Haven't you heard Nick doesn't like clay full stop, that is why he never plays during the clay season.
I think he is legit injured - although you never know with Nick.

He has played 3 matches since the US open, which were in Tokyo in October. By the time Wimbledon rolls around in July it will be 10 months with next to no matches - I don't expect him to go deep again this year with no match fitness. The injuries are a shame for him as last year was a career best year for him.

Well he had that serious operation around the time of the AO and I think the recovery time was estimated at 3 months. So he was never going to be coming back during the clay season. Hopefully he is entered in the grass-court prelims before Wimbledon.

Yikes Korda didn't win a set.
Disappointing but at least he won a match, first match he’s won since AO. Didn’t play for months, added 7kg I hear during the time off. Hopefully he’s in better match shape for Wimbledon because he could do damage there. Would be nice to see him in a few warm up events.

Kubler loses in straight sets. Ouch. Europeans just love the clay.

Well Kubler has as much clay experience as just about any Aussie. When he had those five years or so of injury, the only surface he could regularly play on was clay (as it was kinder on his leg).

But just not his day today.

The recovery time was estimated to be 6 to 8 weeks - Something has gone wrong - Same issue with Tomjlanovics - Injured before the OZ Opena and has not been seen since - It's disappointing that the best Aussie male and female player have been out of action all year.

Just tricky and ugly for all involved.

Understandable for the Ukrainians to do this and I would not boo them for it. And I don't think the French who did boo quite put 2 and 2 together on why it happened. Saba was class in her interview afterwards but I also think Marta spoke well. Marta said in her press conference, "why dont you ask the Russian or Belorussian players who they actually want to win in the war and "Some of these players have a lot of money and could easily move their family to safety(very much to Saba)" It a very pointed question, and one I think most players would side-step and rightly so.

It is a tough situation for all the players to be in.

Bigger issue at play is how much longer will the ordinary folk support Ukraine in the ongoing war when it affects their bottom line - Such as employment, inflation, scarcity of goods, increased utility bills etc, etc, etc - The booing could be a small part of what I just posted.

Can’t believe Purcell is defeating Thompson lol Purcell is considered a doubles player at best but still Thompson is choking…though he is a break up in 2nd so see how far this match goes

Purcell has brilliantly games the system in 2023 by just playing the Challenger circuit - He actually won three consecuutive challengers in India during March and April - He's managed to get his rnaking up to 66 which sets a solid foundation for the rest of 2023.

The Medvedev loss will probably be the biggest upset in this year's GRand Slams. Especially, when you consider, Medvedev is probably the best performed player so far in 2023 and he just won the Italian Open on clay.
