I thought meh about him forward but watching the scratchy footage he definitely moved with purpose in dangerous positions. It’s only 2s but showing a bit. At least he’s hitting the scoreboard which other pressure forwards aren’t doing.

Just can’t stomach this guy whatsoever- don’t know what it is but a full time whipping boy

Prove me wrong

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app

We are 11th for scoring and effective inside 50’s, 9th for tackles inside 50 (pressure).

those stats are currently why we are sitting 8th, just. They are actually very damning considering all the top teams are obviously on top in those stats. Our kick to handball ratio is horrible to, we overuse it... which again can come down to lack of tall targets to kick to up forward...

we need to change our forward mix cause it’s not working atm, even more so after quarter time. Applebee’s form in the scratch matches warrants selection. Can’t have any less scoreboard impact than brown, atu, Thomas etc. we need goals.... Atm where are we going to get 10 goals from? it’s a huge concern.

No better time than now to mix it up with condensed fixture. Play reid and Cameron, let checkers be third tall. anything!

checkers was originally a defender and has progressed to a great forward even having to play 2nd tall when he’s really a third. Apples may surprise us.

Hell move sidey into forward line. give Elliot more time in middle etc. make some changes...

At 186cm, 82kg... you need to be quick, have real forward smarts or a good leading mark in order to consistently play in an AFL level forward line.

So I’m not convinced he will be more than another Ben Crocker at that size, pace, etc. But he has showed form and along with Broomhead... he deserves another chance before hard calls on the list are made at years end.

Couldn’t be much worse than C Brown since this year, JT since 2018 and Atu after his debut game.

Good luck to him.

Had a dip, but needs to sharpen up his skills.

The concern came for me where he marked the ball right next to the goals, but allowed his opponent to creep the mark and went way too far back. He should have held his position and stayed as close to goal as possible. Then good forwards run around on their left and kick it...or open up the angle slightly and banana.

He turned what should have been a 90% kick for goal into a 10% shot by not thinking through it.

Then he had another few opportunities and just didn't seem to have the proper goal sense. Looked really unco.

But he had a real crack, and helps with forward pressure for sure.

Would be prepared to give him another crack, but I don't think we can pursue with both Ruscoe and Appleby who are both hard workers but probably lacking a few tricks.

Just on Thomas, I've been as critical as anyone, but I reckon he has been ok the last few weeks. Kicked 2 goals and has been more involved. Still no where near the level we need him, but seems on an upward trend.
Yeah, this is where I'm at. He's improving, if very slowly.

And considering he wasn't dropped after those dumpsters of games he played earlier hard to see him being dropped now

Fantastic spirit and courage but very sloppy skills. The Anthony Hudson groan when he attempted a banana snap from the left sided pocket which went flying into the stands said it all. It was something you might see in a suburban game of footy, not at the elite level. Probably deserves another chance.

He doesn't have goal kicking instincts, a lot of his chances he stuffed them up horrendously.
On the flip side, he was one of our only forwards who managed to get himself in to positions to score multiple times. In his first senior game as a forward we should be able to forgive the mistakes. He’ll go back and look at the footage with the coaches and learn from his mistakes (hopefully). Inexperienced players shouldn’t be written off so quickly for making mistakes that come with... inexperience.

That was a dumb mistake, but I can guarantee you if he finds himself in that spot again he’ll do it differently. It will be something that would be drilled in to him during the review.
