Foxtel - how atrocious has it become year after year?

welcome to the six monthly dance club. never not had a discount applied once threatening to leave. and if ever they call my bluff, bye bye and getting kayo to keep the sport content
It's pretty much painless really having to ring up, they know what you are after and it takes less than 10 minutes. I mean they even give a txt msg now telling you when it's about to run out.

Just have to consider if it's worth it when it's no longer 'needed' as the only option with a viable Kayo alternative.

Finally decided to bite the bullet and cancel FOXTEL to replace it with streaming Kayo, Binge and a couple of others.

We have two TVs in different rooms and one of them is a 2016 4K Samsung, which apparently doesn't support Kayo or Binge. Has to be 2017 or later.

Is there any way to get around this without purchasing a new TV or keeping FOXTEL? Cheers.

Edit - looks like Chromecast might be the way to go. Is it OK to do this through your phone (iPhone 13) or is it better to get a proper Chromecast device? Or do you need to use both together?

The latest Google Chromecast w/Google TV is $99 and will play Binge and Kayo on dedicated apps. personally I prefer my Apple TV4k for the ability to use apps from different regions concurrently but the Chromecast is good value for all your local needs

As an aside scroll right down the bottom of Binge and discover a heap of Foxtel live channels such as E!

Do the same with Kayo to find all the Foxtel Sports live channels

Idk why they don’t promote this more but it’s a great set of Easter Eggs

On Kayo do the live channels include skyracing?

Extended it for $43.50 plus an IQ4 box, any less I think I would have just finally pulled the pug.

When there's no footy or cricket it barely even gets used at all. Oh the extra NFL games during the regular season but that's really it.
Yep thats exactly my current price, due to expire in April and il do the cancellation bluff call again.

At that price, happy to pay the extra from Kayo for the ease, reliability and convenience of direct satellite TV, plus the other content is always handy when I'm just killing some time, or want the music channels, or there's a few shows I'll watch on demand every now and then.

Cheers. After doing some research, am I correct in saying that with Chromecast I will need to use my phone as well, but with Apple TV I won’t need to?

Foxtel response regarding not showing the trials...

"This will not be shown as it is being produced to a streaming standard, not a broadcast standard. We pride ourselves on our broadcasting and we only show live events which are at our standards. This decision is made so we can deliver the best product on Foxtel. - Jack"

what a joke...

no, the latest Chromecast comes with a remote and can work independently. That said, it has a small memory capacity so you can’t overload it with more than a dozen apps. Apple TV4k is (one of) the premium streamers, so has no such issue, but that comes at a cost $$$ comparatively

Thanks. Very helpful.

So the ‘best product’ is replays of games from decades ago that have been shown ad nauseum on Fox Footy, while trial matches are live on Kayo. Pathetic.

They could've at least put it on Kayo Freebies if it's just 'streaming standard'

id prefer they put the live channels up top so you can access it easily. i mean sometimes especially in the morning, i wanna hit up espn for live news instad of selecting sportscenter show and clicking live. first world probs.

IMHO get an apple tv. its great. and so portable.

Direct satellite channels and the ease and speed of changing between them and not having to navigate through an app will always be better experience than streaming with something like Kayo IMO and in my experiences.

The Foxtel sport package is mint.

However I'm paying $43 per month for that with Foxtel. Basic + Sport + HD. Also gives me FoxtelGo on laptop/mobile so can access when travelling.

Kayo would be $25 a month so basically I'm paying $18 a month more for the Basic foxtel package. I probably don't watch enough of it, although I do watch some things on demand when I'm bored or eating dinner.
This was my main concern when dropping foxtel, was how will streaming live footy on kayo go compared to foxtel. Maybe the vary rare hiccup, but by and large it's been pretty good.

Or an American company buys the rights and then cuts back on the coverage and only shows selected games. I've been following Celtic in the SPL and sky sports or whoever have the rights over there only show the odd game because they'd prefer to cover the EPL. It's like being back in the 1990s with AFL coverage.

I have a distinct memory of seeing highlights of melbourne vs Geelong in 1998 and it was basically one way traffic Geelong's way. I remember my dad saying, not too many melbourne highlights, which to me meant bad news. I should have listened to Dennis and looked away because melbourne lost by like 98 points. Ah the 90s.

surely we can use our foxtel account to get access to kayo streaming for the games?

Best way to let them know is via twitter/fb/insta. Make the displeasure known on social media and let them get some negative publicity.

I did trial Kayo, the user experience wasn't up to the level of Foxtel for me, and that includes some buffering issues, reduced quality when the internet has its ups and downs, and the ease of channel surfing.

I know that sounds really first world problems, and it is, but I'm fortunate to be able to afford the extra $18 a month that I pay, and the other content which I do watch at times.

As long as I can keep this deal, I'm happy to keep it going.

Interesting to see what quality it is. I've seen some pretty crap club delivered streams that are miles from broadcast standard. Maybe it's something like that?

Agree with others they could make this a freebie for Foxtel customers.

Fair enough, each to their own. Personally I have never really had too many problems with kayo, but as you stated 43 month is a reasonable amount to pay for that extra safety.

Nope. There’s a couple of sports that fall into the paid Kayo abyss (not on Foxtel but not on Kayo Freebies either).

From the slither of highlights I saw of the Essendon v Bulldogs game today, it’s an insult not to have this on Freebies. It’s a single camera stream you normally associate with state league matches.

After months....years of indecision regarding whether or not to cancel, I finally pulled the plug today.

Felt good.
I'm more interested in how long people have been able to pull off the cancellation bluff call to get a cheaper price before Foxtel call the bluff.

I'm currently at 2 years, with my current deal due to expire in April.
