No such thing as a fair dinkum process at Essendon, especially not involving this man. On merit he is not the best choice, and everyone knows it.

That said, if James doesn’t mind putting himself through the wringer again it might finally give some people closure, then maybe we can finally put the saga in the past and move forward.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I don’t think there’d be a mass exodus of members, but I also think the club has completely misread the mood of a big proportion of the supporter base if they think him coming back would have the same sort of mass opiate effect as his appointment in 2010 did.

It’s a different world now, Essendon supporters are a whole lot more fed up and cynical about the club than they were in 2010, which is saying something as there was a lot of discontent then.

Sure, it’d sate the hard core types but there’d be a whole lot more middle ground types whose reaction would be either eye rolling or a pointed “you cannot be ****ing serious”.

in my mind we are so for away from success i'm happy to to just burn it all down.

and by burn it all down, re appoint Hird and watch the footy world blow up.

its the only value i get!

A lot of non-Essendon fans among those yes votes. Not so many among the nos.

Guarantee there will be and I’m a Hird fan. A lot of supporters still can’t get over what happened under his watch. Whether you believe he is to blame or not, we cannot go back there. Besides, he’s done what a 6 month apprenticeship as an assistant at GWS since coaching us 7 years ago..?
 
I’m his biggest supporter but I worry for him and his family and what the role entails and how it might end.

I doubt he’s the best coach available for us and I’m unsure taking the role is in his best interests. Not sure anybody wins if this happens.

If you looked at his coaching resume without his name on it, you'd never appoint him. So we shouldn't appoint him just because his name is 'James Hird'.

that's the important part. i'm not sure it would be wise to do it now. whilst i don't really care what the media or other supporters say, it would be a distraction to do it now

in the future? when he's done the hard yards as an assistant and more water has gone under the bridge? sure. i don't think he should be ruled out because of what happened.
 
I'm voting yes because I'm an accelerationist and I think we need to hit rock bottom and keep digging for a bit before this dumbshit club actually sees reason and gets it's act together

That was my thinking too. Let’s lean into being a meme club. Have some real fun with it. Could argue we already are with that 150 year pregame stuff 🤮
 
**** it - We’re never going to be the good guys, so we may as well be the best god-damn-bad-guys in the comp!

We’ll loose some of the namby pamby supporters, but gain a whole new hard edged supporter base that understand that grey is the best shade of black.
 
If Hird returns I'll plead for one of the 17 other clubs to accept me as a stateless footballing refugee seeking a better life.
 
I hope for Hird’s own sake that he rules it out soon.

Last time, the role directly drove him to a suicide attempt and our basket case of a club is still exactly that. For whoever takes on the senior coaching gig, it is going to be stressful, maddening, unforgiving, and if things don’t change, toxic.

I fear for James if he takes this on.
 
Personally, I think this process of finding the best coach is a bit of a sham to get Jimmy back. All of this has become so much easier with how the club has behaved over the last week.

No experienced coach will want to come to us, maybe some experienced assistants will, as they want a senior gig. But, then the club can say they wanted someone with coaching experience, not someone with experience as an assistant as they did with Truck. Well, Hird has coaching experience, so that box is ticked compared to an assistant coach.

However, just as there are a number of supporters who still support Hird, you can guarantee that there are plenty of influential people around the club (Sheedy and Dodo obviously), as well as coterie members that feel the same.

I feel as if they think that because he was a club legend, that he will unify the playing group and the club. He did ok with that last time due to his stature within the club/game. IDK, maybe he will, or, maybe it will break the club and we will spend the next 40 years in the finals wilderness.

The last member of the playing group that was penalised during that time may be off to the GC (If he is smart, he will be). So he basically starts afresh with a group of players that were not affected during that time, but, will be coached by a club great.

If Hird was to ever coach us again, the media and oppo supporters would have shat on us from a great height. Well, that's what they are doing now, so the club may think what does this outside noise matter. Lets deal with it all at once.

I'm not advocating for this to happen btw, but I won't be surprised if it happens, in fact I would be surprised if it didn't happen. This is all only my opinion, its just how I see the bigger picture, so don't come @ me.
 
If bringing him back causes Caroline Wilson to choke on her falsies, then bring it on!

Seriously though, if he came back and failed, the whole board must be overthrown.
