Makes no sense whatsoever for a Brisbane team to play "home" games for 4 years in another city and would require for most spectators to get there using multiple bus/train connections.

I have done the Metricon trip a few times, I am on the inner southside of Brisbane and from the time you leave home until you are tucked up in bed post game you are looking at 5 + hours.

I sold my car during covid whilst living in Sydney (didn't drive it for 18 months and after it got vandalised multiple times in the interim I cracked the sh!ts and got rid of it).

Anyway long story short it means I take public transport everywhere, including to Carrara, which is what the club and government etc will be encouraging everyone to do. And according to my Google timeline, last time I was there it was an 8+ hour round trip!

And I also live on the south side, close to good public transport options (buses and trains).

Yeah let's not do that.

She’s up there with one of the worst premiers of any state ever. Boggles the mind who and how people vote in such people much like Victorians who were bagging Dan Andrews for the Covid lockdown debacle, protested throughout the streets then just vote back him. As for Palaszcuk being voted in, if she’s the standard, what does it say about those that vote for her and yeah, not surprising nor I really care why someone like her would be interested in the Lions; she’s nothing but a stain.

agree. from a realist POV carrara ticks the most boxes. Gov owned, cheapest, lowest political risk and ready to go.

I can't wait to attend every home game just a 20 minute drive from my residence. Esp after being interstate the past six years.

Obviously emotions are injected in a lot of chat on here but from a logical POV it makes the most sense both from a risk but also financial POV. Just sucks for the Lions but maybe we can swing it in a way that the Gov can pay compo. Would be cheaper option than the ridiculous RNA showground option that's been proposed.

Apart from the purchase price, interest if you did not pay cash, petrol, insurance, registration, servicing, cleaning, depreciation value, paid parking, and not great for the environment, motor vehicles do have one advantage.

They can get you from A to B quicker than using some forms of public transport.

I shall assume you have not been to Carrara.
As i and many others have mentioned it is a big hassle to get to and from the ground.
Driving down the M1 and then choosing the next step in the journey.
Then you have free rail and bus shuttles if that is more convenient or somehow quicker.
But taking everything into consideration i think it is the best option for members and the club.

Regarding parking, remember we would be the home team.
The Suns (home team) members get free parking in the Blue carpark according to their website. See below.
Lions people pay for that same Blue carpark when we play away. I have only parked there once.
I believe the Suns members can pay to get into the Red car park but i am not certain. A Suns BF poster may be able to clarify.
However, the Red carpark looks too large to me to be just a players and VIP carpark.

There is also a big carpark in the "Gold Coast Sports & Leasure Centre" but i think it is only for those using the Centre.
I know of one other paid carpark ($10) but it is about a 12-15-minute walk from the ground in Chisholm Road near Red Rooster.
I used to park for free in Chisholm Road but last year the council added that road into the 15-minute precinct parking limit area.
I am sure there are other paid carparks that BF posters will know about.

The second image from Google Maps showing the cars parked in the Red carpark. There must not have been a game on that day as no cars in Blue carpark.
In the last image the Nerang rail station is circled in green. According to Google Maps it is a walk of 2 km taking 27 minutes.

I drive from Everton Park on the Northside of Brisbane and have tried various parking spots over the years.
For first time visitors i think the easiest is to drive down and park near the rail station and get the shuttle buses.
Would recommend that over rail from Brisbane unless you are drinking and have no designated driver.
Or pay for parking.

Parking is free in the Blue Carpark and there are free regular bus, train and light rail services for all ticket holders from 4 hours pre to 4 hours post game.

I've never noticed the end of the stadium opens up to Nerang river! Surely they could or could have used this to their benefit. Opened it up more, 'activated' the area. Get some lighting and better access through the area. Never been there but is that an idea or is it not practical. Seems from afar that they need a better game day experience including rail to the stadium

You don't appear to understand the funding model regarding the Brisbane Olympic Games.

I understand that funding for, say, the Moreton Bay Indoor Sports Centre in 2029 isn't going to magically morph into funding Car-rara parking for football fans in 2025. Therein lies your suggestion's massive flaw.

The Qld govt is attempting to palm off a big chunk of the bill for the Showgrounds, onto other parties, in order to upgrade it for the Olympics without using any of that $7.1b Brisbane 2032 funding ($1.9b of which is reserved for 16 "Minor Venues Program" projects, none of them being the Showgrounds or Carrara). I hope all Lions supporters realise that.

Yep, it's a lovely spot. Not sure if it's overly practical for the ferry's to operate down to the stadium in terms of transport infrastructure, but you could certainly make some use of it with a few cafes or bars down on a dock with a port for the ferries. I haven't paid too much attention to where the ferries operate, I think there's a station / port on Chevron Island.

Well we still call it Kardinia Park, and sometimes Docklands, and I don't know if someone has the naming rights to the Gabba but if they do I not only don't use it but have no idea what it is supposed to be!

I make a point of never using them.

The amount of people in Sydney who still have no idea what/where "Accor Stadium" is boggles the mind.

Also, its former name, ANZ Stadium, was in Brisbane when I was a kid.

