Excellent read.
I suppose being a saints podcast it didn't emphasise his time with us, but he was an obviously intelligent guy that Ross trusted to organise the defence.
That bit about leaving his man to rush to Ablett in the grand final was interesting, I remember his and Ross's first ever game for us against the cats when the game was in the balance and he rushed 30 metres off his man to smash a cats player at half forward that was going to win a clean ball in the open, it might have been Stokes, anyway it won us the game
He was certainly a limited player skills wise but he always gave great effort as Ross used to say. Don’t get the abuse piled on by so many so called supporters to Dawson and many others that pull on a jumper every weekend in the winter.

Zac Dawson is one of the greatest value players we have ever picked up. Selected for free in the PSD. Played every game when fit until we hit rebuild mode.

Dawson played many fine games for the Dockers but his, on occasion, total lack of confidence to take a kick was borderline ridiculous.

Was silly. He actually was a decent kick.
Dawson should be the best recruit of some time at Fremantle, under the radar. Him and D Pearce were next to free and played 80+ games each for Fremantle.
Allowed McPharlin to do his thing at CHB and was an ultimate clubman. Dominated so many bigger bodied forwards. Him and McPharlin got us oh so close in the 2013 GF.

Didn’t he “collect” Selwood in our 2013 final ?.

He could get away with the “unco tag”, like Clinton Wolf.

Saw a clip of this on one of the St Kilda threads as it has an anectdote about a training discussion between Kepler & Ross Lyon during his Fremantle days so I thought I'd track down the full podcast.

Not sure if its been posted before. Its about 5 months old, recorded in the week leading up the the 1st Round of the 2022 AFL Finals, but I hadn't seen it before. Kepler talking with a couple of dudes that are low profile to me - one seems to be a current WAFL player as there's a bit of WAFL discussed.

Some adult content but it gives a bit of insight into Kepler's personality and how he thought of himself as a player.

Wot ?

Dawson got owned by Gunston and lost us the game

Buddy - Lukey

Rough - Jonno

Gunston - Dawson

Was how they started I thought , I was sitting right in that pocket

Dawson got the hook after Gunston tore him up is how I remember it … but I’ve never really been able to bring myself to watch a replay
Ok, I remember passages of Dawson playing on Roughhead and Sutcliffe of all people on Gunston, but maybe I am wrong

Dawson was always on Roughead.
MJ weirdly was the spare man. Should’ve gone to Gunston. Duffield ended up on him

Dawson was on Roughy.

Man... If we had Ibbo/Clancee/Mcphee in that team instead of Sutty... 😭

I have said ever since that game that we win if McPhee didn't retire a year earlier and we had him to play on Gunston.

Look away now?

Anyone seen the snippet of the shitty annual Colin Young documentary ‘Show Me The Money’?
Logue looking elsewhere because there’s no opportunity. Players can be reinvented into multiple positions. Didn’t want to work hard.
Lobb saying the writing is on the wall. Wonder what’s that is referring to.
But better be ready for major Fremantle dissing by Young on the phone. He ll love the camera on him

I've said it a few times.... don't engage with this trash.

It only encourages them to continue it.

I actually enjoyed last years one when Colin wasn't on screen.

Dawson was on Roughead most of the match. There may have been moments where he was on Gunston though.

Two (of many) painful memories was the super soft free kick for an arm chop in the 3rd quarter to Roughead while on Dawson. And Gunston dribbling a reply goal from close-in on the boundary while on Duffield. They were both at critical stages in the 3rd quarter when we had the momentum.

Don't remind me of that free kick. Coupled with the BS 50 for Buddy, legit top 2 goal changing moments of the match. THEN on top of that Barlow is penialized for holding the ball whilst in a chicken wing. Go figure
