Gaff - does he stay or go? Let me set the scene..

I know Gaff is a good player and obviously would prefer he stays with us next year but ultimately if he goes it gives someone else the chance to fill the spot. It's not as though he's a critical KP player. Yes, good mids are hard to come by but I'd like to think we can get someone else via trade or someone else on the list stands up.

if it was up to me, i would let wc keep him if matched as a form of calling double bluff. But NM on the other hand would trade 2019 1st round and perhaps a player. Hopefully trade Daniel Nielson or Taylor Garner. One is a very reliable fullback type player the other an can become an explosive de Goey type mid-forward....................if he is not injured.............all the time.
Haha. Who do you think you are trading with here? Gold Coast?

Is it just me, or did Gaff miss a golden opportunity on Sunday to cement his heel-turn by taking out Angus Brayshaw with a chairshot mid match?
And then first week of finals he can come out on to the oval during the third quarter of the first match with Gil McMahon who stops the game while Gaff grabs a can of spray paint and uses it to extend the goal square to 18 metres

Give him to cats, in return for Kelly
Cats board have already stated that they want Gaff plus a 1st round pick this year for T Kelly...anything less than that is a NO deal situation....They also mentioned that if Freo offered their 6th pick and Sean Darcy this year's draft would be a fair deal for T Kelly....
So a straight swap looks highly unlikely with all those BF Cats List Managers ;)

Well the cats are ****ing dreaming. He's a first player but not a rookie so the ceiling is pretty much where he is at now. They drafted one of the more obvious flight risks in history so they are just going to have to cop an all aust. midfielder in career best form as a suitable trade.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Gaff is a free agent, so no trade will be done... It will be a walk out? We will get an end of first round pick as compensation from the AFL.

End of first round for Kelly is probably under what Geelong would ask for.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news to Geelong fans but here is the reality.

Kelly was taken in the 20s. He has had an excellent year which has meant he is worth probably a pick in the 15-20 range.

Geelong can happily stand their ground and ask for ridiculous trades like a top 10 pick + a player. But if Tim Kelly is genuinely home sick, I think we will happily sit back and say keep him, and then take him for free at the end of 2019.

Safe to say we won't be paying ridiculous overs just to get a player a year early

Gaff won't make any contract announcement before the end of the home & away season. Not a good PR look for anyone to be signing a multimillion dollar deal while the guy he punched in the face is still too injured to play.

Though if he doesn't sign on during the finals he's gone.

Would love to keep, but he is our third most important mid behind Shuey and Yeo. I think the club recognises this.

Its a good thing the freo board are not a plan of the selection panel then :p

But Gaff is a ready made AA and is in brownlow form, in my view should just be a straight swap. But wouldn't care if had to throw in couple first round picks, Kelly would be great for us.

I don't really think it's a PR thing.

Unless he re-signs, he won't make an announcement until after WC have finished for the year.

You are, he's a restricted free agent.
Point taken, but another club would surely just offer higher than we could afford to pay gaff. That way they would avoid the need for a trade altogether when we fail to match their offer. We'd just have to live with the AFLs compensation pick.
