This is a correct take. Close to the worst place I've ever watched live sport from - and that includes the very back of the old MCG Southern Stand with my knees tucked under my chin.

How was Bradman's debut from the stands Rip?

This Gabba precinct is looking better and better, article from a few days ago >

The 1.3-hectare site is located on consolidated land bordering Hubert, Stanley and Reid Streets directly opposite the Woolloongabba Cross River Rail Station.

Last month the government proposed a plan to expand the existing Woolloongabba Priority Development Area which will cover significant parts of the Olympic Stadium precinct, including this site.

Traffic around there is going to be horrendous for the next 8 years.
I'll be sweet, I cycle along the Stanley Street bike path and further up Stanley Street on the footpath past the Gabba on my way to Yoga and Pilates class... although I suppose that will probably be disrupted as well, I may have to find an alternate route.

Not strictly Gabba upgrade news, but apparently we'll be sharing the Gabba with the Broncos later in year while Lang Park is being used for the Womens World Cup. The squareheads are using the Gabba for games on July 1 (Lions at home to Tigers that weekend), July 27 (Lions away) and August 11 (Lions at home to Crows). So if you're watching those Lions games and wondering why the faint square markings, and the damaged turf, that's why.

I hope they clean all the human feces, vomit and piss off the stands after the Broncos fans get done with the Gabba. Its gonna be like walking through a dog park in Woodridge trying to dodge all the filth.

Apparently Jake Anson is due to come onto the Roar Deal within a couple of weeks with news on where the Club is likely to play during the Gabba re-development.
Dom’s take at the moment on things that he has heard is that we will be stationed at QSAC because of cost.
The cost to prepare QSAC in comparison to the RNA is roughly half the cost to develop at RNA and that is why he thinks the decision will be made to go to QSAC.

Unless there is a strong long term business case for QSAC I’d prefer we just play at Metricon or Springfield.

The amount of money that has been spent or committed in this country to stadium developments is ridiculous

Costs has to be a big factor considering the Government is coping it over the Gabba costs.
A decision needs to be made soon so it can be budgeted for, and up and running before the Gabba rebuild starts.
Get that decision out of the way now, as their will be some ill will from athletics officials over the decision seeing they lose their main track.
They still have the 2nd track unless that has to closed during construction, but that is unlikely.

Then later in the year this will be mostly forgotten as they will announce the successful tender for The Gabba rebuild.

The one that really gets me is St Kilda's move to Seaford.

$3.5m in State Government funds, and $3m in Council funds, for the initial move.

Then $8m in State Government funds a few years later, when St Kilda decided they didn't like it any more and moved back to Moorabbin.

Frankston City Council apparently then had to pay more than $2m to repurpose the Seaford facility for some kind of local use.

That's an awful lot of Government money to protect the Saints from their own stupid decisions.

From what I have heard from some reliable sources (IIRC one was Roar Deal) Springfield is almost zero chance.

I detest the idea of Metricon, getting there from Brisbane takes so bloody long with having to go car - train - bus, night games most would not be getting home till well after midnight.

I thought the RNA was getting redeveloped anyway for the Olympics.

There is a clear use case for QSAC right in front of your nose. As soon as Tasmania gets their team we are going to need a 20th team for an even fixture and extra game for TV revenue.

Everybody please welcome your 20th team, the Nathan Buckleys. Based at might QSAC, they will have a Cleveland Brownsesque type team identity based around a significant player/coach who started all those years ago in Brisbane. I cant wait to done the brown.

LongLion luthor Ray Button I didn't hear all of this as I was on the field taking photos, but did the guide last night say that the Lions were looking at selling a home game or games to Perth while the Gabba is out of action?
Yes that was mentioned as well. Said it was one of a few different options they were considering.

I imagine they expect that membership will take a hit when based at what looks likely now to be QSAC, and this would be a way of making up the shortfall. It would be galling to have to sell it to the ground where we have probably our worst record historically though.

Upside would be to take a Vic team on a long road trip as well.

Would much prefer that the AFL give us some backing to seek some home games to Marvel or the MCG for the VIC fans.

I wouldn't mind a game or 2 at Optus Stadium, I used to love Perth, went for holidays there 3 times in the late 70s early 80s, never been back since.

Would make a good footy/touristy weekend.

Maybe play two games back to back there... like the Suns do with Darwin? Easier travel load on the lads that way = more of a home ground advantage.

Surely they are not going to spend tens of millions making QSAC suitable for 35k Lions fans, then play games elsewhere. And Perth would be poor from given the Fitzroy heritage. Playing Swans and Tigers @ Marvel makes more sense, but only if they don’t get QSAC up.
