A close game doesn't make it a good one.
The last couple of minutes were good but the preceding 90 were torture.
Exactly what we all said last week. Freo's game plan is a blight on the AFL. Ross Lyon football 2.0.

Can't even imagine having to support that junk week in week out when it's so stale and boring.

I'm sure it's been touched on already,, but what a bummer it must be seeing Hogan (a local lad) finally showing some of his true potential on a consistent basis at the Giants.
GWS actually have a game plan that plays to his strengths.

It's not like Freo don't have a good tall forward. Amiss is already a gun, for instance.

Right…who is Hogan surrounded by?
The best small forward in the league, a number one draft pick, and three very decent small forwards and Jake Riccardi.

Expecting GWS scores with a forward line that has Walters on his last legs, two 21 year old key forwards and assorted detritus is naive.

On top of that, I’d love some of our mids to kick some ****ing goals.
Serong running in and missing in the last 20 seconds in emblematic of how we’re travelling.

All that means shit if GWS can't get the ball forward without the opponent flooding back.

Longmuir seems to think the 2018 Eagles method of chipping it around half-back for a patient build-up is good for creating scoring opportunities.

it's not..

We created more than enough to win both games

Out of the 5 games they've played, Freo have failed to kick over 70 points in a game 2 times and only kicked more than 100 once(against North, who have no KPDs).

They've done well to limit the opposition scoring but they're failing to turn that into and advantage the other way.

Until they address their dire ability to kick a decent score, they won't be doing much for the foreseeable future.

Once Darcy's back, Jackson can add more up forward but unless they can work out how to move the ball faster to give their forwards more opportunities, it won't matter much.

It’s frustrating to lose two massive away games to premiership contenders where we were the dominant team around the ground. Our forward line is young and inexperienced and we could really do with a Liam Baker type to replace Walters’ increasingly inconsistent output.
Having said that, once it finally clicks at the same time for Amiss, Treacy and Jackson, the other 17 teams better look out because our defense is rock solid and our midfield can go toe to toe with any other.

Did you even watch the game last night? We were moving the ball quickly but kept making critical mistakes in the chain or bombing it to Ports big interceptors. We are currently down on players and have zero depth in the forwardline left. Tabs is useless and ruining all the synergy plus our smalls are taking turns playing poorly every week. Our forward entry’s were of higher quality than Ports bomb it game, we are just struggling to finish. Darcy & Freddie back will hopefully improve that but we need to recruit some more quality up forward to become the finished product. More games & consistency into our forwards will help too which should come with age.

So constant critical mistakes are the issue then? The couple of games I've watched has seen Freo move the ball quite slowly, giving the opposition time to get back.

The biggest indicator for me is only just scraping over the 100pt mark against North, a team that's been dominated by tall forwards all season so far. I get that they jumped Freo early but realistically, Freo are no chance of doing anything meaningful this year unless they can bump their scoring average up at least 20 odd points a game.

Beat us in clearances by 17 and couldn't kick a winning score. If that's GWS or Sydney they probably win by 50.

Freo get inside 50s but are almost always kicking to packs with the opposition defense already set due to the snail pace of their ball movement. Against the best defenses they'll be lucky to score 40 points as the only way you tend to get them is with fast ball movement to create one on ones via the chaos.

Carlton aren't premiership contenders mate. We'd be ranked somewhere between 5th and 8th. Still a couple of years away.

So the issue is we only just got over 100 against North? We were on the way to increasing our scoring at that stage of the year but have had to make some adjustments due to cattle.

We had plenty of fast ball movement vs Carlton and completely controlled the game. Our issue is the only 1-1 we could generate close to goal was Tabs v Wietering and we all know how that worked out. Tabs is the main problem atm with our game style but we have three injured talls.

A lot of the hot takes about game plan are rubbish. We are operating with about three AFL level goal kickers on the list in Amiss, Treacy and Freddy and two of those are 4 years away from being at their best. How would Carlton look if McKay and Curnow were 21 and 20?

There was at least 5 opportunities yesterday a decent forward turns into a goal but lack of talent meant they ****ed it completely.

The gameplay will stand up in finals, we just need some decent forwards to actually capitalise better on the dominance in every other part of the ground

Carlton have 2 AFL level goal kickers and we still try to get the ball in there to give them a chance. Freo have the slowest ball movement in the comp and while maybe it is for the betterment of the team or will stack up in finals... It's still god ugly to watch as a neutral. Even Rozee and JHF today mentioned how horrible it is to play against.

Stagnant, sideways, boring dross.

You have two goal kickers who are dominant and in their prime. How’d you go before last year when they weren’t?

We’ll look considerably better when they are 25+ and/or getting any kind of talent around them and we’ll score more as well.

There is no way JHF and Rozee said anything meaning they don’t like the way we play, just that it’s hard to play against and that works for me just fine

Stop making excuses. You've had the same low-scoring game plan for decades.

Oh, I don’t care if we kick 2 goals to 1 every game and win but we’ll score more with KPFs actually anywhere near their prime (just look at Adelaide and having a Tex who can move) and at least one more competent forward under 190cm and we’ll look a lot more dangerous. The shrieking about being bad for footy is hilarious and stupid
