If Vic Park concept gets the nod i believe it will feature a public Private Partnership like Perth. I predict the Gabba will be redeveloped after the Games into a mixture of High rise accommodation in a Parkland setting around a Village Green sized oval providing incentive to the Private Developers. There will be a portion of Public Housing required. There will also be more High rise Housing built on the RNA site (Valley end)utilised as the Athletes Village for the Games and purchased by the Govt for Public housing thereafter. I think I might be dead for this but it would transform inner Brisbane.

If you can't build on massive parkland that was previously inaccessible to the public anyway (golf course), where the hell can you build without complainants?

Also there argument regarding close vicinity to a hospital, the mcg is right near the epworth and st Vincent's. I literally use to park in the epworth carpark for games 😅.

Agree with you on making use of land that has forever been exclusive to golfers until a few years ago.
Victoria Park needs to be a better place for all Brisbane residents and tourists to use.
The BCC Masterplan + a stadium will be fantastic use of the land.

Regarding the hospital i disagree. I think it can be sorted out with Queensland Health concerns as Arcadis had mentioned.
You can't really compare those two Melbourne hospitals in relation to Victoria Park and the RBWH + STARS hospitals.

In Melbourne there is plenty of greenspace and distance separating the MCG from both hospitals.
In Brisbane you cross the road from STARS and RBWH and you are on Victoria Park and about another 100 meters to the planned warm up track. The planned stadium spot is a reasonable but not long distance away from the warmup track.

The MCG was built before the two hospitals. I doubt the MCG complained about them going up in their precinct.

The RBWH in Brisbane is by far the largest hospital in Australia with 1000 beds.
Then throw in separate whole buildings dedicated to cancer and other disease research
Attached literally to the RBWH is the relatively new STARS (Surgical Treatment And Rehabilitation Services) hospital facing Herston Road. It has 182 beds, 100 being for rehabilitation.
It is a specialist day surgery hospital but has the beds for very short stay after surgery and rehabilitation.
Thats a total of 1182 beds. The next biggest hospital in Australia is the Gold Coast University Hospital with 930 beds.
St Vincents On The Park - 84 beds
Epworth Richmond - 626 beds
Total 710 beds.

If Victoria Park is preferred i think they will sort out any hospital issues but there will be issues.

Adrian Schrinner endorses stadium and green space at Victoria Park
The final report from the 100-day Olympic infrastructure review is expected to be completed by March, with Victoria Park once again in the spotlight for a stadium.
Brisbane City Council Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Shane Doherty on 4BC Summer Drive, “What’s in the middle of Melbourne’s central parkland area? A big sporting precinct.”
“It’s amazing and you can just see the way that people love that, and so I guess from my perspective it could work in Victoria Park but we have to make sure that we retain the vast majority of the park as green space and I think that can be done.”
“I just think there’s ways you could minimise any kind of impact on green space and just create an amazing destination, and so the stadium itself would be a destination but the parkland around it would be a destination and I think it could work really well,” the Lord Mayor said.

A good interview.
Not sure if Gary was playing devil's advocate in regard to The Gabba on a few things.
But he is right on the travelling distances to the proposed VP site especially for older and impaired people.
Walking from Exhibition station and Roma Street station is okay for a lot of people. The Valley station also an option for people but Central is not an option. The more options after an event the better.
This is why i have proposed a new rail station (city side) at the stadium site. Separate transport funding from Olympic budget.
Funding transport was also mentioned so it should not be a big deal to get done.
If you are going to spend $3-$4 billion on a project you need a closer rail station to ensure its long-term viability.
It also gives people more options after the event.

Costs ?? The Hamilton project mentioned $200 million for a new station. Peanuts in the long term in a growing city.
Will also service the 2 big grammar schools and everyone on the Gregory Terrace side.

It appears that Schrinner thinks 1 stadium is enough on the site and i agree.
Two or three just makes it so much harder to get approved and more protests likely.
Easy enough to imagine Arcadis plan without the other two venues. Just less greenspace going over the ICB & rail line on the hospital side.

Just from speaking to people on the Vic Park option, the Brisbane Bold option with the stadium, Brisbane Live, & the swimming complex is the proposal they think the Vic Park option will entail. Having only the stadium on site, while retaining the majority of the existing Green Space + proposals in the Master Plan, is hopefully the option they go with.

Further on the Arcadis walking times on their Victoria Park plan.
I put the below in as part of my submission. Also pushes my thoughts for a new station.
When looking at the times people will say that's easy enough to do for most people.
It is really about making the VP site as accessible as possible. A new rail station will achieve this for a stadium and the area in general.

The King Street dining precinct is the same walk time as Exhibition station being around 17 minutes.

Public transport in convenience order. Which one or a combination of both depends on where you come from or going to.
Rail: New station VP, Exhibition, Roma Street, Valley & Central a long last
Bus: Herston, RBWH, QUT. & various smaller stops along Gregory Terrace & Herston Road.