So all these sponsors can take their naming rights and flush them down the toilet.

Lang Park, Carrara, Stadium Australia, Sydney Showground, Parramatta Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium, Docklands, Kardinia Park, Perth Stadium, York Park, Bellerive Oval. Easy.

What a shambles. With the revelation that the Brisbane Arena can not most likely be built over Roma St Station for the cost or on time and has to be moved,the Gabba blow-out and the apparent lack of any genuine preplanning for the relocation and dislocation of the Lions and Qld Cricket it is obvious this whole Olympics bid was nothing more than a political play and a lot of artists models. Its got out of hand and a hell of a lot of incompetency has been exposed.
I think we can all forget any talk of funding models. It's back to the drawing board. Whatever happens it's going to be impacted by the politics and public opinions in the lead up to the Qld Election in October.

Have to say the state government has gone from disaster to disaster at the moment, can anyone have any confidence for them to deliver any major project properly, let alone the olympics and multiple stadium rebuilds?

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has sensationally quit the Brisbane 2032 Games delivery forum and withdrawn support for the $2.7bn Gabba rebuild, declaring the Palaszczuk government has “completely lost its way” on the road to the Olympics.
The Sunday Mail can reveal Mr Schrinner has resigned from the Olympic and Paralympic Games Intergovernmental Leaders Forum, declaring the state government’s “ham-fisted and foolish attempt to extort Brisbane ratepayers” to build a new $137m boutique stadium at RNA was the final straw for the extraordinary schism.

He said the Games had become “more about overpriced stadiums rather than the promise of vital transport solutions”.

The bipartisan bid from the LNP Lord Mayor and Labor Premier has been the cornerstone for the pitch to host the global event, but Mr Schrinner declared the government had “completely lost its way on the road to the Games”.

Mr Schrinner’s salvo comes after the government also spooked cricket and AFL stakeholders by demanding they chip in for the new RNA stadium.

He said the bungling had “put the promised legacy for our city, our region and our state in serious jeopardy”.

“Ever since the Premier and I travelled to Tokyo together to secure the 2032 Games, I have been a committed team player, despite numerous setbacks and political differences. I have done this because I strongly believed that only by working together can we stage the best-ever Games.”

Mr Schrinner’s bombshell resignation will send shockwaves through the government already grappling with wilting support.

Critical support from regional voters has also been jeopardised in recent months amid fury at the government’s costly commitments to host the Games in the South East, and Mr Schrinner abandoning the forum will land another blow to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk ahead of the election in October next year.

“Hosting the Games is a privilege,” his resignation says.

“But this sad episode is just the latest example of the state’s determination to use the event as their own personal political plaything.

“First was the state’s last-minute decision, without consultation, to redevelop the Gabba for supposedly $1bn and then every decision that has happened with the Gabba since. Then came the state’s decision to junk the promised independent co-ordination authority that was supposed to oversee Games infrastructure planning and delivery.

“Friday’s farcical demands over the RNA stadium aptly demonstrated that the state is not interested in teamwork and that the Gabba rebuild should be independently re-evaluated.”

The shock announcement comes as The Sunday Mail can reveal the extent of the furious response to the government’s demands for AFL and cricket to contribute to the $137m RNA stadium, with a senior source close to the negotiations saying the proposal will “send Queensland Cricket broke”.

“Queensland Cricket does not have the borrowing capacity to make a financial contribution to a temporary home at RNA for cricket which would normally be played at the Gabba,” the source said.

“Why would Queensland Cricket, even if it could, borrow money to invest in a venue that it doesn’t own or lease, or will not use beyond a displacement period?”

I hate politics talk on here, but we’re are not well represented by politicians in SE Qld. To paraphrase the seminal ABC comedy The Games, thank God we’re not expected to host a global sporting competition in the future.

The acrimony between the Qld Govt and BCC has been ridiculous in the past 5 years and that it has not been at least partially repaired in that times speaks to the maturity and priorities of both entities.

As much as this whole debacle by the state government has been botched, Schrinner and his crew having a public dummy spit for political points is reflective of what happens when any political body is allowed to govern almost unchallenged for long periods.

Yeah agree 100%, I understand the State Government not wanting to roll out endless streams of money to every inconvenienced stakeholder. But they have tried to play faaaaar too cute by attempting to wedge those stakeholders with this announcement.

I think Schrinner is justifiably angry at being played for a fool. They haven’t been acting in good faith on this, they have clearly been planning it for a long time.

Palecek’s non-confrontational “I am not Campbell Newman” tactic has served her well her whole time in power, but it’s never going to work in a big complex issue like this. It lets her opponents run away with the narrative completely unchallenged.

It has left them extraordinarily weak and has created the perfect opportunity for Schrinner to play the politics his way.

Think it has all the signs of being the LNP mantra for years. ‘You can’t trust Labor, look what they did with the games!!!11!!!’

Doesn't seem very genuine, does it? He's up for election in three months, it seems like a transparent attempt to leverage Palaszczuk's unpopularity for his own benefit. I think it'll work though. And because BCC are necessary for this project to go ahead, it won't.
