Gameday: Essendon vs Geelong

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Why is Lonergan in our team and in the forward line? Cant kick for goal and we need goal kickers. He is tough player and has some good qualities but is he in our best 22 or 25?

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Disappointing negativity on this thread.
I had no issue with the umps tonight. (Unlike last week)
Also no long term concerns with the result. We were poor. A couple of our players are not up to it but on the other hand Hurley played his best game for the year and Davey was good again.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Umpiring hasn't been that bad. No McLaren/McBurney may have something to do with that.

Agree with comments on Dyson, Slattery, Welsh - time to go and hope they don't play for the rest of the year. How can they get games when we have Howlett, Atkinson, Houli, Reimers, Marigliani (yes, we can elevate him now!) all playing in the 2nds? Not particularly concerned with Winderlich's game, he's an outside receiver and when we can't win the clearances of course he won't get any of it.

Having Monfries and Hille out has seriously hurt us. Bellchambers is no substitute for Hille and it seems like we're robbing our midfield to replace Monfries in the forward line.

Also, Myers has shown so much in the midfield, so why play him as a defender? Do you seriously think Henry Playfair is such a huge scalp that all of a sudden he should play that position every week?

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Exposed again by the best side in the league.

It's all about their engine room. It just keeps ticking over and providing opportunities for their second tier players. I thought we'd give it a shake considering they looked buggered last week and were coming back from Perth.

Can't be too harsh on the defence as they were under constant pressure. 2 weeks in a row we've conceded 62 inside 50's.

Our forward line looked ok when we could get it in. Just couldn't do it enough. Our midfield needs to get better and unless we find serious improvement from the kids or trade/draft a gem it might hold us back from getting back into the top 4.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Living in Adelaide I had the choice of

1. Going to Footy park to watch Port V Sydney
2. Watching on foxtel, Port V Sydney
3. Watching on Channel 10, Port V Sydney

So can anyone tell me how Slattery and Dyson went tonight?

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Well then you're old enough to know that bringing your age into it just sounds silly mate.
We are young, they are experienced and hard bodied, they beat us down until we had nothing, I don't blame us, we just have to get on with the next few weeks, the next 5 should all be won, and I have a feeling we will.

How long can we use the too young excuse.

Geelong's so called hard old bodies coming back from Perth should have been exposed tonight.

I hope your feelings right bear. We are better than this.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Because we beat both those sides already this year and he wouldn't have been saying how much better Hawthorn are than us two weeks ago.

When did I say that?

I said Hawthorn and Carlton will finish higher when I believe we are the better team.

That's not good enough.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Another typical arrogant geelong supporter, enjoy your win and try not to be so smug. Its not the free kicks they pay its the obvious ones they miss and you seem to get the advantage of that. Go back to your own board.

No I don't think so. Please point out the glaring missed frees that cost you the game? There weren't any. You are displaying arrogance by refusing to admit that the game was lost by your team and putting it all on the umpires. There's nothing arrogant about me pointing that out to you, and nothing arrogant about my expectations of Geelong since leading into the game I was expecting the result to be reversed.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

I dont want to coach bash knights, but he did not coach that game very well at all. The selction committee and himself brought in players that are not up to it (slattery and dyson and last week welsh) and dropped players like atkinson and howlett that have a go. We really missed hille and monfries but they wouldnt have made much difference. This geelong team loves bullying essendon and no essendon player stands up and gives it back (fairly). Coincidence that we have lost 2 in a row when slattery dyson and welsh have been back in the team and were playing so well with out them..ok sorry thats a bit rough but a little true?

Poor skills tonight but hopefully we learn something (thats what people say after a thumping right?), dempsey HAS to play tighter its laughable sometimes. Maybe the calls on margiliani are right lets bring him in against hawthorn and reimers, sorry sammy lonergan but we need goal kickers. Loved hurley and daveys games and jetta tried. Someone needs to teach gumby to kick properly for goal then he will be unstoppable.

Ok rant over... bad game always next week against the scum, time to lift again.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

You guys may have lost by 71 points but....at least you had Lloyd commentating so you got to listen to senseless dribble about what a great chance Essendon were all night. Took him until about the halfway mark of the 4th to realise his side was getting smashed.

Always makes me laugh. How many times have Essendon hyped themselves up as being close to us only to get smashed? Yeah, you came close in round 1. Obviously you didn't realise our early season form was very poor.

Slattery was the right call considering we had stokes, varcoe, byrnes and Johnson to deal with.

Less so Dyson who after showing improvement last year has gone backwards imo.

Coaching.....or people (including myself) over rating our list....

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

So can anyone tell me how Slattery and Dyson went tonight?

17 touches between them, most of them turnovers or Dyson blazing away to no one in particular. Slattery showing no defensive qualities whatsoever. Neithr had any impact on the game. Drop them... literally... down a hole somewhere.

It's all on a plate for you guys this year. Or so it seems.

Your only threat is Collingwood.

And as much as I hate the thought, your injuries are a concern and I can see another stumble at the finish line awaiting.

Who played on Ablett for the last 3 quarters?

I'll give you a hint. It wasn't Welsh.

Understood. But we dropped a guy like atkinson who has been doing a good job and appeared to have found a nice balance between attack and defense and has speed and his disposal has improved and we drop him for slattery who is so slow and is shocking by foot, i think i see a smile on an oppositions face when slattery goes to them.

Re: GameDay Thread v Cats

Pods is some kind of phenomenon eh? Just kicked 5 goals on THE GREATEST FULL BACK OF ALL TIME with a sore groin and ankle. Scarlett? Silvagni? Pfft, Fletcher is the man.

His goals were split between Fletch and Pears. Not much either could do with the ball coming down there with regularity. I guess you wouldn't have known that seeing your footy knowledge is pretty limited.

You tried to make a point though.. a stupid one but kudos for having the balls to come on here and look like a fool.

5 goals. He should be kicking ten with a midfield of Ablett, Bartel and Selwood.

Even Scarlett would have given away 6.

Fletcher is the man. :thumbsu:

HA, i pity you if thats the sorta thing you get a thrill out of. Must be a simple life down there in Geelong. Get out much?

Oh well unless you choke again you should win your last premiership this year before little garry is feeding the ball to karmichael on the gold coast next year and pods body falls apart, least you will still have selwood and johnson diving everywhere for soft free kicks.
