What a poor, poor effort from Fox Sports. The coverage is dreadful. They had the 2nd round called out in the background whilst they interviewed Scully and his MUM! They've continued the same into the 3rd round with current AFL players being interviewed.

Surely there are better times for junk like that? Like between rounds? I've switched it off and am now listening to the radio. Why have draft coverage when you are not covering the actual DRAFT!?!?

At one point they were reviewing the 1999 draft instead of the draft that was actually going on.

Piss week coverage and the count back was woeful as well.

I was so looking forward to this coverage and then they do that interview crap. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was screaming at the TV!! Interviewing Scully and his Mum then Scully again while the clubs were reading out their players. Even Luke Ball being read out was missed. WORST COVERAGE EVER!! I hope they get dragged through the sh!t for it and lose it next year to someone capable. I just switched off and listened to SEN online.

Yep, a very poor effort from Fox Sports tonight.

Having interviews while the later rounds of the draft was on was just terrible. It's like they thought the top ten of the draft was the only thing that mattered and the rest should bugger off.

Disgraceful effort. Fox Sports should be ashamed of themselves.

You could see the format they were trying to produce but outside the top 10 they didn't talk about anyone, unlike the NFL and NBA drafts where they actually take time to talk about each draftee.

Some free advice for next year. :D

10 minute introduction, including a soundbyte from the AD, Sheahan, and the coach with the number one pick.

Video montage of likely top picks (say 10) with generic voiceover.

Draft format:
1st round - 3 minutes per selection. Clubs announce selection at conclusion of 4 minutes. 2 minutes highlight package of player (with voiceover on background/style), then player is presented new jumper, shakes hand with coach and smiles for camera. While presentation and photos taken, commentators provide soundbyte on selection.

At conclusion of round 1, an hour has elapsed, everyone knows there first pick, etc.

2nd/3rd round - 2 minutes per selection. 1 minute highlight package, soundbyte, next selection.

4th round onwards - picks announced asap, scroll on bottom of screen, whilst interviews with top-3 players are played. At conclusion of each round, quick discussion.

....

Total running time = 180 minutes, including 120 minutes of pre-recorded footage/interviews/commentary.

Simple.

so WTF was that?

Not sure about it running for 3 hours though.

What a disgusting attempt at coverage of the draft.

Why, why did some complete idiot at Foxtel think that we'd be more interested in learning about the 1999 draft than who our picks were in the second and 3rd round.

And the crap they carried on with after Scully was picked. We all knew he was going to be one or two, do we really need to interview his mother while the rest of the draft is on?!

It was truly diabolical.
Here I was watching the bottom of the screen trying to see who was left, who was going where, and all the while they're talking crap about a draft that occured 10 years ago!

Absolutely shocking coverage, I've never been so disappointed in a telecast and I hope the AFL/Foxtel get a baking from the fans.

Anyone got an email address for complaints?

Utter manure coverage.

Get rid of Lynch & Bunghole.

Put Pickers & Shifter on to talk ONLY on the players actually being drafted.

Put Jonesy in a bikini.

Get It Right FFS.

Worst tv coverage ever.

It was like interviewing a drunk at the bar while the melbourne cup was run.

WTF were they thinking!
Sack the peanut producer. Foxtel sucks.

Fox Sports should be embarassed by that coverage tonight. Obviously wasn't there fault that the AFL wanted to do the 10-1 countdown, but the fact they didn't even show the selections being called out was just idiotic. I actually muted the TV, and listened to the coverage on SEN. Truly hopeless effort Fox Sports.

The worst part was that they were broadcasting to an audience of die hards. It wasn't like they were at the Melbourne Cup trying to keep casual viewers from flicking around by talking to celebrities.

Showed no respect to the kids who had been nominated - plenty of whom wouldn't have been in the room.

It was the most dissapointing tv coverage i have ever seen!

I was so pumped to watch it and they dish out that crap. Fox Sports should be suspended for shitness.

I would have liked to see shifter comment on each of the new draftees as they were being read out. WTF has the 1999 draft got to do with this draft? Truely pathetic effort and i hope Foxtel get bombarded with complaints. Do they honestly think footy followers would put up with that garbage?

My old man was yelling at the TV when they were interviewing Scully and ran off to listen to SEN. What a shit effort by Fox Sports honestly. I was hanging to get home and watch it and then had to put up with that lame effort. It actually used to be good. WTF was that 10-1 crap? It's a draft FFS make it feel like one. Demetriou is still annoying as hell.

Being overseas for the past few weeks and seeing the coverage football (as in soccer code) gets makes our AFL coverage look pathetic. In depth analysis with rare breaks and actual insight. I'm so pissed off at that shit coverage that Fox dished up. Hope they don't cover it next year. As if I care about Scully's mum when my team is drafting FFS!

Biggest load of crap ever !!!
The top 10 countdown was dragged out because the recruits seemed to be so far away and it took ages for them to get on stage. It was also a fizz as everyone knew who was 1 & 2,it was just which order.

Anyone else get the feeling Sheehan couldn't have given a fat rats about the conversations between Piggy,Pickers,Lynch and whichever guest they had at the time ?
He was trying to take notice of what was actually going on in the draft.

Obviously anyone at Fox Sports with any brains or common sense had gone on holiday. That was execrable. Did that text scroll at the bottom of the screen set a new record for smallest font ever? Not everyone has 65" LCDs.

Not sure about it running for 3 hours though.

The NBA Draft has 2 rounds of 60 picks total, and runs for 5-6 hours. If they want to make this a proper television event, 3 hours isn't unreasonable, especially on pay television. If people aren't interested/think it's boring, they're probably not watching in the current format anyway. I'm sure the diehards would stick around to watch the whole lot, as they do with the US sports drafts. Most people (even the diehards) don't know that much about/haven't seen the potential draftees beyond the first round, so it'd be good to learn a bit about a player your club is drafting with a little bit of footage/discussion about each player after they are picked.

every single person posting in this thread should send their complaints to foxtel. just telecast the thing fox.. we dont need a bunch of their usual boneheads hosting. it was shocking. let foxtel have it.

Although i didn't see the full coverage i did see parts of it where they had the draft picks on the bottom, which from a draftee perspective being drafted with picks 11+ was shit house.

I enjoyed the coverage on the radio by SEN as they broadcast the draft as a whole, but i would still like to see the how they did the top 10.

If I had foxtel i would have watched the top 10 then pissed off to go listen on the radio
