Note after the match Brown going up to Redpath to shake his hand with a very wry smile. Some respect there I think.

Anyone who watched Warner's debut at the G thought their dreams were being fulfilled, a park cricketer killing it at the G.

Redpath is similar, a country footballer coming from way back with many injuries but aggressive and playing like a scragger BUT he is showing that he is more than that.

He has many strings to his bow and his leading and running to space shows his football brains. At Ballarat, he was well clear on a few occasions but was ignored his team mates.

Hopefully he can play a 100 games and provide the fans with some great moments.

Redpath, Talia and Hamling have worked there way into the side as KPP.

Dickson was very impressive and copped some heat during the offseason but he looks fit and will be a key player going forward. Loving Honey in the middle also. Adds pace and isn't afraid to get stuck in. So excited for the year ahead.

don't know where to post this, but the little fella with the head gear...what he lacks in size he makes up for with everything else. Don't know how everyone else thinks about him but I thought he held his own against anyone
Caleb Daniel. Work rate and skills are A grade. IF he was 15cm taller he may have been a top 5 pick BUT his game is built around the fact he is short and has to prove himself every match.

I know this was not your point, and it is completely irrelevant, BUT.....

I was chatting the other day to someone who played with Warner in the NSW Schoolboys. He said that back then everyone knew that Warner was the most talented young batsman in Australia - that he treated attacks with contempt. My mate said he was the only batsman bowlers feared bowling to. But that his attitude was sh!thouse, which was why he ended up drifting for a few years. So while he may have once been sold as a park cricketer having a go - in reality the powers that be were paying careful attention to him since he was a young boy.

Just thought I'd share because it was news to me.

Anyone else - old enough to remember - see Ayce as a mix of Bones McGhie and Paul Salmon?

Man he's come a long way. Let's hope the improvement continues.

Paul Salmon was well on his way to a ton as a 19 year old.

Young Ayce has a long long way to go to match Big Fish's skill level. I do understand your point around mobility, though - Salmon could mark anything kicked anywhere near him.

While we obviously went away from the flat out run and gun a bit in the 3rd quarter, I loved when we went down the line in one passage from Hamling to Macrae. Macrae then, with no options inboard goes long to the pack and Cordy comes over the top, plays on quickly and Boyd outmarks Nathan Brown.

Just little things but good fines that finally we have some talls that can compete!

Makes all the difference.

This is true. He wasn't the nobody that people would have you believe.

A few thoughts, and I know that they have mostly been covered, but as I'm house-sitting and had an engagement party on the day, I haven't been able to watch the replay until now.

So, here we go:

One of our best games last year was coincidently against Collingwood. What was good about it? Defensive trust. Our players went to the ball carrier, trusting that their player would be picked up by a team mate. This creates pressure and turn overs. It happened in this match, and I hope it wasn't just a one off/against Collingwood thing, and it will be a hallmark of "The Drink"'s game plan.

Jack Repath: Been a big fan - two knee recos and coming from a long way back. I have always been a fan, and I hope he goes on with it from here. If his pre-season and last years VFL form is anything to go on, WOO!

Lin Jong: Since his first pre-season where in an intraclub he smashed into Boyd (Moyd), leapt up, beat Boyd to the ball and scrambled the ball forward - I've been telling all who will listen what was coming. I hope he builds from here, because I have some massive "I told you so"'s to claim.

He who shall not be named: Yes yes, we all have our opinions, but his mantra of win the contest and smash in hard supplements The Drink's ability to construct a game plan. Despite contrary opinion, I think he has left us in good stead.

Caleb Daniel: Like Honeychurch, think that we can "carry" him, as the Bont (messiah) and Macrae (eerily nondescript but damaging) offset their "weaknesses"

Having said that, I still think there is a place for Hroavt.

I'm a glass is half full kinda guy, and I am bullish (excuse the pun) about our future. I still think there is some pain on the way, as we won't have things all our own way during the season proper, but I think we can challenge with this list in a few years.

And while I have your attention: I know it is a super long bow, but who was the face of the VFL team last year? Lin Jong. A speculative player with a veritable crap load of upside. Who is the face of the VFL team this year? Fletcher Roberts. Well.....here is to hoping, because I think his potential is massive.

Finally, I am SUPER enticed by what Clay Smith WILL bring to the team when he is back, and I am backing Prudden to live up to the pressure of the Church..

Long year - Bright Future - I'll be there for the team - Will you?

(Oh, and I thought that the commentary was fairy positive for us during the game. Something which I have rarely ever said)

Finally saw the replay. Won't repeat good reports above. Everyone played well.

Who was the Fine Cotton ring-in in Grant's jumper? Totally different player - did some of the hardest stuff on the field. Very impressive.

Ditto Honeychurch.

And Redpath put in the best tall forward performance in a Dogs jumper I've seen for a while. Even popped up in defence.

Daniel is going to be fun to watch in the coming years. Like the way he backs himself and mostly it comes off.

That's the Jarrad Grant who likes to trick us every contract year to get a new 2 year deal ;)

1st chance to have a proper look at the game. Couple of quick thoughts:

1. Jong has to work on his hands. Still fumbles way too much. And he's not the guy we want with the ball on the fast break. Decision making still a work in progress.

2. Important that the zoning guys in defence (wood, murph, Talia etc) communicate. A couple of times we had two on ones and players spoiled each other or both players went up and we had no advantage when the ball hit the deck.

3. Delivery inside 50 still needs a heap of work.

4. We bought afl regular season intensity and the pies bought pre-season intensity.

5. Grants quality hands will be important for us. In a side that lacks quality and one touch players, he gives us that, provided his intensity remains.

Great aggression and effort by the guys though. Lots to work on which we already knew of course, but the method and intensity are there which is all we can ask.

I've watched the game three times now. Jack Redpaths' elite dinky left footers are premium for a hulking KP with no mobility...

What's with the Dees symbol next to our score?
Fox Footy's new team indicator. They're ****ing woeful. Tri-coloured teams have two colours and most of the teams look similar. Really, really bad. Last year's were brilliant and simple, I don't know why they had to triangulate them.

Just got around to watching the game myself and while you're right about the pies intesity I think our intensity was the best I have seen it for months.

It will be interesting to see if we can maintain it through a long season.

Never thought I would see Jarrad Grant play like that.

Tom Boyd looked puffed every time I saw him but kept putting in.

His forward pressure directly lead to 2 or 3 goals.
