Petracca was a passive aggressive little child, neither publicly came out and nominated a club? There was conjecture, but nothing from them?

Regardless, for every 1 in your example there are 20 of mine. Do you really think we have a real trade period? I have a coastal property near Uluru to sell you if you believe so...
I highly, highly doubt that the AFL manipulates the whole thing like a deep state actor - if so, Buddy Franklin would have gone to GWS.

Neither Petracca nor Oliver came out to publicly nominate a club because they knew the chances of getting there - particularly given lack of picks on behalf of their target clubs, Collingwood and Geelong - was minimal.

I absolutely agree that player managers are a blight, and not enough players are held to contract, but just because most players who come out publicly get to move, that doesn't mean the AFL just chooses it all.

They help plenty along and smooth things over.

Next trade period, unless they shorten it to 2 days, take stock of how many nominate a club vs how many get there
then for added fun, count how many trades come right down to the 'deadline'. As if this isn't manufactured...
