Just heard on 3AW

It is believed that ESPN is the front runner as it is owned by Channel 7 with Fox Sports 3 the the other likely option. There is also talk about TVN which also partly owned by Channel 7 but this is ranked outsider.

ESPn has the carp-est transmission ever...it's all fuzzy dammit!!

As Ive said before, if this potentially forces ESPN to beef up its presence in Australia thats good, possibly even an ESPN2 to accomodate more international and local sport, and a one hour loca nightly news service would be great, however in saying that yes it is a shame FFC is dead.

Fox Sports 3 will cover any games not on Free to Air. Just announced by Foxtel.

Thats not what they announced. They announced that if Foxtel wins the rights, the games will be on Fox Sports 3. If they don't, they could be anywhere.

Correct. Which means the whole thing has more to do with the viability of Fox Footy, than it has to do with any price that 7/10 are demanding.

There is a chance of no pay tv games at all. Ch 7 and 10 may do 4 games each including Channel 7 are intersted in doing the 4:40pm slot each Sunday.

Fox Footy channel to close
August 23, 2006

PAY television provider Foxtel will close its dedicated AFL channel at the end of the season.

While Foxtel is still trying to secure subscription rights beyond this year, it said today the Fox Footy channel would cease to exist.

Foxtel had been in negotiations with Channels Seven and Ten, which will take over the television rights from Channel Nine from 2007-11 in a record $780 million deal.

"The positions taken by Seven and Ten and the delays and uncertainty over the future have left Foxtel with no option but to close its dedicated AFL Fox Footy Channel at the end of this season," Foxtel said in a statement.

Nine's parent company PBL part-owns Foxtel.
