Not to mention his grand total of 10 possessions between the 02 and 03 Grand Finals.
In all those matches a total of 6 goals.
I know I am going to get shot down - "stats don't tell the whole story etc"
But he touches the ball 4 times a quarter on average in finals and averages less than half a goal a game.
Sure he might be fine H&A performer but unless your Richmond, what's the point in having him.

He was just about best on ground in the 2011 QF and was good in the 2008 EF but yeah he has generally been poor in finals. Although I would argue that he wasn't that bad in the 2011 GF, certainly not our worst.

Varcoe certainly thought he was good.
I just can't believe his career is over. I like John McCarthy, but that's a seriously strange decision by Port. You can't have too many skillful players in your team, no matter how old they are. Leon would have slotted straight into Ports top 6 players for at least two more years Who cares if he's 30? Who would he be keeping out of the team?
I reckon Freo could have found a spot for him with Hayden retiring. Surely Ross Lyon hasn't forgotten Round 21, where an early lead by the Saints was taken away by Davis who pushed forward twice in 5 minutes to goal and how he kept them at arms length for the rest of the night, continually repelling their forward attacks. He totally destroyed the Saints that night, he was just too good for them.

He wouldn't suit Port at all. They are at the bottom and need to develop talent. What would be the point in having a 30 year old stopping that from happening for a couple of years. The only teams that should of got him are ones that need to top up and are going for a premieship. Those teams must of decided that he didn't fit in to their plans.

the guy took a risk and it backfired. Given the youth culture of todays AFL recruiters Im not really sure why he expected otherwise, especially given his price tag. If he wasnt going to play for the pies at 250k, then theres no way he was going to play for a rookie wage. Some WAFL club will strike it lucky.

He wasn't eligible to be on anyones rookie list anyway... so WCE/Freo would have had to delist another player to fit him on. (At least that is what the rule was.. unless it has changed again)

It clearly shows the big steps that the WAFL is taking to supersede the AFL as the premier footy league in the universe.
We have already convinced a dual AA and current AA player in Leon Davis to leave one of the AFL's premier competitions to join the WAFL.
This is how the VFL started going ahead of the SANFL...

plus Fevola...
Both would of made the 2012 season more noticably enjoyable no doubt, instead two useless duds will take their spots and be delisted at the end of 2012.
This has to be changed its terrible.

Even though he was the best back pocket in the comp he is due to start declining either this year or next, his body especially his hip seem to give him trouble all year. You don't draft players to have one more reasonable year when you're down the bottom or on the rise like the Perth teams, it's better spent developing someone else. He should have stayed at Collingwood.
Please. Your club could've kept him.

sorry but when I think of Leon Davis I can't help but think he is one of the most over-rated players the AFL has ever seen.
I always felt he played great against lower clubs but never really proved himself when it counts. I might be wrong though and I am open to someone proving me so.
Fev on the other hand has real star quality talent just has made poor decisions in his social life.

That is incorrect.
Freo had a pick in the pre-season draft. They used it on Zac Dawson.He therefore goes onto their main list.
Freo also made 5 rookie selections today.
WCE made 4 rookie selections.
Exactly, Leon left it too late to allow these clubs to make list management decisions to squeeze him in.
WC didnt have a PSD pick whilst Freo had already committed to theirs. I really dont know why teams make it public in advance who they are going to take in the PSD....surely it doesnt cost a cent to commit to nobody until the last minute and then make the call?
Its madnesss that neither WA club picked up Davis but its Leons fault for the way he managed himself during the entire period.

If Davis was 24 we would've drafted him in a nanosecond (although I wish we'd drafted Davis anyway).
I dont see how any of the WA or SA clubs he was prepared to go could pass on him. He was absolutely brilliant playing off half back last year. How could you not find room on Port or Freo's list for him? Incredible. I know there is a dozen Swan players I'd be prepared to drop for him.
