I disliked Garry Lyon way before it was cool.
I always disliked his stupid mumbling on TFS, you turn it up to make it out and nek minnit, very loud moronic canned audience noise

Given his history of building lists, how he ever got that moniker is beyond me.

When Terrys not available, theres always Chris (Yes I really did recruit buddy and rough/legend in his own mind) Pelchan
During the finals series of 2013-14 Gerard did not once predict a Hawthorn win in any of the preceding finals or GF's in each premiership year. He was zero from 6 finals, and followed up with a similar strike rate in 2015.I've never understood the hate for Gerard Healey and Dwayne Russell. They are both intelligent (compared to the vast majority of other football personalities), both unbiased (compared to the vast majority of other football personalities) and both good at their job. Dwayno's been calling the NBL games and doesn't miss a beat. They don't deserve the hate in my opinion.
was a breath of fresh air.

So he's either dumb or biased, I'm not sure which.

Specifically in this case, that of Garry Lyon.
I'm not really interested in the drama that caused his sabbatical in the first place, but his return was heralded as some sort of massive homecoming for one of the best voices in football.
Hang on - when did that happen? At what point did Garry Lyon become some sort of ultimate football authority? His crowning achievement post a decent (if not great) playing career is hosting a show more about buffoonery and entertainment than footy.
It's not generational - aside from recently retired players who get a gig because they're well known, there hasn't been anyone new commentate or offer special comments for at least a decade. The only new one I can think of is Hamish McLachlan whose brother is AFL CEO.I am not trying to cause a generational fight but there needs to be a big injection of young blood into the fourth estate
The could go into a bit of detail about A1 A2 A3 and D1 D2 D3 and what players in those positions on the ground should be doing.er how much more insight can you get with a fixed method of kicks, handballs, marks, and whatever else... oh goals, and behinds.
bursting the bubble but entertaining calls are very limited and well it is repetitious.
Attack... Defence... running round in circles, loading up, hand balling in tight contests, leading to the west wing. hah, oh there is a plethora of glorious thingsThe could go into a bit of detail about A1 A2 A3 and D1 D2 D3 and what players in those positions on the ground should be doing
Alaistar Lynch is also one who needs a whack, he was so bland and dull I am wondering what the hell does he bring.

For commentary, McAvaney, Taylor, Hudson, Zempilas, Russell et al were in the media game 10 years ago (or more).
For special comments, Dermott has been retired for 25 years, Dunstall 20 years, Healy nearly 30.
I tuned into JLT this year and had to listen to J Brown, Dunstall and Russell riff on the same thing commentators have been saying for years. When do we get more insight?
I did expand the message you've quoted. Might explain what I was getting at a bit better.Attack... Defence... running round in circles, loading up, hand balling in tight contests, leading to the west wing. hah, oh there is a plethora of glorious things
to talk about.
always teasing and loving it...
Basil is a product of commetti and endorsed by him too. The perfect example of a boys club leaving us with shit commentary. Noticed basil has taken over telethon and the olympics too. The prick is WA's version of eddie maguire.
I note with interest that the latest radio survey ratings are in, and they don't paint a pretty picture for SEN, and specifically, the much publicized return of Garry Lyon to broadcasting in their morning team.
I'm sure you can find a news service of your choice to give you the figures (SEN share dropped from 3.8 to 2.5) - but it got me thinking about the complete inability of the fourth estate to realise that what they say is a valid opinion, doesn't make it a valid opinion.

And yet we're told by the greater rumblings of the industry that this is a voice to be listened to.
The problem as I see it though, is that your serious football fans tend to reject those that don't really deserve such accolades.
When Matthew Lloyd talks about a forwards craft, leading, goal kicking technique - I listen.
When Brian Lake talks about the subtleties of team defense, playing in front of an opponent - I listen.
When a man who never seemed to have the proverbial stones to coach himself attempts to analyse the errors made by actual coaches, well...
So my question I suppose is, why does the industry insist on pushing people who clearly don't have the support of the wider football public?
Craig Hutchison is one of the most thoroughly dislikable people in football, and yet is hosting The Footy Show.
Hamish McLachlan is, well Rompingwins.
Is it just a lack of talent in broadcasting today? Or are media outlets convinced they can simply push what they like under our noses?
nah just take it as something from a person who has had a bit of a break from the footy full on.I did expand the message you've quoted. Might explain what I was getting at a bit better.
He's been watered down big time in the last year or so but he's still the best.
Sounds exactly like Dermie.
