Game of the Year - 2024

The gather round St Kilda v Richmond game was arguably a worse match.

Funny, because we were out and about in Adelaide that day then watched the second half replay of this one when we got home.

High scoring and rather entertaining second half. But gees, that first half must have been as bad as it gets considering the nominations it's getting.

These days, I assume any St Kilda game at Docklands is automatically disqualified. Otherwise, for worst game may I resurrect the trauma of watching:
Round 14, 2024
STK 3.1 4.5 6.7 7.9 (51)
G.C 1.1 2.3 5.5 7.6 (48)

That's right. A team can kick 4 goals in three quarters in pristine conditions and still win. *&(( Ross Lyon.

A completely forgotten gem from this season (ignore my bias).

Dockers were third. We were still hunting a way into the top 8.

A complete arm wrestle with momentum swings aplenty.

The anomaly of the game being that only 9 players on the day had over 20 disposals, with the most being James Worpel with 24.

Almost identical in most major categories.

The contest was finished off with Nick Watson's memorable goal from the boundary line. From that moment on he barely missed in front of goal.

The ones that come to mind for me:

Essendon v Adelaide R19
Carlton v St Kilda R24
GWS v Brisbane SF
Brisbane v Geelong PF

One of the worst this season was the St Kilda v Richmond game in Gather Round. I think it was at Norwood. Truly dire football.
LAte to the party, I agree with the Saints-Richmond game, but I also loved it being on the Parade. Epic experience.

Worst game for mine was Melbourne-Geelong. It was pathetic footy, so poor. Tight finish but that 2nd quarter was one of the most painful watching experiences I've had at a football game.

God that was awful

For me, as a Hawks supporter.. Round 10 - Port v. Hawks.. We werre literally pipped at the post.. but the Hawks matured very quickly...

As a game, for the Power, it was a comeback against the odds.. But for the Hawks, it was the turning point.

The best games of footy are high scoring nail biters IMO.

Therefore North V Collingwood probably wins home and away game of the year.

The Geelong V Brisbane prelim was the overall best game of the year.
