Gout Gout will be 24 for the Brisbane Olympics after competing in LA as a likely medal chance at 20 years old. We could be seeing Bolt’s records beaten at our games, to one of Australia’s own.

Imagine if we were keeping QSAC for that moment 😂 We need an 80,000 seater for that
For it all to go to his head and he fades away to obscurity.

I can see it now, Gout Gout defends his 200m Paris Gold on night 9. Throngs of Aussies in ecstacy leave Qsac for a bit of a celebratory jaunt around the cemetery. Few pop in to baby bunting to get a head start on a nursery as the missus is in a bit of a mood seeing those runners. Others drop by the home-maker centre to spoil themselves on some remade hand rolled mall sushi. Brisbane 2032 will leave its mark on the Olympic movement.

Didn’t need a new stadium
No but imagine the embarrassment if that crap hole is broadcast around the world for our Olympic stadium.
Not to mention the lack of spectators that get to witness the moment with that pathetic capacity.
Are they even going to be able to park enough generators in the cemetery to run the broadcast equipment?
Even the Gabba can't run broadcast equipment so they have to pack it full of generators....imagine Qsac!

No.

This massive reach underlines the success of the Paris Games, with over half of the world’s population (8.2 billion) tuning in to witness the performances. The study further estimates that they captured 84 per cent of the potential worldwide audience (defined as those aged four and over with access to the Games) for the event. This record-breaking viewership reflects the growing global appeal and power of sports to unite people from around the world.
........................................

Confirmed:

  • Each viewer watched an average of nine hours of coverage, a 20 per cent increase compared to Tokyo 2020
  • IOC’s digital platforms and social handles generated 16.7 billion engagements, a 174 per cent jump on the past Olympics
  • Olympic athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Federations (IFs) and Organising Committees all added a combined 85 million followers to their main social media handles
  • Internet searches related to Olympic sports and the Games went up by 200 per cent compared to Tokyo 2020
  • Paris 2024 generated an estimated 412 billion engagements from 270 million posts on social media platforms, a 290 per cent increase on the previous Olympics

no, I went to Paris just for the olympics, stade de France 80,000 people two sessions a day at the athletics was epic, watching Ariarne win 400m free night 1 was the greatest sporting night of my life until a few weeks ago

you clearly don't like fun

not to mention a new stadium is required irrespective of the olympics

Agree with last. Stadiums etc appropriate for the community after the games are gone.

Those IOC scoundrels made too much money in the past promoting some dick measuring contest.

Doubt whether those watching on TV can make out what is gold plated anyway.

In fact in the week or two prior to the games there’s so many journos mooching around justifying themselves so they write negative stuff instead

No.

And yet Brisbane had negligible competition to host? Something not adding up

Maybe the difference to Tokyo is the US and Europe friendly time slots

"Negligible" is pretty reductive. Plenty of cities/regions were seriously interested - Qatar, Indonesia, Germany, India and Spain had serious eyes on hosting.

There was a period there after a few very ordinary Olympics hosted in I think Brazil and China, where the games were on the nose. That's when Brisbane took the opportunity and won the bid. Since Tokyo did such a great job during covid though (typical Japanese), they reestablished their lustre and became popular again. So Brisbane was very fortunate and will now cash in.

I've noticed that people who want to piss on the Olympics have decided to interpret the new bidding system (multiple expressions of interest, the IOC picks a preferred one to proceed to a formal

Gout is simply too good for that. Once he corrects his poor starts .. insane.

There will be a lot of noise from people wanting to ride on his coattail that might distract but there will be a lot of genuine legends who give him and his family support and contacts that will help manage the impending fame. Or, after this week, simply the fame.

Soon as you hear someone say "Brisbane only got it because nobody else bid" you have your little oh-no-not-this-shit-again sigh.

Guilty. I guess the IOC did clean up their act

Counter with ‘woa if we don’t spend more and more and more the world will look down on us’

It’s great the olympics is becoming responsible

there would shortly be clarity about how stakeholders and residents could have their voices heard.

Not shortly enough for Save Victoria Park spokeswoman Sue Bremner,
.......

Those in favour of a Victoria Park stadium were also at a loss. Arcadis Brisbane Games and legacy lead Paul Allan,
“The terms of reference are there, but I’m not sure how they’re going to [proceed],” he said.
......

“We’ve been wanting to stress to the review just how important a Perry Park legacy is for the state and the sport, but so far we’ve been unable to find a way to lodge our submission.”

Not sure the relevance to our re-build but interesting watching the discussion about a re-build at its original site compared to a new re-build. The obvious difference is that as a club, we have limited say over what happens compared to a club building its own stadium.

People can now have their say on the 100-day Olympic Games infrastructure review

ByFelicity Caldwell

A website has been launched to allow community members, business and industry to provide insights to the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority, as part of its 100-day review.
The public consultation period will run for almost five weeks until January 10, 2025.
Loading
The authority’s interim CEO, David Hourigan, said he was looking forward to receiving submissions via www.gamesreview.com.au.
“The review is being informed by the public submission process – as well as targeted consultation and relevant advice from stakeholders and experts,” he said.
Last week, reporter Cameron Atfield reported the authority would “imminently” open its doors to public submissions, while Save Victoria Park and other groups questioned why more information about the process was not already available.

The FAQ section of the portal says March 8 will be when the review is handed to the Qld Gov.
The LNP government will get a draft of this report on or before 22/2/25. See below for reasoning.
Thats not much time considering the submissions close on the 10/1/25.
However most decent submissions will be sent in the next week or so now that it is open.
