Fancy a coach looking to pick his assistants. Disgusting behaviour!
Who knows with St Kilda anymore. I wish they would just sort their shit out already. If it's not off-field, it's in the football department. Getting real tiresome.

The club has been actively looking for Laidley's replacement for a while. And yes - it includes Choco. There is a reason the North players called Laidley "the bible" and players refused to play for him when he was senior coach. As SW's hatchet man - Laidley didn't make too many friends at Moorabbin.

One story says that SW said words to the effect of "if I can't choose my assistants then how can I do my job as senior coach" - club said "we appreciate your sentiment but Laidley has to go". Caro will no doubt report it as SW saying "if Laidley goes then so do I" the club said "well there is the door SW and waive goodbye to your back ended contract and bonuses". The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Watch this space for more action early next year. As I have posted before - the AFL will have a say in SW's future.

I assume this would be due to us most likely not having enough cash to pay out his contract if we get rid of him? If the club did have to go to the AFL would we also see some board members step down? It would seem like a bit of a stretch to put the blame for the poor financial performance on the new CEO or Watters so the only people that could take the brunt of the blame will be the board members.

Is he? When exactly did he become a flog?

We're pretty happy for the appointment for someone that's been around and knows the ropes. What didn't you guys like about him?

Well known flog as in he is a rude, arrogant prick which isn't something you particularly look for in coaches. Not saying he doesn't know what he's doing or that he is necessarily a bad coach, just that he's a dick head.

Terrific. Just what we need. :thumbsu:

Nice guys don't always win unfortunately.

Haha, true enough. But you also don't want a guy dividing your playing group either and being overly critical or attacking instead of constructive. I think Mick brings enough grumpy for the entire club, don't need Laidler in there as well IMO.

There's a bit of yin & yang going on with Mick and Wiley. Good thing is that most of the young guys really like Mick.

Horses for courses anyway. Laidley may fit for us and your incumbent coaches may be better for you.............then again they may not. Only time will tell.

Cheers. :thumbsu:

Probably 2 separate things there mate.

The lack of $$ is basically equivalent to the missing members (10k members). The AFL dictates where handouts are used by clubs and is the reason why they don't pay out the stadium deal because suddenly clubs wouldn't be beholden to them in the same way.

I don't think SW is being blamed for the lack of $.

Unofficially been a difficult person to deal with for a long time. He officially became a flog when he left St Kilda for Carlton (even if he was pushed and the exit wasn't voluntary).

For the record im not preaching 'Doom & Gloom' im just asking a simple question.

We have a easy opening two rounds ( easy on paper anyway).
If god forbid we lost both of those games what happens to Watters???
Im quietly confident we can win both games but im guessing there would be the Mother of all crisis meetings if we didnt.
On the Flipside we might actually get something positive written in the Papers about our young players if we win both like we should.
im praying for a 2-0 start to 2014:D

Oh, I realise that Watters isn't being/wouldn't be blamed for the poor finances, I was just including him to encompass the whole system. Do you think that board members will go if we need the AFLs help? Even if the cause is clear (-10k members) they were still incharge when it happened. Or is it one of those causes that they will just shrug their shoulders at and put the blame on fickle supporters.

I think the real flog atm is Caroline Wilson

She is a bigoted joke/

Exodus this, exodus that. One would think we are departing for Egypt

I disagree, Wilson is a terrific journalist who is happy to take criticism for presenting what she knows. While it isn't always accurate, I wish the News Corp. journos would do the same as we would finally begin to force clubs to clean up their act, not sweep it under the carpet. The Saints have an issue, the extent of which is currently unkown, but at least we are trying to resolve the problem.

I don't blame the current board. They were dealt a poor hand by Archie Disaster and the earlier decisions of previous boards (although I accept that some remain).

I agree Rahul. Personally I dislike her prose and tendency to sensationalise but her facts are far truer than she is ever given credit for. Caro's recent article was basically a repeat of a PM that I read the week prior..... She is more of a pure journalist as you say and less influenced by the social circles that she keeps (although not completely).

The true test for Caro in my eyes is if she comes out and says that we are cleaning up our act instead of saying nothing.

One thing is for sure - she knows more than Greg (I have no inside mail or idea about football) Denham. Honestly - how does that bloke get a gig in the media  Or Damien (I couldn't interview Robin Williams and get my info from BF) Barrett.

Well put, our new President doesn't suffer fools lightly and to be honest the players don't give a stuff about what goes on at board level, at least we aren't talking about scandals, rapes etc, it's all pretty mild stuff really compared to the past.

If that eventuates then that's basically the death knell for Scotty. Lets face it, Choco would only be switching so he's first in line when SW gets it in the neck, and he'd be clued in on the chances of that happening too.
