I completely misread a tweet. Post deleted

I kid you not but when you said we are after McAdam, I had already slotted him into our forward line and fantasized about him winning the flag with Carlton. That was an incredible 3 and a half minutes.

Is it?

Ben McKay - grossly overpaid and a real injury risk.
Gresham - has his moments, but meh.
Goldstein - will be almost 36 by the 2024 season.

Do you really reckon any of these players will get the Cheats into finals, let alone a flag tilt?

Lloydy on 3AW defending the Essendon pick ups. as a few peed-off supporters and membership- burners are ringing in.

Surprisingly, Kane Cornes said yesterday Carlton will have done well if we get Elijah Hollands for a 2nd round pick.

Full
Pre season from Walsh and further improvement from our younger players
Binns/Hollands/Cowan/Lemmey/Okeefe I think we’ll be ok.

Next years trade and draft might be where we go hard for some free agents etc.

Max Holmes, Tyson Stengle, Ben Ainsworth, Liam Ryan, Liam Baker the ones I'd be looking at OOC next year

Yup can smell something cooking , perhaps next week may be eventful for us

Great update, does shine some light, your right there are more pressing targets and makes perfect sense too.

My two cents worth just on free agency compensation.

Band 1 should be for non finals teams only and should be pick 11 meaning all non finals teams get a pick prior to any free agency picks. If there are two band 1 picks or more then lowest finishing team picks first.

Band 2 should be for teams that finished in the finals and same qualifying criteria as band 1. Pick to be at end of first round.

Band 3 is same as current band 2 . Jon finalists get a pick after all non finalists have their 2nd pick etc.

Independent panel distributes picks and criteria is published before hand.

There’s so many good solutions, or you get rid of compensation all together.

Our rival football code the NRL have no draft, no trading and free movement after any contract.

Yet they have had more different premiership and more different grand finalists the last 23 years, than the AFL.

The sky won’t fall

Oh yes.

Out of all of those names outside JUH I’d offer Gulden a 10 year deal at whatever he wants. He’d get us to a GF easily that’s how good he could make us.An absolute star!

Incorrect on all fronts.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this is just so wrong.

If it weren't for SOS we'd still be on the float up to 8th for a season or 2 then crash merry-go-round.

He had the ability to strip the has-beens and b-graders out of the list. He traded for more picks and cleared salary cap space to allow us to build a list where all our good players would reach their prime at roughly the same time... I.e. now.

What Dodo is doing right now is more of the same as what hasn't worked for them for 20 years and is the opposite to SOS.

Ha ha bloody auto correct. I agree 100% on Yeo.

Our number one target should be either Berry or McCluggage as FA.
If we trade for a player Gulden, Rozee or Smith add a lot to our team.
I'm a huge fan of Perkins.

I dont think Berry even makes our team. Massively overated player. McLuggage would be unreal. I dont see Gulden or Rozee any chance of leaving. Smith the best possibility if Bevo keeps playing him out of position.

Put a side the contract those 3 would play seniors on our team so a team like Essendon it’s good , they gave up nothing for them mate
Cant agree with this.
Goldstein was once a great player, but he is old and slow now. TDK is our future and Pitto offers adequate support. Goldstein is after one last paycheck before he retires - and good on him for getting it. Happy for Essendon to pay him that.

McKay would be a terrible mix in our current backline and absolutely not worth what Essendon paid for him considering what we already have and our other needs.

Gresham would have been closer to addressing our needs, but he really is only an ok player. I'm happy with Martin, Motlop, Cuningham, maybe add Hollands. Would be nice to add a good small forward but not sure Gresham is the answer.

Don't think it would be at the top end, moreso guys like Berry, Henry, O'Connor, Ainsworth, Perryman, Smith, Zurhaar, Drew, Florent, Hayward

After a few chats with some nobodies, it would be nice to find a player with burst capabilities and can kick from outside 50-55…

We don’t have that weapon, all our mids struggle to kick over a jam tin…

Cerra is a beautiful kick but it’s not a weapon…

These same nobodies are already looking at next years FA/RFA while all the managers are on the same room…

Managers know the blues are cashed up next year…

I agree, our number 1 need is that xfactor/impact forward/mid type

Bailey, Papley, Jnr Rioli, Bolton types

I think our cap is better end of next year, than this year, but not sure it's enough to target an elite type

It will take an UFA, willing to come in on a lower salary
