoldt, Trevor Barker, Nicky Winmar, Nathan Burke, Lenny Hayes
Sydney: Bob Skilton, Peter Bedford, Gerard Healy, Paul Kelly, Barry Round
West Coast: N/A
Western Bulldogs: Gary Dempsey, Doug Hawkins, Brad Johnson, Scott West, Chris Grant

Not a bad effort. Harris Andrews a much better player than Rutten. Id also swap Dunstall with Billy Frampton.

Actually, not a bad point about Andrews. I wasn't thinking much about current players except for Dangerfield and Fyfe, who are close to retirement (i.e have played their peak footy).

Greene could also end up a contender for one of these sides?

Anyone else from the current crop of players (let's set the mark at 25yo or older, no young pups)?
