Franklin is a better half forward than Ablett ever was

Slanted stats are slanted, after all Ablett debuted as a 23 year old for Geelong and Franklin as an 18 year old for Hawthorn. Naturally mature age players are going to perform better earlier on in their careers :)

BWAHAHahahahah.

My god you are a muppet. You answered it in the OP you twit, Ablett didnt average 20 touches because he was playing deep forward...

Played permanent deep forward for a lot of his career sure, but i'm talking about the seasons where he was claimed to have played as a half forward. Never averaged 20 in a particular season.

maybe you should measure him against Carey, how does he stack up against him podge? Vale another podge thread.

Carey played CHF for 90% of his career. Ablett played HF for maybe 50% at best.

28 & 6 is better than 36 & 5?

So goals are more important than touches?

That doesn't bode well for your comparison

Bizarre argument, considering there is no difference in the goal averages as half forwards that can't be accounted for by the career starting age of both players.

Players that debut as 23 year olds have a distinct stat average advantage over teenage debutantes, wouldn't you agree?

By the way the averages are 3.1 (and climbing) to 3.5.

What age did Ablett debut at?

So Ablett debuted at 23 and Buddy at 18? So Buddy has a 5yr head start on Ablett.

The advantage is Ablett's average in starting as a mature age player.

Maybe Franklin will achieve some things at an earlier age (i.e. Bnf at the age of 21) but nobody's using that as an argument for Franklin in any case.

The 1989 finals series was Ablett's high point.

Franklin hasn't proved to me he is superior to N Reiwoldt yet. Yes, I know he is having shit year.

Reiwoldt played a great 2009 finals series, but he didn't have enough juice in him to put in a big one in the GF.

Ablett picked up the Geelong team and almost singlehandedly got them into the 1989 GF. The Essendon final he played that series was amazing. Then in the 1989 GF he played probably the best individual finals game in history. The message from the coach was to kick it somewhere near Ablett, and he will do the rest. That was against the best backline of that decade.

When Buddy has a finals series like that, you might have a case.

Not a backpedal, just trying to get an accurate read on the stats. Mature age players have a stat advantage, this much is certain, therefore the 0.4 goal average difference is negligible.

lol, so your argument of "Franklin is a better HF than Ablett ever was" has now been reduced to stat advantages whilst being longer in the tooth..?

E.P.I.C. fail.

Selective stats, questionable time periods, now adjustments made for relative age, my god your twisting yourself into knots on this one.

Gonna start calling you pretzel.

Ablett has a total of 1 AA nomination as a half forward. Granted there was no AA in 1989 which was his best year, so i'll be generous and give him 2 AA noms as a half forward, in 10 seasons of VFL/AFL footy.

Franklin has two, and another already locked in this season, which means 3 in 7 seasons.
:)
He had three; 1984, 1989-90.

Prior to 1991 the VFL Team of the Year was the equivalent to today's All-Australian Team. The then All-Australian Teams were solely picked on interstate carnival performances and cannot be compared.
