Can someone explain why Spangher has become the whipping boy out of all our coaches?

Forward line is certainly not our main problem.
Because. He not big name.

As for the subject at hand. I cannot speak to maples competency given his roles have been away from the public eye. However given he is the conduit between the club and it’s coaching staff and there’s a clear disconnect between the two, something had to give. In the end after 12 years it had to start but shouldn’t end with Maple.

Bring on the club wide refresh.

Our forward line was appalling.
  • Constantly spoiling each other.
  • Rarely a crumber in site.
  • too close that it allowed extra defenders to attack the contest.
  • Leading patterns which were constantly ignored by either leading to wrong areas or our mids being too one dimensional when going inside 50.

This, our forward line was terrible. People think it was good because our points for was reasonably high but we scored over 71 against top 8 teams twice. Mostly struggled to get out of the 60s.

If our midfield is not allowed to dominate as it does against crap teams our forward line is the pits.

If people wonder why Sphanger cops shit just take a look at his LinkedIn, he has no right to be where he is lmao, nothing “immature” about it.

Ah yes. The source of truth that is LinkedIn.

Luke Beveridge’s right-hand man Chris Maple - the Western Bulldogs’ coaching and operations manager - has resigned from his position at the club @7NewsMelbourne

This is probably a silly question but what did Maples role encompass ? What would be the job description be? What tasks would he do? Would he have input into game plan, style etc etc what is Right-hand man?

It is somewhat true though. How does someone with literally no coaching experience receive a senior coaching position dealing with several prodigiously talented young forwards after barely playing forward at any stage in his career?

Every coach starts somewhere but usually in a development role. He was completely out of the AFL system for half a decade before receiving the position.

I’m guessing it’s sort of a senior assistant with more management/strategy involved. A traditional senior assistant role next please.

Because people appoint him to the position based on a process that is undertaken.

People forget how little time we had to pick our assistants for this year. It hasn’t worked but I’m also mature enough not to sink the boots into a guy who’s done his best in an unfamiliar role.

Forward line is certainly not our main problem.

It may lay somewhere in the fact he was enlisted armed with more experience flogging FlyBuys than coaching (literally, none), demonstrated nada in his playing career that suggests he's au fait with forward craft nor fit to be charged with developing generational forwards, all pretty much borne out when half our attacking entries were met with a multi-car pile up of teammates 'backing themselves' with predictable carnage.

That said, our forward line did function beautifully as a trampoline for opponents.

But mostly I reckon it's because his surname is SPANGHER and he looks like this:

In recent years all the Assistant coaches reported into Maple. His role was to make sure all the coaches were aligned in thier strategy & execution.

A great long time servent of the club but he had to go. Still need 2-3 more changes.

Aaand that’s exactly what’s in question - why and how the people who have appointed him to this position have came to this conclusion. Probably why one of those people has just been sacked.

This isn’t the Wangaratta u15s, why were we so underprepared to replace uncontracted assistants?

Congrats on being so ‘mature’ your parents must be so proud lmao. No ones having a crack at the blokes character, merely questioning his underperformance in a role he should not be in, on a flipping Internet forum who gives a shit honestly

Man people take themselves so seriously 😂

I’m not “so mature” and I’d appreciate it if you left my parents out of your rubbish posts.

What ever happens in our review

The only thing i want to happen so quickly is the midfield coach to teach Bailey Smith the short kick

The lads long kicks are almost guarantee turnovers
At least when he clangers the long kick they're further away from opposition goal than when he clangers the short kick.

It wasn’t just a function of time, I believe it was also money.

Someone posted last year that we couldn’t pay enough to attract the best senior assistants. Hence we ended up with cheaper and/or less experienced options. Maple was meant to help them along.

I didnt realise how little AFL experience the assistant/support coaching group has until today. Aside from Rohan Smith and Travis Varcoe, it looks pretty thin with unknowns of Spangher, Webb, Maddocks and Edge.

Webb was with the Dockers for 6 or 7 years, wasn't he?

Midfield Coach and Development Coach, or something like that?

Maddocks has been around for a little while. The club will keep him. He is a star.
