The Crisafulli government’s 100-day infrastructure review has revealed the former Labor government allocated just $155 million for construction of Brisbane’s Olympic village, less than 1 per cent of the estimated funding required.

No one pays the builder of their dream home all the money up front just because they can.

The LNP are still in opposition mode and need to change quickly.
They should be worrying about costs blowouts on their watch not on what has yet to start/progress.
All the athletes' villages are hopefully costs neutral. That was the plan anyhow. Sell the assets after the Olympics.

The LNP can easily up the budgeted figure in the mid-year budget if they think it is warranted. Also change forward estimates. Thats the job of the new treasurer. Let's see what he actually does.

On the 13/12/2024 an audit report on the Brisbane Olympic Games was tabled in the LNP led Parliament.
The auditors mentioned the villages, but no mention that money allocated was a concern.
No big money allocation with be in the budget until 2026/27 when construction is expected to start.
The budgeted money will increase as construction gets underway, peak then drop off towards the end.
Unless it ends up being a public/private deal.

Managing program interdependencies​

Many of the programs are interconnected. The completion or success of activities or initiatives is dependent on or impacts the completion or success of another. For example, transport infrastructure and planning must be designed to align with the sustainability and legacy objectives of the games. Entities need to identify these interdependencies and manage them effectively to prevent delays and conflicts.

We reviewed the interim briefs for each of the 10 programs and found that some captured appropriate detail about their dependency and impact on other programs. Others lacked detail about interdependency and impact. These are interim briefs, and the entities are still refining them. The games authority is currently developing a risk management framework to manage interdependencies effectively.

Progress on venues and villages​

The games authority has developed its construction timeline for the venues and villages and continues to update it as planning progresses. There are 37 competition venues for the games. This includes:

• 6 new venues
• 9 upgraded venues
• 20 existing or temporary venues
• 2 interstate venues.

Most new and upgraded venues are currently undergoing project validation reports or business cases, with construction expected to commence in 2025 and be completed by 2029. The villages are expected to begin construction in 2027 and be completed by 2032.

Approximately $999.2 million of funding has been allocated to 8 minor venue projects. The games authority has commenced the procurement activities for 6 of these venues, seeking tenders from private sector contractors. These venues are located across Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Cairns, Moreton Bay, and Logan, and include the Logan Indoor Sport Centre and Moreton Bay Indoor Sport Centre.

The games authority is undertaking a 100-day review into the games’ infrastructure and transport needs. It is currently subject to a ministerial direction requiring it to temporarily suspend all planning and delivery activities related to potential venues (except for the Brisbane Arena) until the Queensland Government has responded to the review. The review is expected to be delivered in March 2025 and will help inform future decisions.

Former premier torches Miles, LNP over Olympic stadium fight

Former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has torched her former deputy and successor Steven Miles, as well as the current LNP government, over preparations for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
Speaking in her strongest terms since election night last year, the agitated former premier said she was shocked, annoyed and “quite sad” that the Games preparations had become a “huge fight over stadiums” and a “political football”.
“I’m absolutely shocked at the state of this. If I was at the IOC [International Olympic Committee] at the moment, I would be saying, ‘What is going on Brisbane?’” she told Nine’s Today show on Thursday morning.
“When I left, we had a plan, we were sticking to the plan and the tenders would have been out now for the Gabba.”
Palaszczuk said planning and construction would already be under way if her plan to rebuild the Gabba remained locked in.
“I’m absolutely shocked at the state of this.
“Everything’s getting unpicked. I often describe it as like, if you’re knitting a sweater and someone pulls a bit of wool, it’s all going to come untangled and everyone is pulling bits of wool out of this sweater.”
Palaszczuk also revealed she had been told the LNP government’s Olympic review committee had already decided to go ahead with a Victoria Park stadium.
“I’ve been told the committee has actually already decided it’s going to be Victoria Park. It’s got no transport, it’s going to cost a lot more, billions and billions and billions of dollars that Queenslanders don’t have at the moment with cost-of-living pressures ...
“And I think there’s going to be a lot of outrage about the last piece of pristine greenness in our city being ripped up for stadiums.”
She said she had held her tongue about the Miles government’s decision to use the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre at Nathan as the main Olympic stadium, which she described as “an absolutely ridiculous idea”.
“There was a plan, we had 80 per cent of our stadiums locked in and, frankly, I’m pretty annoyed about how it’s turned out, it actually makes me quite sad as well,” she said.
“Let me be very clear here, time is running out.
“Under the former plans that we put in place, it would have been completed by 2030. Now we’re going to be pushed right up to the line until 2032.”

It is a reasonably good submission in pushing your own sport and not worrying about what happens to other sports & venues.
Quotes lots of figures mostly pre the world inflation crisis.
The one thing i did get out of that submission is not enough training venues for football.

They used the MCG for soccer in the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The GF was bought forward to Sep 2nd with the Olympics starting on Sep 15th. I can't see how the AFL will give it up without losing big revenue in 2032.

A lot of venues on the Q2032 Government site are now marked "to be determined" as is Lang Park.
But it was to hold soccer finals and Rugby 7s.

After the Quirk review was rejected, they then added opening & closing ceremonies to LP which i found strange as i doubted all could be done at the same venue. I don't think there was any mention of Soccer and Rugby 7's moving

I've been thinking about that figure since I read that article. I cannot comprehend how a Vic Park precinct, even if we followed the Brisbane BOLD proposal, could cost double the confirmed public funding.

The only way that number makes sense is if the proposal sees a consolidation of pretty much all of Brisbane's sporting infrastructure - swimming, basketball, cricket, AFL, athletics etc and possibly Brisbane Arena.

The line "and will include the southern hemisphere’s largest sport centre of excellence" might be the key.

The thing will be bigger than Ben Hur if that's the case, but if it makes us the centre of the sporting world then bring it on.

It wouldn't be the worst thing to redevelop Nathan, Chandler, the Gabba and Boondal into housing...

This number is exactly double the entire Olympics budget and is grossly incorrect, not sure who your sauces are or who told you this wildly inaccurate number but the general public deserve to not have lies and misinformation spewed to them.
