Never watched the show; but thought this may have been of interest:

The Night’s Watch — Brisbane

Guarding the wall and charged with keeping Gold Coast from being the best team in Queensland, is Brisbane, the true champions of the North. They’ve proven their worth with their incredible premiership run in 2001-03, but are being seriously challenged by those pesky Wildlings, current QCup holders, the Suns.

Very poorly directed episode as well.

I've only just starting watching GoT recently and have caught up and my main criticism of the show is directing and music, especially in the first 2 seasons. Also with all the different stories they pack a lot of into each episode and can't build much tension.

Definitely addictive with all the twists though.

I thought the Hound and Arya scene was the highlight, again. Hopefully the episodes can be a little less rapid for a while now that the Craster's Keep stuff is done. Of course the preview for next week showing that it will be a Ramsay Snow/Bolton episode means there will likely be some uncomfortable brutality otherwise.

Fixed what I assume was an unfortunate typo for you.

I think the show has gone to shit this season. Poor direction. Poor script. Divergence from the books. I'm close to tuning out.

Yeah, that's a somewhat more blunt description of what I think.

I couldn't care less about divergence from the books. In fact I'm all in favour of divergence from the books. But the writing and direction have gone backwards, and considering the amount of money thrown at it by HBO some of the production values are a bit disappointing. I guess the nature of the show really stretches even a generous budget to the limit.

I wouldn't mind divergence from the books if it was well done. That hasn't been the case.

I thought this season had been excellent. I haven't read the books though. The directing of the last episode in particular was poor.

I lost interest in the TV series. I'm not trying to espouse "the book is better than the movie/show" view (but it is!). I just found that there were no surprises which, for a plot which is based so much on intrigue and unexpected twists, takes away from the enjoyment.

I also got the shits with my wife asking every two minutes "who is that guy? Where does he fit in? Why did he kill that other guy? Who is that other guy?!!!"

That's part of why I held off reading the books.

Not that I read many fantasy books anyway.

I read the books after the TV series (and the hype) started but before I saw an episode. I read the whole series before watching the TV show.

I think that it could be just as bad going from TV series first. The books are pretty well written (although, like you, it is not my preferred genre) but the best bit is the "holy shit" moments of a plot twist. If you lose that, then I'd imagine it might become a bit of a heavy read.

The books are great, changed modern fantasy writing completely. As an avid fantasy reader, it's amazing to see the difference in what's being written now vs what was out there prior to ASOIAF blowing up.

I can understand why it might be a bit difficult for someone who doesn't read much fantasy- the books are quite long. Although, they've got nothing on some series. HBO should do the Wheel of Time, it would only go for about 20 seasons.
