Re: WTF! Freo Game! Umpires played on!

The Siren should have kept going until one of the field umpires acknowledged it, expect the AFL to lay the blame with the timekeepers and/or ground staff, as the umpires acted properly in the situation.

Baker was given a free kick for the late contact and the poor disposal, for TV viewers, refers to Baker's poor disposal in scoring a point and thus resulted in a cancellation of the advantage (Baker's original kick).

As a Saints supporter, I saw the siren count down to 0:00 when the ball was up in the air and left the room, and accepted the loss. We were then handed 2 points we didn't deserve.

I don't know what to say.

I hate Freo more than anyone, but there could not have been more robbed.

If by next weekend Freo don't have the four points then the AFL is a joke.

Dr. Turf just went nuts about it on 3AW regarding punters. If I had dosh on Freo I'd be up in arms about it even more than I already am. Michael Roberts said on 9 that the emergency umpire heard it - why didn't he run out and tell the field umpires that it had gone when there was all that confusion? Surely this is one of the things the 4th umpire can help adjudicate on when there's as much confusion going on as there was.

Incidently - if the siren DIDN'T go when everyone heard it, when exactly did it go? It was play on after the bounce, and play on after Baker's first kick. Baker took his kick again and somehow the game just ended? If the "clock" stops after Baker's first kick went through for a point, when did the "siren" that the umpires must of heard to signial the end of the game actually go?

They didn't win.
They may have if they didn't spend half of the last quarter trying to run the clock down.
No, I think we will keep the 2 points.

Open your other eye. You don't honestly believe that you deserve those two points.

If you have any of the class that I used to associate with you, you'll acknowledge that this is a farce.

You Are A Tosser.

If the positions were switched you would be going insane. You did not deserve the 4 points and you do not deserve the 2 points.

Unfortunately the game is not deemed to have been completed until the umpires hear the siren and acknowledge it by raising the arms. The question that needs to be answered, is why did the umpires finally call time after the free kick was awarded to Baker? There was no siren then, so what led the umpires to finally acknowledge the game was over? Theoretically the game could have gone on for another 5 minutes, 10 minutes, who knows until they found a bell or could make the siren heard.
That's a good point. Did they ever hear the siren?

How come all the Freo players heard it.

Dare I say the AFL will not change the result.

& The AFL's continued love affair with St. Kilda's chance to win a premiership continues.

I mean does any team that plays against the Saints gets more frees kicks than them? No.

Rules clearly state that a period of play can only come to an end when one of the field umpires hears the siren, not the emergency

You have hit an all time low now, any respect i had for you before this has now gone, you are now officially the biggest tosser ive ever seen, give freo there 4 points.

Re: WTF! Freo Game! Umpires played on!

I may be wrong but I think the siren is actually a signal for the umpires and not the end of the game. The umpire blows his whistle and puts both hands in the air to signal the end of the game.

Anyhow, although Freo may be considered unlucky it could have been worse if the free had resulted in a goal.

And let's face it, they dropped their game and started playing clock run down with half the quarter to go. Dumb move, they were playing well and should have gone on.
