I mean Ben McKay who had done precious little at the Roos, Goldstein at 35 years of age, and Gresham who Saints fans are glad to see the back of. Duursma is the main one who might offer something if he gets his touch back, assuming the deal gets done of course.
this - I can't get over this - he's just a backman who looks like our forward...............he dun nuffink?

Either 26 and Dow for 21 or a future 3rd.

If SOS thinks he can get him for nothing in the PSD, good luck. There's a few teams before the Saints that may see Dow as a good fit for free
Wouldn’t that work for Dow anyway? He still gets a contract, not like Voss has him in his plans, where ever he ends up he has a better chance to prove himself as he’s not pigeon holed.
If he’s good enough he plays - or am I missing something?

Of course that's good for Dow. The point was in relation to if SOS doesn't want to trade for him, the Saints run the risk of another club nabbing him

True, overall he has produced mostly bugger all, seasons 20 & 21 from memory was when he produced flashes of his best footy…
Injuries have been a big factor early days but the overall contract length and price if * ridiculous on pure output…
LoL ******* Good luck to Ben..

2017 - 1
2018 - 0
2019 - 3
2020 - 11
2021 - 22
2022 - 15
2023 - 19

Dow + 26 for 21 to us.
26 to Freo for Henry to StK.
Who says no?
That's actually a great trade scenario that everyone would be happy with.......well, except SOS of course who's never happy.
Gives Freo an early 2nd round pick which is what they stated they were after, and Aints effectively get Henry and Dow for Gresham.
It values Dow at pick 60, but gives us something we can actually use.

I was thinking that he could put a number on his head $ & contract length (not sure if u can in that situation) - if so he puts forward the terms as agreed with SOS & he either gets there or gets the terms he’s after.
Would be pretty rare for someone else to pick him up

If it's going via PSD Saints probably get him to nominate a bit more to make it more likely he gets through, which is if course better again for Dow.

We've lost 3 mids in the past 12 months. Setterfield, Dow and Ed. Not including Fisher. We need to pick up some mids either through the draft or free agency. Our midfield depth which was a strength is now weakness.
I wouldn’t say our midfield is weak from losing Setterfield, Dow and Ed. Neither of them were top performers even so to have made the prelim squad.

We have Binns and Carroll just waiting putting pressure on our midfield group so that’s a positive as both can play. Also if we do get EHollands I’d expect he will gain midfield minutes in 2024.

I do however think we need 2 more from the draft that can play mid or mid/forward. Charlie Edwards would be a great get and I’ve been big on adding mature recruit Shaun Mannagh.

I also think our biggest win in 2024 will be getting Williams back from injury and expect he will float through the midfield from time to time.

My only concern with our midfield is that it’s too one paced and we need some burst and x-factor in there and maybe that’s where Mannagh and Williams can come into play.

Carrol has shown very little, Binns has shown exactly nothing as a mid (think he will be a ripper but had 0 exposure as a mid)
Williams isn’t a mid, especially coming off a prolonged absence. Even Doc does sfa when he’s in the middle (stats don’t lie)

Really wish that anyone who can football a bit wasn’t then thrown up as a candidate to be a mid - it’s a specialist position, sure there’s some extremely talented small forwards who can rotate thru & kill it, but they are the elite (Papley, Greene etc) & an exception not the standard.

Im hoping E Hollands can come in and perform - but that’s hope, hasn’t got runs on the board but I think he’s an improvement on Cunners/Fog as a rotation

Cripps
Cerra
Walsh
Hewitt
Kennedy
Hollands
Doc
Carroll
Binns

Zac Williams ??

Plenty of mid options…we take another one in the draft or trade up to secure a more highly rated mid

2025 Campo twins…plus FA targets I think we will be okay

‘They’ve gone bang!’ Bombers ‘big winners’ as trio arrive, prized pick remains

Essendon are looming as one of the “big trade winners” after securing three players – and still managing to hold onto their prized pick 9 in the upcoming Draft.

It's already begun. 🙄

Montagna believes McKay’s inclusion at the Bombers will play a crucial role in their finals hopes – comparing the backman to Lions’ star Harris Andrews.

Binns and Carrol coming through tho. Hopefully one of them is big enough to handle fulltime mid role in the future?

I could see Binns becoming a balanced on-baller if he can add some size. Absolute ball magnet, good in tight, great disposal. Even though the talk is O.Hollands to eventually become a mid with Binns on a wing I could see the opposite. Hollands for me looks a lot better in space while Binns is great under pressure. Their respective kicking techniques contribute to that. Ollie has a bit of windup which gives opponents the opportunity to affect his disposal while Binns is great on both sides and has a more compact technique.

Binns & ZWilliams rotating in our midfield will give us some zip :)
