He's on league average salary...

It's the right decision too, he's not the same Fyfe we adored watching tear the competition apart anymore, that's the sad part. I was 8 when Fyfe debuted......I'm 21 now. Sad seeing him fall apart slowly.

Why would Fyfe retire on good money

Pride maybe?

He seems smart enough to know that his best now probably isn’t good enough. To many injuries have ruined him early. The lack of kicking polish really makes it hard to keep him in.

I don’t know if the comparisons accurate but it’s like in the NBA, once the big power forwards lose their athleticism that their whole games centered around they just disappear from the league,
Whereas the shooters can play for years as it’s an ageless skill.

And Fyfe can’t shoot

Reckon Fyfe is around for the off-field stuff as much as anything. Was an ear-opener listening to B.Scott comment on how he thinks the Bombers have too few veterans on the list.

Given Colyer and Wilson are gone, Hamling will probably join next year if not this, it leaves us with only Fyfe, Sonny and Tabs over 30.

I think it helps that many of our younger brigade are absolute pros, but I feel it never hurts to have a few around that have been doing it for 10+ years. Fyfe and Sonny both only missed a flag by a few goals too. They know what it takes.

Oh forgot he got two years. We definitely payed overs to keep him.

I believe that he is well regarded within the club for his mentoring / coaching, behind the scenes.

You can query his own onfield output, but his precence around the player group is highly rated.

Nat is going to give it one last go, if his engine fails to fire, I expect he’ll put his hand up. Bye.

Both Tabs and Fyfe are going down with non-contact injuries.

Which means there's likely some part about the way they are moving that's predisposing them to re-injury that the club haven't fixed yet.
think you'll find they are completely unrelated. Tabs has a bulging disc problem that you can fix with discectomy but also in the AFL environment can always be re-done (Priddis had the same and played through it late in his career); Fyfe overtrains and I have heard interesting diet habits.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. If a player is suffering consistent non-contact injuries to different parts of their body over a short period of time which is the case with both Taberner and Fyfe then there is almost certainly something biomechanical going on that we have yet to address with both.

I'm certain the club would be doing everything in it's power to address this too.

To be fair neither are you are likely right. You can cut discs out but that has limited evidence to ‘fix’ anything. There is evidence around nerve functioning and surgery, and a point leg related back pain in the medium term.

The the ‘biomechanics’ relationship to pain is even less clear and probable.

I’m sure the club is trying and each case managed as best as possible. Note that the prevalence of back pain is high in the general population and most ‘treatments’ demonstrate limited benefits.

the disc isn't cut out. It is trimmed to remove the bulge so it no longer presses on the nerves providing instant relief. My partner just had it. But, the scar tissue has to build up enough to protect the disc from doing it again. Not too hard in the general pop with proper rehab. Difficult for an aging AFL player throwing themselves around with all manner of twists and turns and tackles.

Cut = trimmed, so sama sama. As said there is some evidence for back related leg term improvements in the medium term (that’s over the natural history of the disorder what is to resolve). I’m not going to argue your experience. Suggest if you are interested and like a read check out the work of Prof Harris.

Diet habits? Do tell

Good news on Taberner. Only a minor injury and expected to be ready for preseason.
Great news but let's be honest - the guy has averaged 10 games a year for his career. He's depth at this stage behind Amiss, Treacy, and whoever we get in the off season. (Reckon we will try to get someone).
