It’s an interesting point about the extra seats over 60k being the most expensive to build and cheapest selling. I’d never thought of it like that
Yes, that is why i highlighted that point
60k is enough. They could build it with some provisions so that it can be increased to 65K in the future

Where did you hear this?
I think it came from this poster on another Olympic site.
We will just have to wait till Tuesday 25th March for the Courier Mail/ Crisafulli lunch.

Also, the same day the Treasurer will deliver the 2025–26 Budget at approximately 7:30 pm (AEDT) on Tuesday 25 March.
Can we hope the federal government will add some funding as long as it is matched by the state.

Given all the media is going with Vic Park and some random poster on a website is going with the alternative, I'm sticking with the former.

Seems like someone just saw that C-M article or heard some of the same things. For any potential problems at Vic Park, there would be many more known at the Gabba.

These Vic Park leaks aren't happening by accident. All part of the big softening up.

Yeah, Tim Arvier is normally a pretty good journo with good connections. If Crisafulli & Bleijie are taking it to cabinet on Monday as reported, it's increasingly likely to be Vic Park. That was always going to be the final hurdle for a Vic Park stadium if the GIICA recommended it.

I also wouldn't be surprised if public servants have been unofficially told to feed BS to random people, to have people doubt the leaks a little. But I agree with Perrip that Arvier has a good reputation and probably corroborates his information with multiple sources.

IME, that’s pretty unlikely. Leaks are usually strategically-aimed at someone in the media. Pisspot online fora with limited reaches aren’t often on the radar for the level of person involved.

I trust The Flying Belgian, he leaks everywhere so knows the difference (and how to avoid getting on registers).

Perhaps so. FWIW a friend of a friend is privy to the report content, and everything they have told my friend on the subject has been prefaced with "if the media is to be believed", so reading between the lines, Arvier is correct.

Got no doubt leaks happen inadvertently. I'd just be surprised if any pollies would lower themselves to initiating a leak on a forum - from my experience most have a very dim view of the kind of social miscreants that frequent them. :moustache:

It is just the "original" plan rejected.

I have been against BA for a long time but i still think it will just move to above CRR site being a far better site.
Should cost way less on that site than the budgeted figure of $2.5 billion

Brisbane 2032 Olympics: Original arena plan rejected by Treasury | The Courier Mail

Summarise

ASM Global CEO Harvey Lister

Queensland Treasury rejected plans from the world’s largest venue manager to help build Brisbane Arena, which is now on the chopping block due to Olympic Games cost pressures.
The inner-city arena, first proposed in 2007, had by 2016 secured backing from a private consortium led by entertainment giant AEG, now ASM Global.
It had handed plans to the state government promoting the significant benefits of an inner-city arena and started investigating how it could help with capital costs.

Brisbane Arena cast into doubt over price tag

By Catherine Strohfeldt

The proposed $2.5 billion inner-city covered Olympic venue, the Brisbane Arena, has been cast into doubt over its price tag.

The 17,000-seat covered arena is proposed for Roma Street Parkland, and has been earmarked to host swimming and aquatic events with a drop-in pool.

Nine News reported the state government was reconsidering the venues looking to potentially redistribute funds across other projects for the Games.

The state government first raised doubts over the Brisbane Arena when it revealed that a Roma Street station upgrade might also be needed, costing an additional $500 million.

Australian Olympic Committee CEO Matt Carroll said to Nine this morning that the committee was looking forward to “getting on with the show” but could not reveal details on the Brisbane Arena’s future.

“Hopefully we may get a briefing before Tuesday, but at this point in time, we’re waiting to see the announcement on Tuesday morning in Brisbane,” Carroll said.

I wonder if GIICA ever considered the possibility of building the stadium at Allan Border Field. Little bit out of the city and a 1km walk from a train station, but it didn't go underwater in 1974, 2011 or 2022, and it avoids annoying a lot of people.

The racecourse opposite was the original stadium site in the bid plan, but it definitely floods.

Tbh AB Field wouldn’t be the worst place for it, I wouldn’t be too against it if that was the plan.

I think the issue probably comes from the fact that CA would say “you’ll pry the land from our cold dead hands”. Isn’t it also where the national cricket academy is?

These things can be relocated though. Actually, if they're going to knock down the BEC for Brisbane Arena, I wonder if cricket could move to Boondall. Plenty of space there.

I think housing with greenspace more likely but that's a while off.

Update on 9 News:
  • Brisbane LIVE scrapped. Government wants to build an aquatic centre instead.
  • Federal Government could prevent this plan proceeding because they want Brisbane LIVE built.
  • Tennis will be held at Tennyson, not Melbourne.

I wonder where their aquatic centre will be. Surely it'd be cheapest to just renovate Chandler. Transport would be an issue but maybe it would make the state government prioritise building bus lanes on Old Cleveland Rd.

that's what the towards the games podcast said, chandler upgrade with brisbane council to pay for the transport

The 9 article made it seem like it might be built somewhere else, Anika wells has been pretty definitive that Brisbane Live arena will be built lt
