The Courier Mail's editorial on the subject eviscerated her. Good stuff 👏
Not often I agree with the Courier Mail but...
The Editor: History tells us your ‘plan’ was a trainwreck Anna
Annastacia Palaszczuk’s deluded memory of her “plan” for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics is dumfounding, writes the editor.
The former premier this morning took to breakfast television to claim that “when I left, we had a plan” for the main stadium at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. But her memory of what happened is, at best, misleading.
In the interests of correcting the record, the week leading into her standing down as premier 13 months ago was actually dominated by the news that Ms Palaszczuk’s “plan” to rebuild the Gabba for the Games had been totally bungled.
Turns out, her “plan” was actually one of the straws that broke the camel’s back of her time as premier. Cricket, AFL and the Brisbane City Council were in open revolt, with even the usually mild-mannered star Usman Khawaja warning Ms Palaszczuk’s plan would send Queensland Cricket broke.
But Ms Palaszczuk and her sports minister Stirling Hinchliffe just kept making it worse, and front page after front page chronicled the mess as the week progressed.
Just eight days after she unveiled her “plan” for the main Games stadium, she resigned.
December 2, 2023: Ms Palaszczuk was feeling the heat leading up to her resignation.
December 5, 2023: Even Usman Khawaja was bemused by her plan.
Ms Palaszczuk’s venues “plan” had been to demand unilaterally that the AFL, cricket and the council stump up their own $87m to fund a new boutique stadium at the inner-city RNA showgrounds so they had somewhere to play in the decade the Gabba would be out of action for a rebuild (for $2.7bn, up from the $1bn she had previously promised).
And to rub salt in the wound, Ms Palaszczuk had told cricket and the AFL that any compensation for lost ticket revenue while the Gabba was out of action would only be loaned to them by the government – and they would have to pay it back.
December 4, 2023: The sports would have been out of pocket.
December 3, 2023: Adrian Schrinner wasn’t happy with where things were heading.
As we observed in this column at the time, it was like the government demolishing the building a local bakery operates from, and telling the owner they would not just need to suck it up in terms of lost revenue – but they would also stump up cash to help build their temporary shop.
We wrote: “It is just rude – and it certainly doesn’t pass the pub test. It also feeds the growing perception that this is a premier and a government that has lost touch; perhaps in some instances even with reality.”
Sadly, Ms Palaszczuk’s bizarre hubris today suggests she might not have yet reconnected with it.

Surely this is just political financial bookkeeping funny buggers, but Bleijie claiming that Palachook/Giggles governments has failed to budget ($3.5 billion) for the cost of building the Olympic Villages
They've been claiming a lot of absolute nonsense so that when it doesn't come to pass, they can say "look how good we were at cleaning up the mess!". Case in point, they're claiming Cross River Rail will take two years extra because the national regulator needs to conduct testing after construction is done, when this is bullshit and the regulator said as much. Testing in every other rail project is conducted by the build team during the construction process and after.

Yes, the Courier Mail usually dump on Labor as often as they can.
Sometimes they get it right though.

I am actually glad of this big delay that has occurred as long as a new stadium is built somewhere other than The Gabba.
The new stadium will have to be Public, Private, Partnership or there will not be enough funds. Thats been the problem all along.
The Gabba is still a great spot for a 42k stadium but i want the Lions to keep the Gabba as a home base until after the Olympics. Cricket obviously do also.

Testing is also factored in and at worst it adds a few weeks (Metro) to months (Parramatta light rail) delay depending on issues found.

If it’s decided already as pally says and it’s just a mud flingin exercise for 100 precious days that’s pretty poor

Every man and his dog trying to get on the Gravy Train

There kidding themselves.
It's all about elitism and lining their own wallets.
Oh wait it's an inspiration for the plebs.
How about getting more pools out there instead of a world standard elite training facility.
How about going and building the facility , maybe out of town, like the Lions had to, pfft. Piss off.
For what it's worth there is a large part of my sole that says the AFL and cricket should of put up the money for the exhibition ground refurb.
Too many leeches sucking off the greese .

Being an ex Olympic hopeful, I personally really love the idea of a Sporting Hub/Precinct for the Olympics and this all just ties in to the Arcadis Plan of Brisbane Bold.
Which after what Palaszczuk had to say yesterday might be on the cards.
I like it!

Tbh I'd be shocked if that idea goes ahead.
Massive backlash form a lot of the public I would expect.
A stadium is one thing but a precsinct for elite athletes , not quite sure how that one could happen in our economic enviroment.
Other than private enterprise taking a fair chunck.
Cause as we all know money talks.

Although I do remember the Brisbane Bold proposal being pretty widely regarded as a great idea.
But the idea of having the Athletes village as part of their proposal went a bit too far.
The 3 stadiums in the same place is a great idea for Brisbanes long term growth as a State imo and a great Legacy project.
Agreed, it doesn’t happen without Private funding.
