For Lindsay's own good....

What he said.

Watched him kick straight at training on Saturday, so it has to be mental. Needs to put through 4 or 5 at VFL to remind himself he can.
Saying that, I think he needs to keep his feet more often. Its killing us coming out of the forward line.

Brad said that LT goes out on the ground at training, will have 120 shots (the limited shots rule has been lifted from LT) and will kick 112, come game day it flips around.

Its all mental, he has the ability, who knows maybe a run in the VFL is the kick in the pants he needs? Whatever it is he needs to do something differently, im in support of the few days break (as a start) suggested by scotty a few posts back.

I watched him closely today and I am 100% sure he tried not to get the footy. IMO he sees getting th footy as just another chance to be exposed. The mark resulting from Harper's kick into space came about because Lydnsay led hard into that space because he thought he would be running into an open goal. The Collingwood player made good ground and we know the rest...

Exactly, it's killing him and somone needs to release the pressure. Clearly he can't do it himself. This is as big a test for Bon as it is for Lindsay, IMO.

I think the concern on Thomas is how he will react if axed...he's mentally not in a good place and we need to handle him very carefully.
I just think he needs a break from footy, even just for a few days, and certainly needs a break from AFL footy...it's killing him slowly.

I watched him pretty closely in the last quarter as he was up the Ponsford Stand end where I was, and he was as close to a player that was trying not to fail, rather than a player trying to achieve good things.

He's like an Ian Baker-Finch football clone at the moment. It's clearly all in his head, which is unfortunate. It looked to me to be even more unfortunate that Aaron Edwards was the only bloke I saw for your side that tried to get him to get his head up. It was good to see the Pies players getting around him at the end of the game, Leon and Harry O went straight to him.

At some point we have to realize we are literally watching a human's mental state crumble into ashes.

I feel for LT, but I was working today and watched the vast majority of the game in between jobs.. and when he missed from 15m it took every ounce of self-restraint not to belt the old bloke standing next to me in the throat from sheer frustration.

You've got to feel for the guy. The mental and emotional anguish is palpable.

I agree with Scotty, the situation needs to be handled delicately. I'm on record as a fan of LT (or at least a defender), but while we need to take care with Lindsay to ensure his long-term well-being, we can't tolerate ongoing goal-kicking performances like that. I'm sure Lindsay would drop himself from the side given his yips.

It's how its done, and how he's handled that matters.

The Bulldogs are going to destroy us. We are mentally weak and have no players who can pick us up and really get something going.

If it is true and he was in tears at 3/4 time then thats just about it for him.

What happens if he goes into the 2's and does the same thing there? Does he then think he can't play AFL?

He obviously has a football mental issue and a fair percentage of football is mental.

I say rest him for a week. No games just relax and come out for the blues. He should have some confidence playing with them he killed them last year.

You have to feel sorry for the guy, he's obviously working his arse off, and getting the yips when he does get the ball (especially a set shot).

I've been saying for weeks we can't afford to carry a specialist forward who cannot convert set shots ; it's a pity the selectors didn't make the hard call 4 weeks ago, would have been better for LT and for the team.

They have to do something now, whether VFL or a non-forward role. If LT lines up in the forward line next week, it would be sheer stubborn bloody-mindedness of the type last seen from the Allied commanders in WWI.

It would be downright sadistic.

He's going to be a good player for us, and he WILL turn it around, but we need to view Lindsay with an eye to the future for the rest of this season.

Or from Julia Gillard today...

Total agreement here Kimbo.

It's sad that it hasn't turned for him and I've got admiration for Scott for sticking by his man under intense scrutiny.

But in having said that, the time to get him out of the team before the damage is irreparable is now.

I think sometimes we forget how young LT actually is, he turned 23 not 5 months ago, he's a kid basically, he's going to be prone to the same doubts that our 'young' brigade are.

If we treat him like an older player, and burn him out this early in his career he might never come right. I agree, this has to be handles carefully.

Seriously, it shouldn't have gotten to the stage that he's basically falling apart in the middle of the MCG. He should've been dropped weeks ago. Sh*t like this is contagious within the playing group.

If you can't handle the heat ...

For those of you who think that my comments may sound harsh, ask yourselves in what other profession or occupation does someone who is clearly not up to the task get carried for so long. Certainly not the one that I'm in.

Shows how breaking down at 3/4 time display someones soul for the club in a way. Bloke obviously cares about this club, its a shame that poor footy has impacted his ablity to be an explosive forward.

Wonder how many other blokes (if any) would do the same thing in LT position?

Rest is much needed.

Poor guy.

Give him a rest.
It has gone beyond amusing and is now just plain sad to watch him.
Apparently he was in tears at 3-4 time and wasn't keen on going out to the huddle.
Give him a break, for his good and the team's.
He is trying hard, but he is also disintegrating in front of us.

Where'd you get that from?

I don't care how shattered he is, if for starters he's in tears, what is he a ****ing baby? Grow up and man up and get the job done. And second, he should've been out of the team a few weeks ago getting some confidence back in the VFL (or at least trying to).

But give me a break, you get paid a lot of money to do this stuff. If you're feeling vulnerable, speak to the coach during the week before the games and ask for magoo time.

And thirdly, the players want a pay-rise?

There were 22 blokes in black and white today who are very deserving of a few extra bucks. First, for putting on such a clinic. Secondly, for having to put up with firsthand the crap that we dished up today. At least the paying public could leave early if they so chose.
