He had one where the ball went over the top and he got a decent mark but that goal was a cheapie. The other was due to a free kick. He also had the opportunity to kick the winning goal with a free where he would have kicked from 53-54 straight in front but it looked to me like he pulled the kick to the top of the square instead of going the shot. (there was a slight breeze against him but it definitely looked to me as though he pulled the kick rather than not being able to make the distance)

Regarding Stevens' shot on goal late in the game that would've put West Coast beck in front, the call on the radio said he got too close to the man on the mark. I don't know if you noticed that at the game or not. That's a possibility that could account for the pulling of the kick.

TBH i had a side on view of it and it didnt really look as though he was too close to the man on the mark it looked as though he was going to go for the long shot and changed him mind at almost the last instant.

The umpiring in the game left a fair bit to be desired tbh. They really gave port a massive chance to win the game towards the end with quite a few iffy decisions and even then our two free kick at the end one of which we ended up getting the goal from both were questionable. They were both there but they hadnt be paying them as free kicks for us for almost the whole day.

Played below what he'll play during the season but a lot of guys did.

Priddis' clearance ability was as good as always though.

His first hands where ok, but he generally was dishing out 2-5m handballs to guys who simply did more.

Kerr, Masten, Swift and S.Selwood(later) where all more effective around the stoppages I thought.

I see a few weren't to happy with Swift, but at least he hand passed to guys 10-15m off the sides of packs and was able to take some physical pressure.

Be interesting to see if Scooter is used more offensively this year. Port rested all their quality mids so it is hard to figure it out on that performance alone.

Ive been waiting all day to see the replay and so far its been a very disappointing day
Every other match replay is up goddamn it!

You sure? I cant see any of the other regional games up (ie Bris v Adel, Syd v Nth). Dont think any of them were covered by Fox and therefore will not be put on AFL website. The cameras that were there would have been for the clubs.

if those are swifts stats just remember he had 4 kicks and 13 handballs.

Sounds about right for an inside mid.

Cameras that were there was for local news snippets, that was all.

just going through the stats vs port

82% de
2 clangers

given these 2 key stats were his biggest weakness last year. So far so good :thumbsu::thumbsu:

i thought swift was good but better last week . A lot of good kicks last week . I get sick of the commentators . They always single him out even when others are a lot worse. I think he is really improving. Now he has to take the next step like masto has done. It is all about confidence with him and once he plays more he will get it. Masto has arrived , some others are just born cocky and it makes it easier.

In 2010, it was a common (and largely correct) criticism of our team that footskills were a major weakness. Last year our footskills improved dramatically. Swift's development is behind Scooter, Masten and Shuey, but it won't surprise me if he makes a similar leap in the next year or two.

Havn't had a chance to watch it yet, but there are 11 minutes of highlights on the Port Website now - not sure if its Eagles and Port yet, but you guys may be interested either way.

Yeah, still think they are posting it on the main bit, but yeah its on the right hand side.

Not a heap of WCE Highlights, its 95% Port, but has your winning goal at the least!

Thanks for the highlights.

Some observations, maybe people who attended can confirm.

- we looked to be only going half-paced at times, not much pressure. Just a preseason game nobody wanting to get injured.
- Dean cox wasn't really trying in most of those hit-outs
- Gaff is too weak to bring a player down with a tackle

That goal by Logan(?) was sweet.

Yeah Gaff does need some size/strength but its just going to take some time, will be used almost entirely on the outside during the season.

I agree from that limited footage at least it didn't look too intense. Makes it hard to really take much out of the game, boys are just building up their fitness getting ready for the real thing. Should get a much better look at the team next week. Can't wait for Naitanui to be back.

Also Butcher's goal were a bit less impressive than I had imagined.

I havent seen the highights package but dont make too much of a missed tackle or 2. He actually made some strong tackles that I did not expect him to stick so it wasnt all bad.

It was really quite hot and draining so I think both sides were pretty buggered given it was so early in the year - which is probably why it looks like less pressure.
