Foxtel's coverage of AFL has been a disgrace so far!

Apart from Fox Footy, I've always had the feeling that Foxtel in general has a grudge against Football. It's Sydney based, for a start. It seems to be the only major media outlet in the country that calls puff-ball 'football', and I read an article by the editor of Foxtel's website during the Commonwealth Games, heavily criticizing the use of Footy players in the opening ceremony and doing everything short of calling it a sh*t sport. Obviously a jealous thugby fan. I emailed him about it but, surprise surprise, got no response.
And yeah, comparing the coverage puff ball gets on Fox Sports to Football is no comparison. Even over summer, they started showing some old Footy replays, but they seemed to dry up into nothing, in favour of wall to wall puffy-ball. Sad.

I agree totally with this. The headline story on the sports report of sky news is always Rugby LEague or Union, never AFL which i find very annoying. Still having said that i wouldn't be without my fox. I'm hoping their coverage will improve when the main season starts. Why can't they just bring back the footy channel? what about prorams such a white line fever, on the ocuch etc, are they coming back?

Sorry but I pay $60 per month to watch AFL. Whether it be live football, NAB Cup Replays or matches from 2006.

I don't pay $60 to see a game of cricket from some island 5000 miles away which features dud teams.

So on that note only AFL games featuring non-dud teams should be shown on Fox?

I love my footy as much as the next person, but most people enjoy more than one sport. If you deserve and demand all of these things, so do fans of all the other sports.

By the way, I'm loving the world cup coverage. Sure beats watching a lack-lustre Melbourne AFL match.

Seriously guys, come on!

Yes Foxtel's head office is in Sydney but the only customer contact centre is based in Moonee Ponds- Melbourne...

Sky is based in Sydney and will lead with rugby league however if you think Foxtel dont care about AFL, click that little red button to launch the Fox Sports News Active and in the scroll down menu the first topic is
AFL- obviously because they see this as an important code...

Relax guys, its not even Round 1

what douchebags some people are. who on earth would expect a television network to screen replays of crap pre-season games over live sport, and then highlights of that sport because its on at night. live rugby league, union, cricket etc etc. and you'd rather watch pretend footy!

Exactly- people just enjoy taking a swing at Foxtel at any opportunity. If you dont like it, don't subscribe, otherwise find some programming on the 100 other channels available, better yet go outside, do some exercise and when the real footy starts come back and stop your ****ing whinging...

I think a few of the foxtel zealots like Catman Forever and Eagles87 need to do a bit of explaining. They promised us the world via foxtel. Not be regarded as a 2nd string sport.

Its not like foxtel dont have content to show. What happened to the footage of the last 5 years ?

why are u insisting that they show footy now just to appease a few diehards with nothing better to do? i'm sure they'd rather please the majority of the subscribers who would prefer to watch live sport- not AFL matches that were on 5 years ago!

when are u people going to understand that fox footy channel is gone!?

The point I'm making is that Fox and the AFL were so quick to tell the world how good they were in getting the rights again for 5 years.

But their showing a whole 2 HOURS OF FOOTY between Mar 18-Mar 25 - 1 week before the season starts.

PATHETIC Foxtel.

How much footy are 7 & 10 showing during that same period? How many replays will 7 & 10 be showing during the week once the footy season has started? Foxtel has to look after all its subscribers, not just those who have subscribed for the purpose of watching AFL football. Fact is Foxtel will be showing more footy this year than either 7 or 10.

get a DVD or something,

plenty of sport on fox SPORTS, footy will be a hell of a lot better on foxtel than it is on channel "lets broadcast footy like its 1989'' 7

Unlike both 7 & 10 Foxtel have 3 dedicated sports channels

2 of which are providing significant coverage of the cricket World Cup (because cricket fans subscribe to Foxtel as well). The point is why would Foxtel need to show replays of old AFL games when they can be showing live coverage & replays of current sporting events eg the aforementioned cricket World Cup, NRL, Premier League soccer?

Foxtel will be showing significantly more football than either 7 or 10 during the home & away season. At the moment though, they have other priorities & generally they have an obligation to all Foxtel subscribers, in much the same way as 7 & 10 will still make sure they look after the fans of soapies, reality shows, kids shows etc.

Before the NRL season started they replayed a heap of rugby games from last year. The point which you fail to adress is that the NAB cup grand final was only replayed once while NRL games were all replayed more. Replays aren't the only thing anyway, it's the general shabbyness of the coverage.

How about sticking up for yourself as an AFL fan, instead of allowing the Sydney centric Fox Sports treat Australia's premier club competition like it's a second string sport from the moon.

If you dont like what foxtel are doing feel free to bring your foxtel box over to my place and set it up for me...i have to live with 4 games for the weekend :( two of them delayed...

Foxtel uses those 3 sports channels to give fans what they want - viewing figures for live sport like the cricket world cup or Asian Champions league football would be much, much higher than replays of AFL matches.

Are you paid by Football Federation Australia or something mate? I notice you fail to mention Foxtel's NRL viewing figures, which s**t all over those for soccer.

Foxtel paid a lot more for the AFL rights than what they paid for RL and soccer, obviously the main reason they would have done this is to increase subscriptions in the AFL states. AFL fans shouldn't have to pay $60+ per month for a shabby product

As an AFL fan I appreciate the fact that Foxtel have ensured that I have been able to see more Carlton games live while living in Brisbane, than was ever possible in the days before pay-tv coverage of AFL & will continue to ensure that is the case. That is what is about for me. Not having to wait until 11.45pm to see a Friday or Saturday night game, or totally missing out on a Sunday afternoon game if Carlton weren't playing the first of the double headers on Channel 9 (unfortunately at 4.00pm Channel 9 always showed the NRL) or Channel 7 prior to 2002.

This season the twilight games & Friday night games among others will be shown live on Foxtel instead of buried late at night after some crummy American drama show & the late night news. AFL supporters in Qld & NSW who do not follow Brisbane or Sydney have been getting a raw deal from the FTA networks for years. Foxtel ensure that these supporters are guaranteed to see their team either live or on replay, something the FTA networks have never guaranteed & never will guarantee. In other words, all 8 games either live or replayed on Foxtel, something that the FTA networks are not prepared to commit to.

I was just using tonight as an example  (and for the record i was just arguing how the NRL ratings are very good in another thread - mind you Monday nights game is the only sporting event to ever get higher ratings than the A-league grand final on foxtel)

Sure they paid a lot for AFL rights, but you seem to think for some reason that they should forget the commitments they have made to other sports? There will be a heap of AFL on foxtel this year,

Lmao, paying to watch world cup cricket <snicker> do you get a hard on when we smash Scotland or some other Nuff Nuff team? Who can set the next run scoring record vs a nothing team? About as fun as watching a bully pound the snot out of some weedy little kid:p

Why the hell are you other's whinging about it Foxtels coverage? If they got you on board they know you arent going anywhere for awhile so why the hell will they change their scheduling for AFL before the season starts. They will do the bare minimum they can to keep enough supporters happy to increase their uptake & no more, they arent a charity & the only reason they paid for the matches is to force you to join not so everygame was televised....so live it, lump it, love it

All I'm saying is that I've been totally ripped off these last 2 weeks with a shocking lack of AFL coverage.

Sure it will improve, I have no doubt.

But I'd rather watch NAB CUP replays than a boring cricket game...be it World Cup or Pura Cup.

you could always turn the TV off, get off your butt and go and do something else? Why don't you ring Foxtel and complain I am sure they will change their programming for you.
